Elevated Miso Soup (@miguelmoralesphotography on Instagram)

Stopped by here for some miso soup, but we were surprised to see there was an Elevated Miso Soup, which my vegan friend and I really enjoyed - would love to revisit and try more items since they have a cozy dining area outside, but otherwise staff and service were incredible for my last visit there! - Miguel Morales Photography

Stumbled across this while shopping in Makawao. It was a Monday, so they only have poke and drinks on Mondays. The poke was excellent. Incredibly fresh, good flavor in the dressing, and I liked that it came with a kale / veggie salad as well. The trio of poke was also good, and that way you get to try all of the flavors at once. I enjoyed the spicy pineapple flavor as well. It's a food truck that's stationary in this little courtyard, so you walk up and order and then grab a seat. Al fresco dining at picnic tables under a beautiful tree. They'll call you when your order was ready. The worker was chill.

This is your spot for a delicious, locally and organically sourced, and reasonably priced lunch in Makawao town! Described as farm to table sushi fusion, Satori delivers on freshness, quality ingredients, visual appeal, value for money, and flavor. There's a tempting array of hand rolls, bowls, starters, and desserts, as well as beverage options including Maui Kombucha on tap. The outdoor courtyard is the perfect spot to savor your meal while enjoying a gentle breeze. I had one of the day's specials, the poke bowl with kajiki (blue marlin), pineapple, jalapeño, daikon, togarashi aioli, and a small kale, carrot, and red cabbage salad. It was as delicious as it looked (pic). My friend had the 'roots on fire' vegan hand roll and gave it top ratings as well. This will definitely be one of my regular stops.

So cute!!!!! Farm to today but sushi Employee (owner?) was so kind and friendly. The outdoor seating and permanent food truck vibe was fun and different. Each of the menu items has it's own fun spin to a traditional concept by how the chef adds flavors and ingredients. I loved the creativity! Personally I wasn't used to the fish I ordered and I think that's on me for just not loving it but also wasn't expecting kale in my sushi bowl. It kinda through me off but still overall really good and would totally go back to try more!

A small food truck serving some delicious sushi tucked in a nook on the lanes of Makawao's main street with just the sweetest chef. He was the only one doing all the work from taking the order to cooking and he was still so patient and smiling throughout. I was eager to try it as they claim to be a farm to table sushi spot. The hand rolls were delicious and the favorite of all the ones we tried was the Unagi hand roll. Also , tried the satori sushi bowl and it was pretty good too. They have a nice ambiance going on and it feels less like a food truck and more like an outdoor restaurant.

The answer to your question is YES, go here for lunch! You will not be disappointed and your stomach will thank you We ordered a Satori Sushi Bowl, a Shaman Bowl with added shrimp, and a Shaman Bowl plain. We also got a few delicious drinks, the gingerade and root beer. Wow talk about presentation and flavor! While the menu is a bit vague, the presentation of our bowls did not disappoint. They were beautifully put together and instantly appetizing. The a sauces and spices and furikake all melded so wonderfully together on the vegetables and rice. Make sure to stir everything together for an even better biteful We loved sitting in the quiet outdoor space. The ambiance is honestly whatever the street is currently, and we lucked out that most of the shoppers had moved further down the street. We loved eating out rustic food at the rustic picnic tables, listening to the roosters crowing.

This is a very good sushi bar... They feature inventive hand-rolls all made with super fresh locally sourced ingredients. We had three rolls... spicy tuna, smoked marlin and shrimp and scallop. Our hand-rolls were made by Ericka she has mad sushi skills and made us delicious plump hand-rolls. She is also super friendly and made delicious suggestions. Overall, this is a great choice for any sushi lover. They have a unique approach to their sushi that is thoroughly enjoyable. Double highly recommend!

Perfect for a light snack in Makawao. After seeing the lush scenery accompanied by chickens and dogs, we couldn't ignore their adorable outdoor food cart setup. Satori sits in its own mini courtyard between the brick-and-mortar shops, along with its own seating area. The staff are quick and friendly, quite knowledgeable about local seafood. LILIKOI SPICY TUNA: Can never go wrong with ahi on the island~ Everything is ever so fresh and crisp. Comes with soy sauce and wasabi. The lilikoi mac nut aioli is its own unique sweet-sour sauce, very worth a try. Pretty big for temaki. We arrived midday on a weekday and had no issue with items being out of stock.

I'm with Shelly on this one. I came here because of the solid reviews online and it's convenience to my accommodation. However, I was really disappointed. Although I appreciate the ideology behind this concept, it just really was a let down that wasn't going to break anything but my bank account for what it was worth. The highlights were the sushi rice and the seaweed. The ingredients were fresh, but put together, it seemed like I would have been better off making these back in my own kitchen. The ramen didn't have a strong enough dashi or miso flavor. I honestly couldn't tell you what the broth was supposed to be. The macadamia nuts also added an unwanted texture to a small cup. It wasn't for me, but maybe it will be later.

Very cute spot in Makawao. This is an outdoor food cart with oudoor seating. I stopped by for lunch and their hand rolls are delicious!

We stumbled upon this spot and the server/cook was nice and accommodating. We ordered hand rolls, bowls, and ramen. We loved it all. The poke was fresh and the outdoor seating was windy and delightful. A great spot for fresh food.

We live on the other side of the island and while we have an excellent Japanese restaurant (Takumi…read more- try the omakase) we decided to drive over to experience Nuka as it has so many fantastic reviews, and we really appreciate and enjoy Japanese cuisine. Nuka was exceptional. Authentically Japanese, the restaurant is beautifully yet serenely decorated, the staff are welcoming and well versed in the menu and flavors, and pricing is competitive for island restaurants. In fact when you know the healthy ingredients are the best available, locally grown/caught/raised and cooked to perfection it takes it up a notch. We arrived just as they opened for lunch at 11.30am and luckily managed to be seated straight away. I've read that dinner is much harder to get a table and there is a long wait so arrive accordingly ;) Parking is available in the car park next door beside the gym, free and self parking. So, what did we order?......... Grapefruit lychee spritzer - we chose the mocktail version but you can make it a cocktail too. Sooo citrusy and thirst quenching. Not sweet, zingy. Very refreshing on a hot Maui day Miso - earthy, salty, brothy, umami, steaming hot in a bowl to start off your extravaganza of a meal Shio koji cabbage - finely shredded with sesame and house milled bran and seasoning, like an elegant Japanese coleslaw, I loved it! Nasu Miso eggplant - slightly sweet because of the miso, I liked the taste but it wasn't a texture I'm used to eating, which I found a lot in Japan, eg mochi. But I can't fault the dish because of that, the miso umami was richly broiled and it was a popular dish House Nuka pickles - crunchy, fresh and sprinkled with sesame (daikon radish, carrot and cucumber), a good palate cleanser and a nice texture to complement the eggplant above. Not vinegary, just fresh Saba Nigiri - two pieces of moreish mackerel sushi, melt in the mouth with so much flavor, decent sized nigiri too Shiso Country sushi roll - on the specials list, and it was amazingly special! Ahi, habanero masago, orange masago, shaved shiso leaf, ponzu, so many flavours and textures combined into a party in the mouth, with a slight heat build as you ate it. A favourite Miso Butterfish - OMG it looked so amazing and was another popular dish, for a good reason, it is delicious. Melt in the mouth, flaky, savory cod, a nice sized serving, and the miso sauce is sooo good with the buttery fish Lilikoi ice cream - hubby only had room for one generous creamy scoop served with chocolate wafers and decorated with fresh mint. Perfect end to a delightful meal We both felt that this is definitely one of the best restaurants on island, culturally and gastronomically, pricewise and food presentation, authenticity and awareness of local produce....it all adds up to an outstanding dining experience. We will most definitely be returning even though we have to drive an hour and half to get there! "Gochisousama deshita"

As most reviews state, Nuka had a LONG wait time and a line when we arrived even though we came fairly late that I thought most people wouldn't be out eating at that time anymore. However, once we got seated, our order was taken very quickly and the food also came out very fast! We took our server's recommendations on what to order and tried one of the specials they were offering that night, the sushi platter, and a specialty roll. I felt quantity could've been better for the price, but then again, I don't know what to expect for sushi prices in Hawaii. The quality was good though and fish tasted fresh. We enjoyed all our dishes, and I wish we would've ordered more because I didn't feel we had enough food once everything came out. I definitely can see Nuka being a local favorite though and am glad we tried it!

Unfortunately, there were no oysters. It was actually a bit tough to find a place with oysters in Maui (shoutout to Fleetwood's). It was perfect because we ended up just wanting a light dinner, and this restaurant has tapas and small portions. Not a bang for your buck, by any means, though. I was a bit bummed because I wanted a specific appetizer (similar to a wagyu beef tataki), but they did not have it. Instead, I got the hamachi carpaccio, which was still good. I also ordered a spicy rainbow roll. You could tell that the fish was very fresh on top, but the roll itself was just decent. Not worth the $25 and it was also not spicy. I think my favorite food item was the karaage. It was crispy, tender and the sauce was the cherry on top. I am looking at the menu and I realize that a lot of these cocktails are new, which is another bummer because I would have loved to try all of them (guava mojito, spicy lilikoi mezcalita and vana colada -- yes please!) The restaurant itself is so cute! There is definitely a rustic vibe to it. It could look like a treehouse because there's a big tree in the middle and string lights. It is an outdoor restaurant, and there is an extended outdoor section as well that has a little more secluded feel. There's a bar area, but it is a bit small.
