They've been a mainstaple in the Maui community for a long time - I first remember trying them at the Kula Country Farms almost a decade ago, and I catch them weekly at the Maui Sunday Market - their plate lunches are extremely jam-packed with local flavors and a must for those wanting to try some of Maui's local cuisine - Miguel Morales Photography

So happy to see this truck at the MADE IN MAUI County Festival. They had the longest line to get food... because we all know their food is delicious! Always freshly cooked, so we have to wait while they cook. So worth the wait! The steak is so tender and juicy and the chicken flavor is so onolicious! Mahalo AL for being here... and see you on KIHEI 4TH FRIDAY!

Best food i had on Maui. The ribs fell right off the bone. The mochi brownies were phenomenal! I cannot describe the texture but it was unreal. I wish i was going back to that part of the island just so i could have it again!

Some of the absolute best bbq that I've had on the island. I came while looking for a good place to eat since living in pukalani. I didnt see ribs in the pics online so I was pleasantly surprised when I came to the truck and they had ribs. I order ribs with garlic noodles. My friend ordered the chicken and steak combo with rice. We both loved our food. The meat with tender but still had a good flavor from the grill. My ribs were falling off the bone. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back.

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife. We were at the upcountry farmers market and happened to see a food truck cluster. So after looking around the farmers market we headed on over for some lunch. After perusing all of the menus, we ultimately decided on Al's BBQ Pit. Since it's a food truck, there's not too much to say about it other than it had photos of many of the food items on the side of the truck and there were two windows, 1 for ordering and 1 for pickup. On this day my wife and I decided to go big and split it and so we went with the big Al combo. It was maybe a 5-10 minute wait from ordering until we had our food. The big Al's combo was some teriyaki chicken, 3 shrimp and some steak, all on a giant bed of Adobe rice. If it sounds like a lot of food, you would be correct and it was heavy too! Once we got back to our place, my wife and I dug in. It ended up being quite good! The chicken was moist and had a nice flavor to it while the shrimp were nice and sweet. The steak was cooked to a nice medium and had a great grill flavor to it. Finally the Adobe rice was awesome with pieces of pork in it and peppercorns which gave a nice little spice when bitten. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed everything that we got and the big Als combo was a ton of food!

I was at the Makawao Third Friday event and decided to finally try out Al's BBQ Pit. There wasn't too much of a line and after quickly perusing their small menu, I went with the marinated steak & garlic shrimp combo. Wasn't sure what the steak was marinated in, but why not? I love steak. After ordering, they give you a ticket with your number on it. Big sign says "No stub, no food!" Alrighty then. Remember to keep your ticket stub to pick-up your order, folks. Otherwise, you'll be SOL. Got my food within maybe 10 minutes or so, not too long of a wait at all which was awesome since I was really hungry! I dug into my garlic shrimp and the garlic needed to be cooked more. No one really likes the taste of raw garlic.. at least not me. The shrimp itself tasted like it was cooked beforehand as well and not fresh. Overall, just ok. The steak was marinated in teriyaki sauce which I wasn't really expecting. While the teriyaki flavor was not too bad, most of the meat was not cut against the grain making it very chewy and harder to break up the muscle fibers.. Had they cut against the grain, it would've been much more tender and easier to chew. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about teriyaki beef with such a thick cut of meat. Not my thing. Overall, it was just ok for me. I didn't see any specials that night, but their standard menu doesn't have anything really unique. I don't think I'll be in a hurry to try them again since they offer the standard plate lunches that you could find at other food establishments.

If you want to get full off of a one plate meal, this place is it. Flavorful. Tender. Cooked to perfection. Fried Rice? Cmon. I got a combo with shrimp, chicken, and steak. This is it. I could feed my entire family with this plate. It's that good. Only bad thing if you order here, you're not gonna have room to eat anything else in the food truck park.

Al's BBQ Pit has a menu that made my dinner decision really difficult. Everything looks so ono. I decided to try the Adobo Fried Rice with Chicken and it was great! The fried rice was tasty & plentiful and the chicken was perfectly prepared with a dash of Al's barbeque sauce. I could have gone for a little more sauce, but I was more than satisfied. One of the benefits of food truck cuisine is taking it to Heritage Park and enjoying a well made meal in a picturesque setting. I'll be back to try more of Al's cooking.

Best consistent bbq on Maui. Ribs & shrimp are favorites, but all equally good. $1 Mac salad scoops are also best on Maui.

This restaurant is located in a shopping center in Pukalani. The inside has a place to order along with a cooler and a display case full of baked goods. There is seating throughout the rest of the space with five four tops and bar seating for about seven more. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the loco moco while my dad went with the Big Kahuna. The menu described mine as three hamburger patties smothered with house made brown gravy and topped with two eggs, and my dad's as a combo plate of mochiko chicken, hamburger steak, and Asian crusted ono. After placing our order they quoted us 15 to 20 minutes, so we sat at an empty table and waited. It only took about 10 minutes before our food was ready and we sat down to eat. As soon as my dad opened his meal I have to admit that I was jealous as it looked great. Thankfully my meal was absolutely amazing. The brown gravy was legit with a ton of flavor and I could not stop eating it. The burger patties were hot and seasoned well. The mac salad was also really good. My only complaint would be that the rice was a little sticky and made it hard to get everything out of the container. I was also able to try some of my dad's mochiko chicken and the breading had great flavor while the chicken inside was moist and juicy. My dad enjoyed everything on his plate as well, especially the ono. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. As a matter of fact, the next time my wife is on Maui with me this will be one of our first stops because that gravy was fantastic.

But everyone was there. They were behind a wall lol. Inside was clean and AC was cold. The staff was very nice and took our orders promptly. We ordered the crispy pork belly special and a breaded ono sandwich. My husband didn't care for the fish sandwich. He said the fish was bland and he didn't like the lettuce. After dissecting the sandwich, he ended up adding a little shoyu and thought it tasted better. The CPB was great. It comes with Mac salad, pickled onions, cherry tomatoes and a vinegar dipping sauce. I loved it. The only thing I'd change would be the size of the pieces of pork. Would be better if it was smaller (so it can fit in the sauce container). The portion was good for $19

We arrived a little early for our reservation at a table in the back room, but were seated immediately and our server, Rocco, greeted us pretty quickly to take our orders. He was polite and attentive all through the appetizers and main course. We ordered the ceviche and mochiko ahi bites to start and Bangers and mash (substitute rice) and Kalo burger with regular fries for entrees. We opted for non-alcoholic drinks since I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and my husband can't drink. Everything was made to perfection and we were very pleased. Then we ordered dessert and the experience changed. We decided on the yuzu cheesecake and the chocolate torte with a scoop of ice cream. Then we waited and waited and waited. After about 1/2 hour of watching our server go from table to table, we flagged down the hostess and let her know our situation and asked for the desserts to go and the check. About 5 minutes later, Rocco shows up with our desserts on plates, without the check or an acknowledgement of the time we waited. It was such an unfortunate way to end an otherwise lovely evening together. At the very least, we could have gotten an apology. At the best, comping the desserts would have left a better taste in our mouths. We may or may not return next year for our anniversary celebration.

After looking over the menu I ultimately decided on one of their specials, a cherry vanilla latte, which I don't think I have seen before in a coffee. After only a couple of minute wait, I had my latte and was out the door. My coffee here ended up tasting really good, almost like a cherry vanilla ice cream. The cherry flavor came first and that was followed by the sweet vanilla. While I know the coffee was there, it got lost a bit with the cherry vanilla flavoring. Still, I enjoyed it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. A cherry vanilla latte is a new combo for me, but I enjoyed it and only wish the espresso was a bit more pronounced.
