I've been very slowly and unintentionally chewing my way through The Stranger's 15 Best Restaurants in Seattle (https://www.thestranger.com/food-and-drink/2023/07/19/79083469/the-15-best-restaurants-in-the-seattle-area-2023). Slowly: it's August and I've been to 4 of the 15 (2 of which I'd been to prior to seeing this list); unintentionally: mostly I go to one of these places when I'm already planning to be in the neighborhood (meaning I probably won't ever make it to a few). Now, I love the irreverent writing style on display at The Stranger, and really enjoyed the author's turn of phrase. Her Top 15, though, I'm finding wanting. Once you eat at Mojito, the author says, "you [will] regret your life choices" for having eaten elsewhere. Eating the vaca frita made her realize she wasted her life not having had it earlier. Love the hyperbole; the food not as much. The vaca frita was dry. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be, with the crispy ends and such, but "dry" is not what I'm looking for in a meal. The flavor was fine, not life-altering. And where was the lime? I squeezed more onto it, but it just got lost somehow - just dry, crispy, limeless beef. I thought the rice and beans were star of that dish, but that's just sad. My wife asked about the coconut eggplant. The waiter cautioned that he personally doesn't like eggplant, but people who do say the dish is good. Note to self: listen to the waiter. My wife likes eggplant; she didn't like this dish. We also shared a custard dessert which was heavy and rich. Good enough in a cloying way; again, I question none of my life choices as a result of it. There are a LOT of rave reviews for this place, so maybe I just came on a down day. The staff was great, and the pace of service will either force you to relax or find the door. I will try this place again. To close out on The Stranger, I found myself wondering what criteria the author used in compiling her best-of list. "Life altering" is a little too vague; getting hit by a car can also be life altering. Re-reading the piece I see that she's looking for delicious food at reasonable prices: "I kept an eye on average prices for things like a taco or a slice of pizza in each neighborhood, considered whether the food at these spots is reasonable, then factored in things like innovation, quality, and ambiance." Those are criteria I can sink my teeth into. Since moving back to Seattle 4+ years ago, I have also been on the lookout for a go-to roster of gems that don't break the bank. As I'm only a quarter way through this list, it's probably too early to say this isn't it, but I also can't say it is. read more

I haven't had a lot of Latin American food so I won't pretend to speak much about authenticity or what a tradition dish looks and tastes like. But as someone who has tried a variety of cuisines and dishes, I think I know what good food tastes like. This place is pretty solid that if you're liking for Latin American food or any kind of food, this isn't a bad choice. I got the pabellon, which is beef in tomato sauce. The meat was dry and the sauce was a bit lacking in flavor. I'm glad I tried this place with some friends but I don't need to go back. read more

I had not been to Mojito in over a decade, despite its proximity to my house, and I really don't why I haven't. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the location, well, is close to me. I have only one complaint, and it's probably a little snotty and little snooty, so I'll save it for the end. Because, frankly, everything was nearly perfect. First, the service: I was the first to arrive of our party of 4, and I was told by one of our party that we had a reservation. The staff seemed quite confused, and I was told that they don't take reservations. So I stood around outside their small restaurant waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. When they did, the restaurant did in fact have a table for us. We just needed to talk with the right person. So: they don't take reservations, but sometimes you can fenagle one? Hmm. Still, they sat us promptly, so who am I to care. Second, the food: it was excellent, every last bite of it. We got two orders of the Columbian empanadas, cheese and chicken, and the Mojito Platter appetizers for the table, and all of them were fantastic. Just so scrumptious that I wanted more! I ordered the Milanese Pollo Plate, and it was just as good. I ate every single bite! Others at the table ordered the Pabellón Dinner and the Ensalada Palmito. My friends both sung the praises of their two plates. Third, the drinks: okay, here's where I'll get a bit snooty. One of us ordered lemonade, which he enjoyed, and the other the Tucán, which was fruity and tropical, just the way she wanted. All fine. I saw Cachaça on the menu, and was shocked (it's a liquor from Brazil), because it meant that they likely had Caipirinha on the menu. If you've never had a Caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil, you really should. Just don't have one at Mojito. Really. They don't know how to make it. The four ingredients of a Caipirinha are Cachaça, limes, sugar and ice. That, however, doesn't mean you just throw the four ingredients into a glass and call it done. This is more or less what Mojito did. No. The lime needs to be muddled with the sugar *in the glass*, with just the right amount of both limes and sugar, then you add ice, and then you pour in generous amounts of Cachaça. If done well, *that* is a Caipirinha, and it is amazing! What Mojito did was not. I'll never order it at their restaurant again. All of that said, everything so good at Mojito, I'll certainly be back. Everything, with one exception, was just so good. But I'll avoid the Caipirinha. read more

I happened to see this restaurant as I was getting into the freeway from Lake City Way two years ago. I finally made it. I ordered the Pabellon, Vaca Frita and chicken empanadas. My favorite was the Vaca Frita, but both meat dishes were very flavorful. The empanadas were out of this world. I'd go back just for those. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place! It's got quite a few traditional Latin American dishes to choose from! I ordered the pabellon and it was absolutely delicious! It came with a side of rice, black beans and maduros. It was a very full size plate for lunch and cost about $15, definitely great value! The restaurant itself is located in a quiet neighborhood so there's ample amounts of street parking available. Right when we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by the server and he said we were able to take a seat anywhere. It was such a sunny day so we opted for a spot outside. We were quickly attended by the server or maybe the owner, and he took our order. He was super nice and his positive energy was so contagious! Aww.man where to begin, the food was some of the best I have had. Everything was flavorful, perfect amount of heat. It's a small place, maybe 4-5 tables(2-4 people size) inside with outdoor seating as well. The service was very personable because it's only about 4 people including the cook providing services. 4out of 5 tables were full and everyone was enjoying the ambience. The server was attentive and warm as he stopped to talk with each table. They have virgin derision of most of their alcoholic drinks. They have fresh guanabana and guava drink which were delicious. This was my first time to Mojito and it won't be my last!! Luam is the most affable and cheerful person you'll ever meet! I felt like I was having lunch at his home. I got the lechón asado and the pork just melts in your mouth. Add some of the spicy sauces on the rice and pork and *chef's kiss!!! Yum!! Wow! This place is Ah-mazing! We got the Parrilla Mojito, Vaca Frita, and a Cuban Sandwich. They were all delicious!!! The Vaca Frita was crisped to perfection and a flavor explosion! The Cuban was light with a great balance of flavor. The Parrilla was mild and a great option for my super picky eater! Wow! I mean Holy Freakn crap this is good! Living in San Diego for the past 5 years I know good Latin American food and have such an appreciation for it but this is next level! Driving up I had a suspicion this spot would be fire based on the bright exterior and lively hispanic folk music filling the air but all my expectations were exceeded when I took the first bite. The manager Victor was extremely friendly and came over to my table, I asked him what his favorite item on the menu was and he recommended the Vaca Frita. It's located on the tip of a triangle strip at the end of a neighborhood with fairly decent parking. It's a rather small place and a tad shabby but not in a bad way. The colors are reminiscent of a trip to the Caribbean and nice music to bring that vibe full circle. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Easily my favorite restaurant in the Seattle area now. The food is very authentic, my Cuban wife fell in love with the food and atmosphere. They nailed the Cubano and Tostones. The green Mojito sauce is something truly special, I would buy that if they bottled that sauce and sold it. The Million Dollar Mojito needs to be experienced by everyone at least once. By far the most flavorful Mojito I've ever had, he makes the simple syrup in house and uses a whole lime in each drink. We got a side of Congri as well and it was legit, you know it's good when you find the bay leaves. As for the service, Luam and the crew really care about the business and the happiness of the customer and it really shows. I think another review mentioned it's like being invited to eat at his house, and it really is. Such a warm friendly atmosphere with awesome vibes. It's a bit of a drive for us but it's worth it. If you live in the area be grateful you have such a fine restaurant and don't be afraid to check it out. I can't wait to come back and have a Mojito and the Vaca Frita. read more

I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and my favorite is Pescado en Guiso - pictured. (I couldn't wait to start) It is a white fish with a rich tomato/olive/caper sauce- somewhat similar to puttanesca. I usually have it with salad and maduros. I love the menu, so I often stray from my favorite. Mojito is casual, fun, and great value. My whole family loves it! We live in Snohomish so this is our second trip to Mojito's. We brought 2 friends Sunday evening. Luam met us at the door and talked to it for a little bit and said a table would be ready in a few minutes. our waitress was super nice and helpful picking out appetizers. We ordered 3 of the Camarones Carman and one order of Guiso de Pollo. everything was fantastic !! Our waitress recommended the Quesillo for desert, it was fantastic, the little cup of coffee was perfect. Luam stoped at our table a few times to see how the food was and just talk to us, Luam's passion for his food and restaurant is clearly shown by the love he has for what he does. Our waitress had the same smile and you could tell she loved her job. When we left Luam mad sure to say goodbye. Our friends were shocked at how friendly everyone was and the fantastic meal.
