Ever since I had mofongo in Puerto Rico, I have searched different restaurants in New York City for mofongo. I visited this restaurant this morning. The food was good. Unfortunately, the woman at the counter who said her name was Joana had a very bad attitude. When I asked for sauce on my rice, she made a face and mumbled under her breath. I spoke with her in Spanish to avoid a language barrier. After I ate my food, I was SHOCKED to see that the tip was included in the bill. I have NEVER seen that for a party of one. When I questioned her about it, she blamed it on the owner and said that's how it's set in the computer. First, she pointed to the sign indicating the 4% up charge for credit cards. I explained to her that there's a difference between 4% and 15%. It made me think she just assumed that I wouldn't tip. I do not plan to return. read more

I am Puerto Rican and Monfongo does not ever come with cheese imagine my surprise and discuss when the Monfongo came topped with cheese. I am lactose intolerant so I had to throw it out. For a restaurant that is named mofongo you'd think that it was their specialty, right? Well no, this has the be one of the worst tasting mofongos I've ever had. It tasted like old platanos. Their pernil and piña coladas were on point though! For me it's a no, id never visit here again. read more

The only reason for one star is because although their food is good be aware if your order for delivery. 95% of the time the order is sent with missing items. It's is extremely frustrating when you order food and not everything is in the bag. Then God forbid if you call to inquire because they ALWAYS act like if your lying that they can never make a mistake. Even if it is their mistake the delivery guy never was wants to come back because he's too busy.Then they promise to out it on ur account "for the next time" that you order and if you do order and inquire about a credit from the previous order they never ever remember or nothing is never noted in the system so ultimately you never get nothing that you are owed. This happened to me last 4 orders stopped ordering completely I work way to hard for my money to hand it over to a business that cant or won't keep their word. read more

I wish I can give this restaurant ZERO stars for the terrible service I received. I literally walked in the restaurant and it was barely empty and I sat down for the waiter to take my order. The next moment a few people started coming in because of lunch hour but the waiter was no where in site. I was patiently waiting and a group of 6 came to the restaurant and sat down and out of nowhere the waiter magically appeared after 10-15 minutes of me waiting. He took their order and was attending them even though I and a few other people came ahead of them. Literally in 5-10 minutes he had brought out food for the group of 6 while I was still waiting for him to attend me. He messed up their order and he immediately fixes their order literally in two point seconds. While I'm sitting there still waiting for him to take my order. At that point I was beyond livid because I waited even longer which became 30 minutes waiting for service. I got their first than everybody else and the group of 6. But the waiter didn't even look at me or knowledge my presence and the other people that came before the group of 6. He didn't give us a menu or a glass of water. But was quick to give them their food and drinks. A couple that was right next to me were just as livid as I because they were experiencing the same crappy service as well and they proceeded to leave the restaurant. After they left I got inspired to leave as well. I told the waiter sarcastically that I enjoyed the service he provided and he had the audacity to tell me he was going to attend to me after I waited 30 minutes. I ignored him and I proceeded on leaving. Don't waste your time or breath coming to this establishment. If the staff doesn't know you personally they aren't going to attend to you. That a neighborhood barely has any decent restaurants in the area but I rather eat at a crappy pizza slice with no seasonings than to come to this place ever again. read more

Ok, maybe its not the prettiest or fanciest place around. But omg was the delicious. We ordered a Mofongo de Chicharron with cheese on top and Bistec Encebollado with Rice and Beans. The mofongo tasted as if it was made back in Dominican Republic! It had chicharron grinded up inside of it. The taste and consistency was perfect. The Steak with onions and rice w/ beans were amazing. This place definitely did not disappoint in the least bit. My check came out to $31 and we were stuffed. My friend decided to bring me here to eat for lunch. I later on learned that another woman took him here and that's how he learned about this place. I just thought that was funny so I decided to include it in my review. Thank you girl, whoever you are, because the food was good. Once we walked into the place, I noticed that there was only one table of customers, family of 3 to be exact. So this place isn't so busy on a Saturday between the hours of 2 and 3 p.m. My friend inquired about a specific soup and the waitress seemed to be confused. I think they both were confused at that time because he's African and doesn't know much about their food and I think the waitress is used to Latino people eating at this place. After all, it is considered to be a Dominican restaurant. Nevertheless, I don't discriminate against food just because it's not culturally related to me. Good food is good food!!! I think she was thrown off by his accent because when I repeated the same thing that he was saying, he just wanted to know what the Dominican soup was made of, she had no problems telling him the contents of the soup. She went to fix his food as I still needed time to decide what I wanted to eat. After looking at the menu, I decided on rice and beans without any meat. The waitress was actually a bit surprised because she even questioned me to make sure that maybe I wasn't forgetting to say I wanted meat. I also decided to go along with a drink they call Topical Mango. I really do think that whoever was responsible for producing the look of the menu, I think they meant to write tropical mango. Because for the life of me, I don't know what the hell a topical mango is. Even my phone wouldn't allow me to spell it the way it's spelled on the menu. I had to go behind the autocorrect and change it from tropical mango to topical mango. Haha. I will have you know that the topical mango was absolutely delicious. It was just a tad bit grainy which was just fine with me. I hate for smoothies to be so thick that it's tough to suck it through the straw. The flavor was absolutely perfect and it was so cold that by the time I finished the drink, I was freezing. Our waitress was absolutely gorgeous. Her skin looked as if you can swim in it. I don't know if you're now viewing me as crazy or just weird as hell, but if you have never witnessed someone with beautiful, Flawless skin... Come here. Her eyebrows were heaven-sent and she had a head full of beautiful hair that was slicked back. Her hips were out of this world and I mean that in a good way. It was as if it doesn't matter what this girl wears, just the silhouette of her body is pleasing to the eyes. Everything from head to toe about her was on point. I remember there was Spanish music playing the whole time. I think that when a place caters to a certain type of crowd or type of people, they forget to include "others". They had two television sets on, but because the music was drowning the sound out, closed captioning was on. Of course the closed captioning was in Spanish. I really wanted to love this place (the neighborhood needs variety) but the quality of the food is so inconsistent. I have no idea what happened, but the last two visits have left much to be desired. I ordered the shrimp mofongo to share and both times it was extremely salty. The last time, I was unable to eat past two bites. The food was also cold when it reached us. It is a small place and usually not packed; it takes a long time for the meal to reach the table and not feel freshly prepared. Worst mofongo i think I've ever had to be honest. I am from from Moca so i went in there with high expectations for this place and it was so disappointing. I ordered the Mofongo Mocano which is the classic mofongo with pork and cheese. Barely had chicharrón inside, on the side i was given a side of what usually is a gravy but im convinced it was just water and oil, and the worst part of it all was i had RAW pieces of plantain inside. At first i thought it was garlic but the chunks became larger and noticed it wasn't cooked all the way through. First and last time in this place to be honest. read more

During quarantine I went to a couple of very very close friend. I order salmon with malanga. The salmon was amazing. Really good. It was so good that my sister try it and she had to get her own plate because I was not sharing. I usually order churrasco with malanga and wanted to try something light and refreshing. Great choice. I wouldn't recommend this place. The food is overpriced, I waited almost an hour for two regular mofongos and they tasted average. I did not like the gravy or the diced tomatoes. I felt like the tomatoes didn't belong with the meal. The portion of the meal was not worth the price. The service was ok, the employees were apologetic and admitted they were busy however they lied about the wait for the food. I arrived at about 8:15 and I was told the wait was 15-20 mins. I waited outside in the car and every time I went back in she said to wait another 10 minutes. They noticed I was bothered and gave me a free juice. I ended up getting my food at 9:08. The dishes aren't flavorful, food is overpriced and service is slow and lacking. Wouldn't recommend.

We should have known better when we walked in the place and there was nobody else there. We ordered and after about ten or fifteen minutes we were giggling that maybe it was more crowded than the empty room suggested. God forbid you should ask them what the hold up is, because they only reprimand you for what you ordered--the only breakfast plate on the menu and a Cuban sandwich. The owner or manager or maybe just the handyman came to our table and gave us a stare that incensed me. We were clearly not welcome there. We paid, asked for the meals to go. When she took the food back to the kitchen, I knew we'd never eat it. She was that kind of nasty person. Waited another 10 minutes and ended up leaving the food on top of a recycle can hoping that someone would take the sodas, at least. We're not the kind of people who can afford to waste a meal, but we're also not going to take the risk of swallowing someone's spit. If this place has a manager other than the short, unkempt bully, they should clean house and hire people willing to serve the public. I was not crazy about the food here. It came out warm at best. There was enough food in terms of size, but it just wasn't anything special. Usually i get chicken at dominican restaurants but i tried the pork. Again kind of dry. I compare it to other places and i think i'll continue to go to the other places. read more
