Came here early morning on July 4th to pick some nectarines and yellow peaches. Right now its $2/pound for both fruits with no minimum pound requirement. Not sure if this is the correct season for these fruits but all of the fruits seem to be extremely hard and not ripe at all. It was a little hard to figure out which should and could be picked and which shouldn't. After we got back to the car to try it, was a little disappointed because both fruits wasn't that sweet or soft. Nectarines are definitely better than yellow peaches though. Walking the track is a bit hard, a lot of soft squishy mud so would definitely recommend wearing sneakers. Also although the workers were nice, they didn't really point out where to pick the fruits so was lost for a few minutes. Would come back once I figured out the correct season to pick these fruits. Did not realize how important this is because of how under-ripe the fruits were.

I go pick cherries at Chavez once a year for 7-8 years now. I wake up very early and try to get there right when they open so that I don't get stuck in traffic. It can get crowded. Also, this can help you get a parking spot for sure. They do have a big parking lot though so it's probably okay. Price this year: $4/lb. They accept credit card now too. I love cherries here. They are quite big, sweet and a little tangi. Yummy!! Just make sure to be patient and don't pick the ones that are not that dark yet. Keep going until you find a good tree. Then you can commit to picking them. I've seen people that pick too many of the light pink color ones and then ended up threw them away so they don't have to pay. So bad. To check if they open, you should visit their fb page or website. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064332085997&mibextid=ZbWKwL https://chavezupickcherries.com/ It's also really good if you bring a tall friend so they can pick the cherries up high for you haha.

We grabbed a couple buckets and we were off. There were so many cherries and we were more than happy to have our fill of samples. So sweet! At $4 a lb these were on the pricier side but worth it for how much fun we had. We ended up paying $88 for our pick. Come early in the AM to beat the heat!

Shout out to my sister for doing the research and doing all the planning when it came down to our trip during Marsh Creek's opening weekend. Located in Brentwood, this U-Pick cherry farm offers a fun experience where you can purchase fresh fruit directly from the source. Staff encourages you to sample from the tree prior to plucking. This joint will set you back $4.50 a pound for u-pick version and they offer pre-picked cherries for $6 a pound. Additional items for sale: a fruit picker stick for $15, Marsh Creek Farm hats for $20, water bottles for $1, & local honey for $18. With our visit occurring during opening weekend, picking the cherries wasn't too bad. There was plenty of reachable fruit for ya girl who is a whopping 5'5. The darker, sweeter options located at the tip top of the trees were only accessible if you had a fruit picker. No ladders were available or seen. 5/5 stars for the memorable family fun. Our party left with 3 [small] buckets of firm, crisp, semi tart, & juicy cherries. I'd come back in a heartbeat but would recommend patrons to use the restroom prior to the trip out- the porta potties provided were horrendously disgusting.

The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and resourceful. We had such a great experience that we're already looking forward to coming back next year. Safety Opportunities: While our experience was wonderful, we did notice a few areas for improvement in terms of safety. The pathways leading to the cherry trees could benefit from some maintenance: trimming weeds, filling in potholes, and general upkeep would help prevent potential trip hazards and make the paths safer for families.

(3.5 stars, rounded up to 4)…read more The Urban Edge Farm is well-known for their peach and apricots during the summer time. But who said U-Pick season has to end after the summer? During the fall, they offer other U-Pick fruits, such as pomegranates, persimmons, and kumquats. Last weekend, we decided to try out their persimmon U-Pick. I initially found out about when their persimmon U-Pick would be available through an Instagram comment (there weren't any lnstagram posts or events on their website directly advertising this year's persimmon season), but I also double-checked by calling them the morning of before making the trek to Brentwood. The front of the farm area is a little store front, where you can buy fresh produce that's been harvested directly from the farm. This is also where you weigh your fruits after picking them. After completing the liability form via QR code, they drive you and your guests on a jeep to the fruit trees (and back). During the short drive to the persimmon trees, we also spotted baby cherry trees, a couple of pomegranate trees, and what appeared to be a grapefruit tree. As for the persimmons, there were about 5 Fuyu trees and 2 Hachiya trees. There were plenty of Fuyus available for us to pick. On the other hand, the Hachiya trees were quite bare so we only ended up finding and picking one that was ripe enough. At $4/lb for both varieties of persimmons, we ended up paying around ~$17 for 12 persimmons. The persimmons that were ripe enough to eat were nice and sweet. Getting the U-Pick experience without the summer heat and with reasonable prices was great. The only downside to this experience was the abundance of ants on the trees. The ants got on my hands, clothes, and even my face and the top of my head. The ants didn't appear to affect the quality of the fruit, since they were mainly on the branches and the tops of the persimmon leaves. I wasn't afraid of getting ants on me, but it was starting to get bothersome having to swat the ants away from my body and the persimmons I picked. I thought I had gotten rid of all the ants before leaving and getting into my car, but throughout the ride home, I spotted some straggler ants on my lap and arms, and even on the windshield! So take that into consideration if you're not particularly fond of ants.
