I took my two toddlers here for their first fruit picking excursion and boy, was it memorable. Farmers daughter provides buckets for free and doesn't charge an entrance fee unlike another local popular farm. Their produce stand was also filled with a wide range of prepicked fruit and veggies. Service was beyond kind and I loved that they had tables and lots of open space for kids to frolick. This was like a 2 hour adventure for us and the kids can't stop talking about it. We can't wait to return!

Later on, we found out that section was already out of season. As we walked farther, we finally saw much better cherries, but most of the good ones were way too high to reach and there were no ladders available. There were some lower branches, but the cherries there were not great in quality, so we ended up picking only around 3 lbs. We then decided to switch to the peach and nectarine area hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately there was barely anything good to pick. Most of the fruits were either overripe, damaged, or already picked over. Overall, it felt like the farm should have better guidance on which sections are still worth visiting before customers pay and spend time walking around in the heat. The staff was fine, but the overall fruit quality and picking experience were disappointing for us this visit.

During the fall, they offer other U-Pick fruits, such as pomegranates, persimmons, and kumquats. Last weekend, we decided to try out their persimmon U-Pick. I initially found out about when their persimmon U-Pick would be available through an Instagram comment (there weren't any lnstagram posts or events on their website directly advertising this year's persimmon season), but I also double-checked by calling them the morning of before making the trek to Brentwood. The front of the farm area is a little store front, where you can buy fresh produce that's been harvested directly from the farm. This is also where you weigh your fruits after picking them. After completing the liability form via QR code, they drive you and your guests on a jeep to the fruit trees (and back). During the short drive to the persimmon trees, we also spotted baby cherry trees, a couple of pomegranate trees, and what appeared to be a grapefruit tree. As for the persimmons, there were about 5 Fuyu trees and 2 Hachiya trees. There were plenty of Fuyus available for us to pick. On the other hand, the Hachiya trees were quite bare so we only ended up finding and picking one that was ripe enough. At $4/lb for both varieties of persimmons, we ended up paying around ~$17 for 12 persimmons. The persimmons that were ripe enough to eat were nice and sweet. Getting the U-Pick experience without the summer heat and with reasonable prices was great. The only downside to this experience was the abundance of ants on the trees. The ants got on my hands, clothes, and even my face and the top of my head. The ants didn't appear to affect the quality of the fruit, since they were mainly on the branches and the tops of the persimmon leaves. I wasn't afraid of getting ants on me, but it was starting to get bothersome having to swat the ants away from my body and the persimmons I picked. I thought I had gotten rid of all the ants before leaving and getting into my car, but throughout the ride home, I spotted some straggler ants on my lap and arms, and even on the windshield! So take that into consideration if you're not particularly fond of ants.

Came for a private birthday event that would ultimately consist of a family style meal with salad…read moreand paella. The experience itself kind of fell into two main categories: the service versus the product we experienced. The service was wonderful. The staff at the farm was very friendly, they provided specific instructions on how the evening was going to proceed, and overall it was well organized. We met up as a group, learned about the farm itself, and then divided up to harvest, lettuce and tomatoes for the salad we'd be having as part of our meal. This was fun and immersive, and the quality of produce was great. There was also an opportunity to pick flowers that would be used as table decor as well as on the birthday cake. Speaking of the birthday cake, this was made from scratch by an employee in house and was phenomenal. The downside of this experience was the food, specifically the paella. It was a pretty windy day and the first concern arose it took a hot second to light up the paella cooktop. It was suggested that we bring it inside to cook, but the suggestion wasn't taken. I don't know if they're not able to use it inside due to fire, hazard or not but regardless, the cooking for it was done outside and it was difficult to maintain temperature. As a result, the paella came out severely undercooked. The rice was crunchy but, more alarming, was the undercooked seafood: shrimp, scallops, mussels, fish. I think the entire dish didn't get fully cooked due to the reduced cooking temperature as a result of the wind outdoors. I know I wasn't alone and feeling this as my table mates felt the same about the paella and I also saw other people from our group at other tables picking up and inspecting the seafood. Fortunately, I didn't get sick and no one that I know of got sick, but I do think there is an opportunity in improvement here as it definitely could have been much worse.

The owner said they have 19 varieties and the way he planted the trees was the varieties that would ripen at the beginning of the season are closer to the front. Varieties that ripen later are at the back. The orchard is large! The owner was super friendly. He offers bags and cardboard boxes for you to carry your fruits, and recommends cardboard boxes so as to not crush your fruits. There was no signage indicating price/pound, and they give you a plastic bag to carry your cherries. When we got into the orchard, we noticed that most of the trees had been either picked clean or had berries that were rotten or too small/not ripe yet. We intentionally walked much further in to see if we could find some trees that hadn't been picked as much, but the orchard wasn't in great shape. We struggled to find cherries we actually wanted to pick, and we tripped a few times on the uneven dirt, weeds, and tubes running throughout. When we left, we weighed our cherries and confirmed they were $4/lb. Freitas also doesn't take credit card, so we had to pay with either cash or Venmo. We've previously been to The Cherry Pit and far preferred our experience there. The Cherry Pit had parking closer to the entrance, clear signage indicating price/lb, lots of high quality trees and ample cherries to pick, and accepts credit cards. The Cherry Pit also didn't ask us to sign a waiver before entering.
