a variety of apricots on plates

An amazing farm for apricots. Super sweet, ripened apricots. Farm is spacious and clean. Owner is very nice. Plenty of fruits still to be picked. They also have nectarines and cherries. Thank youuuu for your beautiful fruits!!! Please check out their Facebook postings for updates.

Rainiers

This is for 1600 Eureka Ave location, no RSVP needed, $3/lb cash only, has cherries (include Rainier), apricots, yellow peaches and donut peaches, provides bucket, bag, step ladder....there. As for the juicy details..... Its our annual trip to Brentwood, the week after the Memorial weekend Pomeroy was one of the few that still offered Rainiers for picking, the others being the smaller Newberry and Vornhagen. Sat 9:30 am plenty of parking on dirt lot, crowd was still thin, we were skeptical there would be anything left after the Memorial weekend mob stormed Brentwood. Check-in was quick and painless, the folks at Hawaiian Airlines should pay heed. We walked through the main part of the orchard then crossed another dirt road to reach the cherries all the way in the back. The "white" cherries were so ripened that they were practically red, it took us a few min to confirm they were indeed the highly coveted Rainiers. Most if not all of the trees have been partially ravaged. There were ladders here and there, prob tall enough for Arthur Wellesley's Forlong hope to storm the walls of Badajoz. We were fortunate to find 1 abandoned and strategically located next to a few viable trees. For the next hour we managed to pick 10 lb of lovely Rainiers. They were crispy, glossy, juicy and absolutely delish....oops guess I forgot to mention we sampled a few along the way:) The apricots did not looked as ripened so we pass, we didn't look at any yellow peaches or donut peaches trees, but were told they prob can wait another week or 2.

Came here for some U-Pick Apricots (its the only fruit they currently have) at 8 am sharp. There's a minimum of 5 pounds per group and it is $2.50/pound (cheaper than Costco). We picked a total of 11 pounds and every apricot was delicious - even the hard ones. Some tips when you come: - Come early, it starts getting "more" crowded after 9 am. You get first pick of all the newly-ripe fruits and can take pictures in peace. - Plenty of parking, so don't worry! - Not a lot of bugs and it gets HOT so wear shorts and short sleeve. Will definitely come back for more u-pick. Should have gone earlier this season because a lot of fruits like cherries and some peaches are already all gone.

06/06/2020: Red Top Yellow Peaches -- pretty sweet

Review #096 - 2020 We've been doing a lot of fruit picking since this whole coronavirus thing started; but I've got to admit that I'm grateful for all these orchards that continue to allow us to come back year after after. In all honesty, I was truly excited about coming to Pomeroy because they have many different types of fruits to choose from. I was even more excited when I heard they have nectarines and white peaches because they're both my favorite stone fruits. Sadly, the nectarines weren't ready so I only picked a few and they were super sour even after a few days of sitting on my kitchen counter. I didn't get any of the UFO white peaches because they didn't look very good, but I did get a few of the red top yellow peaches and they were pretty sweet. However, I'm not a huge fan of apricots so I only picked four to give to my nieces & I didn't try any. They had sweetheart cherries and white rainier cherries, but there weren't much left to pick of the rainiers. Although, the few that I did pick were very sweet, but not very crunchy. The sweetheart ones were ok, but I already found a favorite cherry so I will keep going back to that one. Overall, we picked a total of 7 lbs of mixed stone fruits and 4 lbs of cherries. For the price I paid, I wasn't very satisfied with the quality, but I did enjoy the experience. We probably won't be back, especially since parking is pretty inconvenient.

We were looking for a farm that had U-pick cherries late in the season and Pomeroy Farm still had them! Nice and sweet. They're at the back of the property behind the peaches and apricots. Don't forget to bring cash, sunscreen and a hat. Buckets and ladders available on site. Minimum 5lbs of fruit (you can mix and match), $3/lb.

Peaches! ($2.50/lb, 5lb minimum, opening day 6/1/2017)

Came on opening day for peach picking, June 1st! $2.99/lb with a 5lb minimum. Pretty easy to reach 5lbs. If your goal isn't to over buy, don't get pick happy as I did. I walked out with $11 lb of peaches, yum! The nectarines a few trees over weren't available yet for picking, what a bummer! I will definitely like to come back. Also, it's so easy to miss the turn for this location that they even have a huge sign that tells you to go back 50 feet which we had to do (:

Came here for U-pick this year. Was a little late for cherries but just in time for peaches and apricots. Was $3/lb for everything, they provide buckets or you can also bring your own. Tastes much better than grocery store fruit, go get some!

Great prices on apricots and stone fruits! Especially loved the nectarines which were juicy and ripe. They have donut peaches too but many were already split open on the tree!

Great experience here a few months ago, family had a blast and there was a lot of fruit available to pick.

For 10 years straight, Nunn Better Cherry Orchard in Brentwood has never let us down!…read more Every season we make the trip out, and every single year the cherries are absolutely incredible -- sweet, fresh, and impossible to stop eating before we even get home. Well being truthful even some as we picked....The orchard is beautiful, the staff is always friendly, and the experience has become one of our favorite family traditions. In a world where so many places change over time, it's honestly amazing to have a spot that stays consistently wonderful year after year. Thank you for a decade of memories, sticky fingers, full buckets, and happy hearts. Already counting down until next cherry season! Now to pit them and make a fresh cherry pie..... $4.50/pound

Later on, we found out that section was already out of season. As we walked farther, we finally saw much better cherries, but most of the good ones were way too high to reach and there were no ladders available. There were some lower branches, but the cherries there were not great in quality, so we ended up picking only around 3 lbs. We then decided to switch to the peach and nectarine area hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately there was barely anything good to pick. Most of the fruits were either overripe, damaged, or already picked over. Overall, it felt like the farm should have better guidance on which sections are still worth visiting before customers pay and spend time walking around in the heat. The staff was fine, but the overall fruit quality and picking experience were disappointing for us this visit.

Unfortunately, it was too late to get reservations for the next day but a friend had mentioned there was another farm taking walk-ins so we decided to give them a try. Following the long line of traffic down Sellers Avenue we found our destination was sold out. Although the city seemed busy, I was determined to find a spot to pick some cherries. We drove toward Delta Road and happen to stumble upon Dwelley Farms. Thankfully, they weren't too busy yet and were taking walk-ins for $5 per adult and children free. The $5 fee would also go toward whatever cherries were picked for purchase. The person in the front explained their rate was a little higher than others since their farm was organic. The farm was clean, easy to navigate through and had covid protocols in place. We were directed toward the riper, fuller trees and found them to be quite sweet and plentiful. Seeing the excitement of my parents and husband and son bonding over cherry picking filled my heart. They were all having so much fun picking and trying cherries I only picked a handful while snapping photos and enjoying their happiness. I do not remember how long we stayed at the farm but lots of smiles and $43 in cherries later we left with 8lbs of cherries. And did we eat them all? YES, because they were that good. I'm happy we found Dwelley Farms and look forward to visiting them again next year.

(3.5 stars, rounded up to 4)…read more The Urban Edge Farm is well-known for their peach and apricots during the summer time. But who said U-Pick season has to end after the summer? During the fall, they offer other U-Pick fruits, such as pomegranates, persimmons, and kumquats. Last weekend, we decided to try out their persimmon U-Pick. I initially found out about when their persimmon U-Pick would be available through an Instagram comment (there weren't any lnstagram posts or events on their website directly advertising this year's persimmon season), but I also double-checked by calling them the morning of before making the trek to Brentwood. The front of the farm area is a little store front, where you can buy fresh produce that's been harvested directly from the farm. This is also where you weigh your fruits after picking them. After completing the liability form via QR code, they drive you and your guests on a jeep to the fruit trees (and back). During the short drive to the persimmon trees, we also spotted baby cherry trees, a couple of pomegranate trees, and what appeared to be a grapefruit tree. As for the persimmons, there were about 5 Fuyu trees and 2 Hachiya trees. There were plenty of Fuyus available for us to pick. On the other hand, the Hachiya trees were quite bare so we only ended up finding and picking one that was ripe enough. At $4/lb for both varieties of persimmons, we ended up paying around ~$17 for 12 persimmons. The persimmons that were ripe enough to eat were nice and sweet. Getting the U-Pick experience without the summer heat and with reasonable prices was great. The only downside to this experience was the abundance of ants on the trees. The ants got on my hands, clothes, and even my face and the top of my head. The ants didn't appear to affect the quality of the fruit, since they were mainly on the branches and the tops of the persimmon leaves. I wasn't afraid of getting ants on me, but it was starting to get bothersome having to swat the ants away from my body and the persimmons I picked. I thought I had gotten rid of all the ants before leaving and getting into my car, but throughout the ride home, I spotted some straggler ants on my lap and arms, and even on the windshield! So take that into consideration if you're not particularly fond of ants.
