It was a freaking MADHOUSE when we came during Memorial Day weekend. But the 3 kids with us (one was mine and two were loaners) had an absolute blast. Hint: find an out-of-the-way corner of the orchard if you want the best cherries with minimal crowding.

Super juicy

Had a great time picking cherries today just a day before Mother's Day. $3.50 per lb and picking your own is worth it than buying from Costco...parking was free and the lot had plenty of space. Experience was pretty good... will do it again next year

In A Nutshell: -Maggiore Ranch is a definitely a hidden gem amongst all the cherry orchards in Byron/Brentwood. -First time I've been back cherry picking since I was a kid. -Awesome that California had historic rainfalls late 2016/early 2017 bc these cherries are so PLUMP & JUICY. -The customer service was very informative & friendly. -$3.50 /lb. -They provide buckets (a full bucket weighs about 30 lbs). Overall, you'll see many, many options to pick cherries, but if you want reachable, hardly touched trees then come to Maggiore Ranch before it's too late!

One of the many cherry trees.

This is my first time cherry picking and it was great! Cherry season starts in May and coming on a Sunday which also happened to be Mother's Day was packed with a LOT of people. After reading some of the previous reviews, I figured coming early is definitely worth it. We arrived at 11am and I was super surprised the parking lot area was nearly maxed. (Not much of a parking area except just parking on dirt/grass). After parking you have to sign a liability form (no charge), because the farm has ladders...yup ladders for climbing up them and picking the cherries from the top of the trees. That's fun! Probably around 1 hour later, we ate and gathered 3lbs of cherries in a large bucket. Not to mention the cherries are super sweet, and I ate a good handful of them :-) which is allowed. The price is $3.50/lb...but is it worth it? Definitely. It's a good day's outing and fun to do.

Went here last week and loved it so much, I requested another trip to Brentwood for Memorial weekend.

Later on, we found out that section was already out of season. As we walked farther, we finally saw much better cherries, but most of the good ones were way too high to reach and there were no ladders available. There were some lower branches, but the cherries there were not great in quality, so we ended up picking only around 3 lbs. We then decided to switch to the peach and nectarine area hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately there was barely anything good to pick. Most of the fruits were either overripe, damaged, or already picked over. Overall, it felt like the farm should have better guidance on which sections are still worth visiting before customers pay and spend time walking around in the heat. The staff was fine, but the overall fruit quality and picking experience were disappointing for us this visit.

Well being truthful even some as we picked....The orchard is beautiful, the staff is always friendly, and the experience has become one of our favorite family traditions. In a world where so many places change over time, it's honestly amazing to have a spot that stays consistently wonderful year after year. Thank you for a decade of memories, sticky fingers, full buckets, and happy hearts. Already counting down until next cherry season! Now to pit them and make a fresh cherry pie..... $4.50/pound

My daughter and I found what looked to be an unpicked cherry tree and went to work. It didn't take long for us to gather a bounty of cherries, and there was tons of low hanging fruit that was super easy for a petite seven-year-old to reach. Special thanks to the Freitas staff member who told us to pick dark cherries. The bright red ones look appealing but they need more time on the tree! We took home seven pounds of cherries. They were $4/pound and they take cash or credit cards. I checked their website before heading here (and recommend you do too!). We'll definitely be back to Freitas.

There was no signage indicating price/pound, and they give you a plastic bag to carry your cherries. When we got into the orchard, we noticed that most of the trees had been either picked clean or had berries that were rotten or too small/not ripe yet. We intentionally walked much further in to see if we could find some trees that hadn't been picked as much, but the orchard wasn't in great shape. We struggled to find cherries we actually wanted to pick, and we tripped a few times on the uneven dirt, weeds, and tubes running throughout. When we left, we weighed our cherries and confirmed they were $4/lb. Freitas also doesn't take credit card, so we had to pay with either cash or Venmo. We've previously been to The Cherry Pit and far preferred our experience there. The Cherry Pit had parking closer to the entrance, clear signage indicating price/lb, lots of high quality trees and ample cherries to pick, and accepts credit cards. The Cherry Pit also didn't ask us to sign a waiver before entering.

Tip: follow them on instagram to get the latest updates on hours and available fruits for picking. The place is quite large, so you'll need to pay for their tractor ride ($4) to get from station to station. We came around 10:00 a.m. on a Monday and the place wasn't crowded. We picked up our baskets and then let the kids place around their tree house for a little bit before getting on the tractor. Our first stop was peaches and apricots. The peaches were pretty low hanging, and the kids were so excited to pick them. However, there weren't that many ripe ones at this time. There were more ripe apricots, and they were sweet and juicy. Our next stop was the strawberry station where there were plenty of ripe strawberries. Our last stop was the cherry station. Our driver directed us to the last row where we could find ladders. Sure enough the cherries were plentiful and so sweet and juicy. There were even kid size ladders for the littles ones. The fruits were 100 times better than what you'll find at the grocery store, and the kids had so much fun picking their own fruits. If you need a fun activity with the kids, I high recommend coming here.

However, there was no water available, and the staff member at the front wasn't able to tell us where to find any. Overall, it felt like the weekday experience lacked attention to guest services. In comparison, Urban Edge Farm, just a few minutes away, offered outstanding service, high-quality produce, and complimentary rides, making for a much more enjoyable visit.
