Kate Bush! Has avocado, pickled beets, tomato & eggs. The spreads on it were de-lish!

I loooove modern times and is always the first restaurant I recommend anyone asking about breakfast recs. Their hash browns are reliably crispy. Go early because there's usually a waiting list. My favorite items are the chakra khan, good morning healing earth and the bacon. This place showed me how to enjoy vegetables with breakfast! Most recently I tried the Kate Bush, the flavors were definitely there, but all the food items fell into the soft category, it was delish so next time I'll add crispy bacon! This restaurant has vegan/vegetarian substitues for all meal choices. I always top everything with the lemon Serrano hot sauce, not too spicy! The vibe is always busy but chill. I have noticed the food does take a while to come out to you sometimes.

Half order of hashbrowns ($3.50) and side of garlic kale ($5).

Whenever I go to take someone to the "neighborhood cafe," Modern Times is that cafe! It has a totally unapologetic DIY cozy vibe, featuring local art on the walls, hand-written signage, and mismatched dishware that genuinely makes it feel like you're having brunch at a friend's house. The staff are all great and super knowledgeable about the offerings so if you ever don't know what to get, they'll have a recommendation locked and loaded for ya! Their menu is incredibly thoughtful and I find this is one of the few places I can get a balanced meal just by ordering any single dish as-is; everything naturally is chock full of veggies and protein alike! They're also able to make anything on the menu vegetarian or vegan, so there's truly something for everyone here. When I went today, I had the best tea of my life!! I usually just get their drip coffee, but decided to be adventurous and order off the specials board today--I picked the orange cream oolong milk tea ($4.50) since I'm a big milk tea fan generally, and it changed my life--Tea Source citrus oolong with honey and steamed milk, which sounds simple, but was unbelievably good. Perfectly milky while still having a strong tea flavor, and wasn't too sweet! When I got down to the bottom of it, I got a look at the teabag which was absolutely PACKED with tea--I can safely say that this was the best milk tea I've ever had, and wish I could take a gallon of it home with me in a thermos. The food itself is always good here, but today I tried the pastrami hash ($17) for the first time--house hashbrowns (that are always seasoned to perfection), mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomato, house-made pastrami, local cheddar, two eggs, poblano sour cream, served with spring greens in vinaigrette and two tortillas. You can also sub the pastrami for tempeh and/or the cheddar for cashew cream to make it veggie! Gigantic portion and the flavors were great. I normally go over-easy for my eggs but our server recommended poached so I went with that, which was absolutely the right choice. They also have a little pastry case with a daily rotation of scratch-made baked goods--we grabbed some scrap donuts on our way out today!

Another plant based paradise in Minneapolis. Our son took us here for breakfast and the food was incredible. I did the Surfs Up wrap with had so much flavor. It comes with some options some vegetarian option and some meat options. I didn't with bacon versus tempeh and it was amazing. Really big portions and they are all full of fresh ingredients. It's super popular so plan on waiting a bit but it's more than worth the wait

Honestly, I was reading and looking at photos. It actually quite surprising. They have a good amount of vegan/ vegetarian food and meaty food as well. I like the hashbrown it was crunchy. I like that they give a big portion of food for it price. The green sauce is good not too spicy. The service was pretty good, it's not the best too. They're nice and friendly. I love how they all have a different personality and style! If you wanna get a spot, come early because they will make you wait in the other room. The ambiance is good, just everything is going on at once. Would come back and try something new.

Clancey's Meats & Fish - Breakfast Sandwich

I read about Clancey's and we decided to give it a try for lunch. There are two parts to…read moreClancey's. On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

At lunch,…read morethere can be a mad rush for their classic roast beef sandwich, but the staff handles the crowd with efficiency and detail. I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.

I really wasn't prepared to spend $15 on a single sandwich though. Listen, everything about this place was fine. Including the sandwich itself (I got the Adult Club cuz I love me some chicken salad, but I should've asked to have the bread toasted... it really wasn't all that sourdoughy in taste either??). I just can't quite get over the amount it cost. Which I guess might be why there aren't any prices listed on the menu signs. Like, my hubbie and I DIDN'T get drinks or chips or a side or dessert. None of that. Just a sandwich for the each of us and it was $30. If we had added stuff, I bet we'd've run the bill up to $50 in no time. For lunch! Gotta be trippin'! I like supporting small local business when I can but I think this place isn't in my budget. Sorry. :( But the employees were nice, the ambiance was cool, the tables were clean, large selection of drinks, very tempting looking desserts, even ice cream, and a community board. If money isn't a concern that factors into your decisions, absolutely patronize this joint. I'll just be jealous.

Not too heavy mayo or mustard, eggs, soft potatoes with a little chew (perfectly cooked) and red bell pepper. The sandwich was great. Freshly baked bread that was soft. The chicken salad was really good. Again, a great balance of mayo, not too much. They use shredded chicken which is the way it should be done. Some different options for toppings that you don't get from those other sub chains. A great lunch. I'll be ordering again.

The menus are not posted online yet, but they have about 8-10 sandwiches, all on the same Patisserie 46 rolls, as well as a few sides and a kids menu. My friend and I each ordered the Wesley and our sandwiches were ready within minutes. Unfortunately, my order came out as the Eddie rather than the Wesley, but it sounded good so I just went with it. The staff was beyond generous and ended up making the Wesley for me anyways. The Eddie was good, not great. It comes with bacon, turkey, avocado, tomato, lettuce and chipotle mayo. The chipotle mayo was so tasty with subtle heat, and the roll was nice and soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. My only complaint was the meat - the turkey was slightly tough and the bacon was served like a cold cut which didn't allow for much texture differentiation or flavor. The avocado was ripe and creamy and the tomatoes were juicy and fresh. I wonder if cooked/crispy bacon would make a difference in flavor and texture? And then just better cuts of that turkey would have elevated the Eddie in my opinion. Keeping in mind that they just opened, I would not count Little Bird off my list, but I do think there are plenty of other good sandwich shops to check out in Minneapolis as well.
