:::Update::: Seems to me that the owner can be a little bitter when he gets constructive criticism about his business if his business receives under 4 stars. The owner and I have corresponded in the past and he said he wasn't offended by my review. I stand firm on my review as it was honest and not disrespectful. I've even edited my review after the first correspondence. 3 months later, I'm getting a CREEPY response about "my business failing", "that I had to move locations" and that "I'm in litigation from my previous landlord"? Firstly, I DON'T EVEN OWN A BUSINESS!! ...so there's that...WHERE is he getting this botched information from? Secondly, if I did have a business, who are YOU to advertise my internal business affairs? On yelp, no less!! This can only mean he's tried googling me to see what I was about...and THAT'S SCARY!! Thirdly, bi-polar much?!! Fourth, he tries to "remove" and "hide" bad reviews by putting them in the "Not recommended reviews" section and then calling them...and me cyber bullies? HOW?! Lastly...I will NOT let this owner bully me to changing my review to anything positive. After this last response I am definitively giving a 1 star rating. I would have given NO stars. I mean, Who does that?! What kind of business owner disrespects a patron this way? Yelp is about rating businesses. That's what it is. Grain of salt situation...If your company is doing better, then let my, now, 1 star be diminished by oncoming 5 star comments. If and when that happens, more power to Modern Pet! If not, then all I can do is wish them nothing but the best. The only reason why Sean J. (the owner) is hostile is because he is all butt-hurt about my rating. Grow up! Sean, do NOT contact me again. When I returned to NYC on July 3rd, 2021, after 20 months of being away from home (b/c of COVID), this was the first place I stopped. I went there to buy a treat for my exceptional puppy who was amazing during our 5-6 day journey driving back home from Florida. Long story short we have been coming back here ever since. My puppy thinks everyday is Halloween at Modern Pet. He is in the habit of dragging me here from 20 minutes or more away. In fact, he dragged me here today (Sunday morning) and I was busy telling him they are closed but as it turned out, they were open and in we went. Luckily I have learned to carry money when I walk him so I can pay for the items he wants there. Today it was two bully sticks and a stuffed toy fox. The people here are exceptional nice. I cannot say enough about them. Sebastian was so kind and incredibly patient with me as I bought two different cars there to see if the 4Pets Proline dog box (made in Switzerland) would fit into either of my cars. It did not fit into my Toyota Camry or my Mom's Chevrolet Impala. I jokingly said to Sebastian that if I could I would sell my cars and buy one that would fit the box. Long story short. I sold my car. My Mom sold her car. We ended up with a SUV but as it turned out the 4Pet Proline dog box is too large for my dog despite the exceptional value (currently 50% off) for this high end dog crate. Word to the wise, if you have a medium size dog and spend serious time traveling with your dog, as I do, you might want to check this product out. See the pictures. This brand currently does not have a US distributor and would be hard to obtain anywhere else in the states. But more to the point, the people here are so kind and helpful including the owner, Sean. I cannot say enough kind things about them. I am only hoping they do not start charging me rent as I spend so much time here with my dog.

I have been shopping at Modern Pet for years and highly recommend the shop for their expertise and professionalism. The staff have a thorough understanding of their products. Often they have guided me to find a food to best fit my pets needs while also considering my budget - suggesting options that will meet our needs. I am grateful for them as I know my dogs are getting top quality food, while at a cost my family can agree on. BEST IN TOWN!

I was in the Bay Terrace shopping center this evening for some last minute holiday shopping. I passed by Modern Pet and decided to get a Christmas present for my 7 month old kitten Miko. He is an extremely active grey tabby, who is always terrorizing my other 5 year old cat Jaz. I thought, why not get him a cat leash, so I can maybe take him on an outdoor adventure now and then to release his energy. I quickly found the cat section in the back, and picked out a silver and grey cat leash which would match his fur. While I was wandering around looking around at some more cat toys, I was approached by a man who i later found out was the owner, Sean. He was very nice, helpful and personable and engaged me in friendly conversation. He told me about some premium cat food that he recommended for an affordable price. He also informed me that the cat leash I selected was on sale. In addition the leash, I ended up getting a cat dancer deluxe toy, which both my cat Jaz and my kitten Miko responded well too. (See photos:) I ended up signing up for their rewards program and I will be back for the cat food. Anyone who is complaining about prices in these reviews is ignorant about how retail vs warehouses work. large warehouses like chewy don't have to pay overheard or staff and don't have the personalized & knowledgeable customer service like a small mom n pop store like this one has. Second of all the prices here were very comparable. I prefer to spend my money in smaller shops like this one with great customer service than large faceless corporate entities. I will be happy to support Modern Pet whenever I am in the area.

amazing amazing amazing! love everyone here! the staff as well as the owner himself, are all so welcoming, knowledgable and i just dunno what sophia and i would do without u guys lol!! just wanted to give you guys a heads up on how thankful we are to have u right near our house and for always being so accommodating and knowledgable! won't be going anywhere else for our sophia's dog food and pet supplies/needs! thank you guys! oh and as a matter a fact, i'm coming there tonight to pick up some frozen food for ms. picky sophia...ughhh she drives me crazy!! lol see u soon! danielle farnochi & your favorite frenchie, sophia

There truly isn't enough kind words I can say about this place to give it its great merit. All of Modern pet staff and the owner are amazing! Extremely kind, very informative and not one time have I stepped into this place without someone asking me "is there anything I can help you with?" even the owner himself, and that says a lot. Rather it's for my pups food, toys, treats etc. Not to mention, I never knew they also provide grooming services for your pups, which I'm delighted to know bc now they will be my go to and I am 100% sure they will not disappoint. They have a great variety of healthy food for pets which is the reason why I initially chose this place when I got my pup and I'm glad I did. My pup always gets so happy to see people and ofc tinkles most of the times someone greets him and modern pet never makes you feel bad for little accidents, they kindly let you know not to worry and clean up his little pee tinkle, they probably know him for tinkling when he gets excited yet still always greet my little boy. One of the staff members, I believe his name is Sebastian is amazing. Even though I've been going there for quite a while anytime I go he always informs me of perhaps a better, new or even less expensive options in regards to food or health for my pup. I absolutely love this place and even if I didn't live close by to this store I would travel to go just here!

I LOVE MODERN PET! I remember that day, i just got my dog and he was so picky. He wouldn't eat anything and i was so worried. I was actually in UPS next door trying to send some stuffs, ran to Modern Pet to borrow some tapes LOL. The guy in Modern Pet was sooo friendly, helped me tape my package. And then I told him about my dog 's pickiness. He gave me bunch of food samples. My dog LOVES it. I was relieved! Till now,my boy is still eating Stella n Chewy ! The owner here is super friendly. They close at 8pm but he always willing to stay later for us to get food for my boi. He always give us honest advices! We live in Manhattan but always come here to EVERYTHING For my dog! I feel like this is my boi's second home haha.
