Very disappointed, after reading the website I went in person to try to make an appointment and got turned away because of the weight of my dog. I have NEVER experienced a dog grooming place to turn away a dog for the weight. This was an inconvenience as they should state that in their website. My dog Toby had a bad experience at our last groomer before our move to Astoria, who cut him so deep that he needed surgery. My husband called yesterday to make an appointment for a nail trim for our 10 lb chihuahua. He TOLD the person answering the phone that the dog can be a little aggressive, and a muzzle might be necessary. They told him we'd have to wait until 5PM today for an appointment to accommodate a more difficult dog. Fast-forward to today at 5PM and my husband said they refused to help. First they said they couldn't take the dog because he's a biter (???? we said this on the phone YESTERDAY, it isn't news???). Then my husband said, what if I help and hold him? Still, they refused and said they can't allow that. ???? It's a 10 lb dog who's missing half his teeth. There are animal lovers, and then there's this place. Miranda is an amazing groomer who we can trust with our spoiled Maltipoo Louie. She makes sure you are up to date with your pups vaccines and is super loving with our pup. Louie loves her and gets so excited to see her. I know he is in good hands. I've heard of crazy horrible grooming experiences so I was soo scared. We were recommended by two Yorkies we met at Petco and don't regret it. I know how some groomers give calming aids to pups without even telling their owner just to make grooming easier for them and the dog gets sick. I just got home with our little guy, Mojo, looking dapper and smelling great, after an hour spent with Miranda, and I cannot say enough good things about her and her work. Although we've been using Miranda for over a year now, I hadn't got around to writing a review! We make the trek from the 30th Ave area up to Ditmars, even though Mojo hates the car, because we know she is top notch and he'll be well cared for. Our old, anxious guy, does great and always comes home looking great. She does exactly what we ask for and he comes home better off. His fur is soft and fluffy, he smells nice, his breath is 10x better than it was, and his nails are no longer weapons. Also, she has great rates that don't break the bank. Okay, so any groomer worth their salt should know that you NEVER, EVER shave a pomeranian as their hair will not grow back properly. I dropped off my pup there for the first time and specifically told them to do a light trim to fluff him up... When I picked up my dog he was shaved unevenly. The worst part is when I got home and contacted them there was no reply, no apology, nothing. For $70 for a 5 pound puppy, I am disgusted at their lack of knowledge and respect for customers. I just brought home a rescued Shih Tzu, and was overwhelmed by all the help he needed from vet care to grooming, not to mention my worries on how he would do adjusting to an entirely new life in the city. I spoke with Miranda even before I brought him home, and she helped me figure out what steps needed to be taken and in what order so that my new buddy would get all the care he needed. She was so kind and thoughtful on the phone, there was no question in my mind that when it came time to get him groomed I would take him to her. His first appointment was today, and I suspect it was his first experience at the groomer, so I was nervous about how he would do. When I brought him in, she listened to my concerns and assured me she would take it slow with him. When I picked him up 2 hours later he looked like a brand new dog! She said he was so good, enjoyed his bath and handled everything like a champ! He walked out of her salon literally strutting, my heart nearly exploded. Any groomer can give a dog a haircut, but it takes a very special person to make a dog feel good about himself, and she did that for him. Over the ten years that I've had my teacup yorkies, I have experienced everything from OK grooming to over zealous shaving, but never ever, have I had PERFECTION; well, Miranda gave my babies PERFECT, DETAILED CUTS and NAILS THAT WERE FILED, so you don't feel crude edges!!!! I am not exaggerating; MIRANDA is a MASTER GROOMER / STYLIST!!!! Lucky me, I live a few blocks from Bubbles & Biscuits. When it opened, I had it in mind to give it a try, but I was using a mobile service that was very quick, and I liked not having to leave my doggies for hours in cages. The mobile service had a brand new van and the groomer as I said, was quick, however, I would have to wait about a month before my doggies looked somewhat cute. The last time I called the mobile groomer, I was told they would only be servicing Long Island. I started thinking of all the places we tried over the years, and I started to worry, until I looked at the ad for Bubbles & Biscuits and saw a picture of Miranda. The one and only review was great, and I started to feel hopeful. Miranda's picture alone, gave me a good feeling, and so i called and set up my appointment. I didn't bother mentioning the nails, BUT SHE FILED THEM BEAUTIFULLY!!!! Now I can hug my doggies on my chest and not get scratched!!!! I didn't bother mentioning that one of my yorkie's ears usually have a lot of wax, BUT SHE TOLD ME INSTEAD, WHICH MEANS SHE PAID DETAILED ATTENTION TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS!!!!
