I would give it ZERO stars if it was possible. They need to make the store and the grooming situation more cohesive. I had been going to their groomer Jessica when she had her own place in Whitestone called "See Spot Grooming" and was relatively satisfied. My dog liked her, but I don't think it's very professional to ask me to lay down on the fur-covered floor in my work suit to hold my dog so she can clip his nails. I was put to work every time I went there, yet I was charged for the service. Bad business!
Then when See Spot failed and closed (an obvious red flag I overlooked for comfort and convenience) she started working in the basement of Modern Pet.
WHAT A NIGHTMARE! The basement area is almost inaccessible with a big dog, with rickety narrow steps so steep, that we actually had to walk all the way around to the back entrance and go through that way.
When we were finally in, I was HORRIFIED. The upstairs of Modern Pet is well manicured and taken care of, but the basement is another story. There were garbage bags taped to the ceiling to hide a hoarded mess of overstock and junk.
The "grooming room" is not ventilated AT ALL and it wreaked of chemicals and shampoos and wet dog. It was also at least 20 degrees hotter in there, with no possible way to get fresh air in this modular looking thrown together room. Very dangerous conditions for any animal.
I was so uncomfortable, but I was already there, and my dog knew Jessica the groomer, so I sucked it up and let her take care of him.
Well, take care of him she DID NOT. when I arrived to pick him up, the floor was covered in fur that was not my dogs, and my dog was just roaming free in this dangerous hoarded basement. He was still wet, his nails were poorly clipped (if they were clipped at all) and the groomer just handed me the leash and told us to go upstairs. Completely rude and dismissive. It was DISGUSTING down there. Don't let the upstairs fool you!
The next time I tried to bring my dog there, I made an appointment for 245 with some kid at the front desk upstairs. Took the time off work, set everything up. I didn't want to go back AT ALL, but I figured I'd give it a second chance. HUGE MISTAKE!!! HUGE!!!
At 1pm I get a nasty voice mail from the groomer telling me I'm late for my appointment (which was at 245) The groomer again was rude and dismissive, and said too bad, she can't take care of my dog that day, and hung up on me. When I called back she said she has nothing to do with the appts, and there's nothing she could do. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
She wasn't even willing to accommodate me in ANY way, and didn't even care that she had a very dissatisfied customer. (Maybe this is why her business failed in the first place)
To top it all off, when I said I was going to write this review, she threatened to sue me for harassment and defamation!!! Who runs a business on bad scheduling, no accountability, and THREATS OF LEGAL ACTION?!?!
TO SUM IT ALL UP.....NEVER EVER EVER EVER TAKE YOUR BELOVED PET TO BE GROOMED BY JESSICA. IT IS FILTHY, NOT PROPERLY VENTILATED, DANGEROUS, AND THE GROOMER IS CRETINOUS, SCREWING OVER CUSTOMERS, AND THEN THREATENING TO SUE THEM!!!
There are a million reputable places in the area for grooming (Petco, new Hyde bark, doggie be good, pet menu, etc) that would never treat a customer this way.
