say no but when I got home, the jacket I bought my dog did not fit. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to go back to until today but I also thought I had no time limit. Of course, the manager tells me they have a very strict return policy apparently. The type of jacket was still offered at the store and I even found the size I needed. I asked the manager if I can just do an even exchange and she still refused. It would be nice if they warned us about the return policy or simply just always give us the receipt so we are aware of the store policies. I refuse to shop here again. It was very unreasonable, especially since the jacket still had the tag and was in great condition. read more

I recently began shopping at Modern Pet and I am honestly as happy as can be. First and foremost, the staff is extremely helpful. As someone who spent a few years in the hospitality industry, I am able to determine the difference between a fake smile in the workplace and a genuine interest and passion for serving customers in a place of business. The staff here represent the latter. The owner is very friendly and involved. He and the staff helped me pick the perfect foods for my rescue, Diego. (We started getting him the prairie blend dry food by Acana and Hound & Gatos for the wet food). Shopping here is truly a pleasure. The prices are extremely fair and the abundance of parking makes it simple to pass by weekly to grab miscellaneous cans of food or a new toy. Every single person in this place is amazing and some of the nicest people ever!! The minute you walk in, you're like, "Wow, this is really nice!" It's clean and spacious and they have beds and cat towers, and doggie clothing....The owners are super knowledgeable and very helpful in helping you find the finest products for your fur-babies! Sophia has helped me with several issues I was having with a new black lab mix puppy we adopted and everything that she (and Anthony and Sean) have ever suggested, has been spot on and worked. It is such a huge pleasure to have a real pet store in Bayside again and not a chain store. The prices are better than or same as the "chain stores" for toys and treats, and they carry top of the line food for your doggies or kitties. Stay Away! Rather than a happy well-groomed pet, my dog, Trixie, ended up with ten stitches and I ended up with a $645 vet bill after I took her to Modern Pet. They cut her skin deeply 24 minutes into her appointment and called me to hurry over and rush her to the vet. After the vet stopped the bleeding and stitched her up I went back to the groomer with the bill. The owner, Shawn, didn't ask how she was doing and refused to take any responsibility for my Trixie's injury. I said I would write a review sharing my experience and he rudely said, "Go ahead. I don't care as long as you tell the truth" So here I am- telling the truth. If you care about your dog's well being you will stay far away from this place. read more

I started coming here when Petco stopped carrying the frozen raw rabbit for dogs by Nature's Instinct . I called before the first time I went there to see if it was in stock and they were able to have it in the store within the next 2 days . Since then, I have also tried the frozen Stella and Chewy raw food which my dog likes as well . I find the employees to be very welcoming and helpful and I really appreciate the large variety of raw frozen food . I got to the store about 5 minutes after closing and the front door was already locked. However, the staff were inside cleaning up for the day and I knocked on the front door and asked if I could make a purchase. They unlock the door, I bought my dog food and I was out in a few minutes. This, ladies and gentlemen is customer service. They could have said "no sorry we're closed for the day bye". But they didnt. The groomer is a very talented young women who treats the dogs with respect. If you bring your dog into grooming, your dog will NOT be placed in a cage what so ever. All the food products in the store are healthy because the staff refuses to sell unhealthy food in the store. Modern Pet also does special orders. If they don't have something that you want, just tell them what you want and they'll do their best to get you that product. This ranges to gates,crates,leashes,foods,harnesses, and etc. When you walk into the store, you'll be treated as family. And the Modern Pet family is one that you'll be happy to be a part of because your worries for your pet living an unhealthy life will be over. And I've checked out the 1 star reviews for this place and the only thing I wish to say is that some people have a "little" too much time on their hands and feel like they're always entitled to something. No matter how many different foods and combinations we have tried, Sean and his staff have always been accommodating and willing to above and beyond to help me with any questions I might have. All I can say is WOW!! I've been coming to this store for a few weeks now.. the staff is very friendly. Today I had the pleasure of meeting the owner. He was so helpful.. EXTREMELY knowledgeable. I had a bunch of questions regarding food options for my puppy (who is a rescue and is having trouble with his digestion). He took the time to explain so much to me. He showed me several different options, he gave me the Pros and Cons of each food. He made specific suggestions based on my concerns. He was very informative when it came to ingredients as well. Upon recommendation of the owner, I purchased a flea and tick product for my dog. The morning after application, it was evident that my dog was in toxic shock. I immediately phoned the store to inform the owner Sean of the issue and urge him to remove the product from the shelf. While he first appeared to sound sympathetic, I arrived at the store several hours later to find the product still for sale. I approached Sean to discuss my disappointment, and his true colors popped right out. Obviously Sean has anger management issues, which was evident when is face turned red and he proceeded to call me a "LITTLE B*TCH" while his store was full of customers. He obviously has no care for his customers or the community he serves. My dog spent 4 nights in the hospital, and accumulated over $4,000 of medical bills. I've already retained and attorney, and plan to pursue this to the end. I urge anyone in the nieghborhood to immediately cease doing business with such a heartless and irresponsible owner. read more

I add my voice to the chorus of kudos for this wonderful pet shop. Can you imagine, they actually called me to discuss a food they didn't happen to have in stock the day I went. It's a bit of a drive from my house but I wouldn't dream of going any place else for my dog supplies. I truly appreciate their kindness , friendliness and knowledge and contrary to what a few posters said, I don't find their prices over the top, and the quality of their products is pretty high. I must exert great control to not buy any more winter clothes for my little guy. (He's a Yorkie ok? So he must be kept warm in cold weather) We need more stores of this caliber in this city! read more
