I've tried a lot of nail places in Broad Ripple just to avoid having to wait too long at any particular one but Modern Nails is quite possibly the worst nail salon I've ever been to. Did they get us in immediately? Yes. We soaked in those tubs for over 30 minutes before anyone came over to actually do our nails. They actually forgot about my friend so much so that the water in her tub overflowed because they forgot to turn it off. There were two other girls who came in shortly after we did who they also sat in the pedicure chairs. After sitting their for almost 40 minutes, they just dried off their feet and left because they couldn't wait anymore. My friend and I had planned on getting manis and pedis but seeing how long the process was taking, we nixed the manis. The staff wasn't all that friendly compared to other places I've been and they didn't even apologize for the long wait. I noticed this morning that after all that, they didn't even do that great of a job in that they still got nail polish on my skin. Also, their dryers weren't that great and even though we let our nails dry for about 12 minutes each, one of my toes still got messed us. We will not be going there again. read more

Found my nail salon! Probably one of the best gel manicures I've had in awhile. I don't love that they seem to automatically seem to reach for the grinder (not the official name for that, I know) and I had to ask her to use just a regular file to rough up my bare nails to smooth out my nail beds. No worries though. They had a ton of colors, and everything seemed very clean. Nin does excellent work - very meticulous. read more

My family and i have been coming here for about 6 months and have always loved it despite the fact that they are slow The staff has always done a good job with nails and they have a good selection of nail color choices so to us it's been worth it. We come every 2 weeks and typically spend about $195 sometimes more, including tip. We came in Wednesday night 11/08/17 and got pedicures and fill ins. Thursday morning 11/09/17 my nail broke, literally while i was sitting on the floor on my phone. i was to busy Thursday so i said i would go today (11/10/17). i get there this morning at 9:31, they open at 9:30am. The owner proceeds to tell me that it's $6 to fix my nail and that it was my fault that my nail broke. i said "excuse me" shocked that she had the audacity to tell me a broken nail less than 24 hours later was my fault and she repeated it. She then says i have long nails so it's my fault. I've had long nails for as long as I've been coming there and this is my first broken nail, so that makes zero sense and this set of nails are the shortest I've ever had since being there.. i said thank you for saying that and left. i sat in my car and felt like I needed to go back in and let her know that she lost business based off that and that's what i did. i walked in and told her that it wasn't about the $6 but the principle, for my family to be regulars every 2 weeks she could have easily ate that $6 because in 2 weeks we would have been right back spending more money and in 2 more weeks and thus fourth. She kind of shook her head as if she didn't care and that's fine. Just as long as she remembers when we no longer show up that she lost business over $6. My family will never return here and i will post this review everywhere. read more

Good pedicure with a relaxing exfoliating massage....and a nice hot stone massage which was two stones to begin with on the lower legs...when those cooled a bit they were placed under my feet and two more stones were employed for an additional couple of minutes. I've only been to Modern Nails to get my eye brows done. The employee gets the job done quick and easy. The only part I absolutely don't like about the experience is that you have to sit in a chair up at the front of the place where the whole world can see you getting your eye brows waxed. I'm not really a fan on the atmosphere...they could jazz up the place with some color. I do however want to go back and try a mani/pedi. I'm alway looking for new places to try read more

DO NOT GO HERE EVER. If I could give this nail salon less than one star I completely would. This was my third time visiting and I live more than twenty minutes away but I thought I found a new salon I liked, I was mistaken. I waited for 45 min to an hour but I found a style on Pinterest I was excited to try so it wasn't a big deal for me. The person I usually go too was not there and the chair I sat in was for an older lady with shorter hair. The summer style I wanted for my vacation required every nail to be a different color and I found 9 colors but asked for her assistance with finding the last one which I guess she found annoying? She then proceeds to tell me that if $5 extra for my "regular polish" colors and extra charges because she had to cut some down. I called my friend because I found that unusual and she said nobody does that and she was just being rude and trying to charge me. After my phone call she had already cut down my nail she went on to say "I don't want to do them you can go somewhere else". I replied ok that's fine but you already cut my nail down (which looked CRAZY) so if you could fix that. She then slapped acrylic down on my nail which the next nail place had trouble fixing. I have been going to see Nana and Paul at Modern Nails for a little over two years, and I don't even think about going elsewhere. They treat you like family, and they do an impeccable job. Nana converted me to shellac nails about a year ago, and I'm a proud convert -- with shellac, my nails last nearly an entire month and look so good people sometimes mistake them for acrylic nails. Thanks to Nana, I've actually been able to get my nails in much better condition...and occasionally, she'll notice I need my eyebrows done (I wouldn't notice), and she'll just throw that in on the house. One of the best parts of the Modern Nail experience (aside from just their attention to detail and genuine kindness) is the hot stone massages. My stepmom and I stumbled upon this place during a search on Yelp, and were pleasantly surprised. To say service was wonderful would be an understatement. We were able to relax and let the pros do their thing. As we sat back and enjoyed a chair massage, our feet were soaked, nails trimmed, filed, painted and legs rubbed down with lotion. My pedicure lasted for weeks, probably even longer than I should have let it. I have not, as of yet, found another place in the area that can do the same. If in the Broad Ripple area, or even within a 10-mile radius, this place is well worth the time/money/drive. read more

This isn't the best place to go but it gets the job done. They are slow but they do do a decent job. One thing that I'm not a fan of is the use of a power tool when getting a pedicure. I had to ask them to stop because it was painful. Also when trimming my cuticles the nail tech cut too much which resulted in a lot of blood. Nan and Paul are good spirited and talk to you during your visit instead of just with each other - my experience in other salons. They are both very funny. It's just the two of them in the salon so on busier days you should expect a wait; however, they are very efficient so the wait won't be long. I enjoy having pedicures, gel manicures, and a painless eyebrow wax every few weeks. I bring my teenaged daughter (sometimes her friends) with me too - we all love the hot stone massages!!! Went here bc place across the street was too busy. I regret this. Came in at same time as another lady and she didn't get served right away. My technician was walking around without a mask. I then asked her if she had one. She eventually got around to finding one to wear but then about 10 min into it she pulled it down around her chin. Her dress was very short- almost like wearing a tight pajama T-shirt. When she sat down on the stool to do my pedicure, I got a full view of her crotch, and she wasn't wearing underwear. The polish I picked was clumpy and thick so it didn't go on smooth. I will give her credit for making the best of it but she could have had me pick another color. They use the same tools without sterilization. Overall I felt that they did not use good practice to decrease risk of Covid-19 exposure. I shouldn't have gone. Now I regret it. read more

I was looking for a new nail salon. Friendly people, good work but...THEY are SO EXPENSIVE compared to other salons. They charge $15 extra for gel polish and they ask before using the razor on your feet...but it's $5 extra! It cost me $70 for my mani/pedi and eyebrow wax and in 10 years I've never paid more than $58-60 for all of that. Their price sheet is tiny and taped to the checkout counter. read more

I love this nail shop and the staff is funny, warm and welcoming. I have taken my dad and daughters here to get pedicures and have always been satisfied. The technician was very diligent and my nails look fine, I wasn't thrilled with how much dead skin was taken care of during the pedi, but normally I would let that go. My rating is based on cleanliness - I was completely skeeved out by the time I left. I watched multiple employees "clean" the pedicure basins with a toilet brush and no noticeable cleaning solution. No bleach or sanitizing used for tools or stations. Then, while I was getting my mani, there were nail dust and clippings all over the station. A friend and I called this nail salon to ask how long the wait would be for our manicures and pedicures, and we were told they could get us in right away. After arriving ten minutes after we called, we proceeded to wait TWO HOURS for someone to start our nails. My friend was sitting in a pedicure chair with her feet in water that whole time, and she was freezing by the time her pedicure was started. During the 2 hour wait, my nails were wrapped in foil with an acetone-soaked cotton ball underneath. They started hurting very badly, so I took the foil off myself and scraped off the gel polish. Because the acetone was on for so long, my nails are now peeling off in layers. No one seemed to care about any of this the whole time we waited. Terrible service!! read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon and the customer service was dismal at best. There were two people working with three customers in chairs and three more waiting. After waiting some time, I was shown to a seat. I was left waiting there with my hands in acetone for ~15 minutes removing my gel polish (the usual amount of time is ~5 minutes). The technician finally came over and seemed to rush through the whole manicure. She also made my cuticles bleed when she was cleaning them with her metal tools. I was recommended Modern Nails by a friend of mine who had similar nightmare experiences with incorrect nail procedures. I had my nails done elsewhere and after two rounds of gel polish, the nail tech ripping the polish off and filing the remainder off (NEVER the right way to remove gel polish), my nails were ruined. I am a training cosmetologist, which means my hands are constantly wet and my nails were breaking all the time. I now come here for a overlay on my natural nail to reinforce them, and I am always impressed by how professional and knowledgeable all of the employees are. So incredibly thorough, detail oriented, friendly and they will never try to swindle you into unnecessary services. Every employee here is very good at what they do, and I never request anyone specific because I never have to worry about the quality of their work..Very fairly priced and incredible service!! read more

Honestly, I didn't like the staff at all the first time I went, but it was NYE so they were probably busy all day and just not in good moods- not an excuse, but it happens. I got gel nails about 3 weeks ago and they still look good as new. I have never had gel polish stay on this long. I went to one of the men who works there ( I think his name was ken ) . The best thing about this place is their massage chairs. The only reason I didn't go to my regular place is because I needed a manicure and pedicure after returning from a camping trip. I wish I would have waited until my return to CA. My nails were already shaped all they needed was to be cleaned and painted, however, the technician didn't remove the nail polish properly and the nail polish had so many streaks, and she didn't fully cover the nail with nail polish. If anyone would see my nails they would think I haven't gotten a manicure in ages. My pedicure was also pretty bad, I still have calluses, my toe nails are all clipped at different length and not completely painted. Also, the nail polish from my toes looks like my toes are dirty because the previous nail color was dark and the technician failed to remove it properly. The technician rushed my manicure because they were getting busy; before she painted the last nail polish coat and top coat she had already moved me to the drying area. She didn't speak to me at all during the process, didn't even introduced herself or give me the option to pick my nail polish color. read more

I have been on a quest for a good nail salon for a few weeks but, um, after a trip to Modern Nails, I guess I will have to keep looking. They do not take reservations, so I was a walk-in. The owner rushed through things so much, it was ridiculous -- a full pedi and a gel manicure in less than 45 minutes. Although the hot stone application felt good, she did not put any hand cream or moisturizer on me, and nothing at all on my cuticles! The polish on one toenail got nicked and all she did was lean over and swipe an exra blob on it from a standing position at the cash register. My fingernails were clipped slapdash and were not filed properly, the polish lines weren't very straight or close to the cuticles, and when I got in the car, I realized she had not put the alcohol finisher on the nails of one hand and they were soft, and so I had to go back in. The worst thing was that she didn't listen to my requests, simple as they were. She just kept telling me to trust her, that she knew better than me how I should look. I didn't even get the same color I had picked out! Very frustrating. read more
