Chicken Tendern Benedict
Christopher J.

I haven't been to Modern Malt in FOREVER and stopped in for brunch while waiting for my flight to stop being delayed. We started with a carafe of mimosa and then got a couple brunch entrees. I ordered the Chicken Tender Benedict and my friend ordered the Breakfast Poutine. My entree was absolutely delicious. I got it with tater tots - because why not! I asked for them to be extra crispy and they came out exactly the way I asked. My friend loved her dish. She was absolutely full and couldn't finish it. The only knock is on our server not doing a lap and checking in at all. I wanted some dipping sauce for my tater tots and didn't get it until I was almost done with my meal. If I didn't flag her down I'm sure I wouldn't have seen her until we were ready for the check. Either way happy to be there. The place was very clean and pretty quiet around 930AM on a Saturday. Would definitely come back when I'm in town again.

an omelet and fries on a plate

Went to try out the new Modern Malt location for a lake breakfast/early lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant it's self is ok, it's in a large open room with booths and tables. There is also a small bar. Food I believe is the same as the downtown location. My husband got the Loot (fried chicken Benedict on biscuit served with side of potatoes and I got the houvous ranchero omelet. My husband loved his food and taught it was very flavorful. I liked my omelet and the potatoes. Omelet was suppose to come with toast (options for toast are white, wheat, and rye; I chose white) but was missing when the meal arrived. I don't care much for toast so I didn't say anything. You can add pancakes to any meal for $4, so my husband added chocolate chip pancakes; these were really good. Alcohol is served here both beer and liquor. There are several specialty drinks. The reason for the 4 star review is: no toast with meal and plate was dirty when dropped off at table (see picture below) but the reason for the mess on the plate was the stuffing of the omelet. Worth a visit if looking for breakfast in the area.

What Came First Sandwich

This was my first time at modern malt and I was not impressed. The atmosphere is cool and everything was clean. The service was alright. We saw our waiter three times and then it took 10 minutes to get our check. I had to ask for it. The food.... I was not thrilled with. I got a fried chicken sandwich with scrambled egg, chipotle aioli sauce and cheddar cheese. But it basically was cheddar cheese with some chicken and egg and I couldn't taste the sauce. The chicken was tender but very greasy. The cheddar cheese was just so overwhelming! I had a side of tater tots that were not as crispy as they looked and also very greasy. I wouldn't be opposed to going back and trying something else like the pancakes or a breakfast dish but I honestly probably won't and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

This place was really good. Went at 1pm only 8 other people in the restaurant. Music isn't to loud. Food is great, service was kind and prompt.

This was a nice, chill breakfast spot! Our waiter was very attentive and kind, and the food was very filling. It was very loud when we came and tons of kids, but I didnt mind that. I wasnt in love with my lott benedict because it was a little dry, but it was good enough!

Tater Tots

We went here for the first time for lunch on a Monday afternoon, greeted immediately with a smile and sat in a booth. Our waitress acknowledged us to let us know she'd be there shortly. Restaurant clean, bright and comfortable. Ordered Bloody Marylands to start (delicious) couldn't decide between 3 items, waitress was knowledgeable about all items so I decided on General Tso's waffles my husband ordered Short rib Patty melt. First bite my husband said "  That's real friggin good "  will skip the powdered sugar on the waffles next time made it too sweet . Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Will be back!

Meat Lovers Bowl

Definitely enjoyed not having to go to the city for once to get a "fancy/aesthetically pleasing" brunch! We enjoyed our first visit here, and this will likely be our go to brunch place based on the location alone. The prices were a little on the high end, but pretty standard for restaurants like this especially during the pandemic. We got the meat lovers breakfast bowl, which wasn't as great as we had hoped, it was a little bland for our liking. The totchos were fabulous; the queso was phenomenal and the dish overall was really appetizing. The Oreo Stuffed French Toast.... just like the menu said "yes, it's as good as it sounds." My only gripe with the Oreo French toast was that it needed to be cooked longer/more thorough. The filling definitely doesn't taste bad cold, but the bread only had a few warm spots and was otherwise a little chilled/room temp which I wasn't really loving. It is obviously premade so that it stays together in the stack but the execution of how it is actually served to the table needs a little work. The flight wasn't bad, we didn't love all the flavors but there wasn't a ton of options that really peaked our interest so we played it safe with four berry-flavored ones. Overall the staff was friendly and it was a nice treat, but something about $84 for brunch for 3 adults just doesn't sit right with me no matter how pretty it is lol

Unusual menu, with a lot of specialty item. Some of the items seem a little pricey but decent food.

Pretty Awesome! Great food! Service was a bit slow, but due to Covid and staffing issues I completely understand.

Sammy's NYC Deli and Grill opens early & stays open late. (6 AM during the week/8 AM on the weekend. 10 PM or later every night.) Looking for a quick bite with variety and generous servings? Sammy's NYC Deli delivers on the essentials. The name pays homage to the Big Apple, (where the owner has two other deli establishments) but doesn't have typical New York City prices, crowds, or rushed NYC edge! Instead, you're greeted by genuinely friendly staff eager to help with the ordering. Sammy's seems to operate primarily as a high-volume takeout spot, perfectly suited for grabbing a quick, freshly made lunch on the go. The team working the grill & fryer moves fast, making it a reliable pick when you need quick service without sacrificing quality. Here is what really stands out: The serving sizes are generous across the board. You definitely get your money's worth, making the overall value hard to beat. My Italian sub was so large, it was lunch for two days in a row. It came with 6 chicken wings in the flavor of my choice. The garlic parm were very tasty, but just a bit bready. Another item ordered was a double Smashburger and it was excellent! Came with lots of melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, crispy french fries and a soda for around $20. The menu spans a wide array of options, so whether you're in the mood for a packed deli sandwich, a warm hot dish, a salad, or even breakfast , everything tastes fresh and is made-to-order. If there is one area that could use a little streamlining, it's the number of combo specials, which can be a little confusing. Trimming down or simplifying those descriptions would make ordering even smoother. All in all, Sammy's NYC Deli is a great Main St., North Syracuse spot for takeout (or DoorDash, GrubHub or Uber eats ) top-tier friendliness, huge fresh portions, and great value that leaves both your wallet and your appetite satisfied.

When my partner and I walked in, we were greeted by a man at the counter and mentioned it was our first time visiting. His response was about as uninterested as it gets. Instead of offering a menu or any guidance, he simply pointed off to the side and told us to order when we were ready. Not exactly a welcoming first impression. The space itself was small, with a few tables, drink coolers, baked goods, and smoothie options. After placing our order, we waited...and waited. After exactly 40 minutes, I finally asked about the status, especially after watching another couple come in after us, order, and leave with their food before we received ours. I understand that takeout and delivery orders are part of the business, but in-house customers should not be completely overlooked. There was no communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to acknowledge the delay. It genuinely felt like we didn't matter as customers. And for what? Two sandwiches--a roast beef and a turkey. Having worked in restaurants myself, I can confidently say that should not take 40 minutes under normal circumstances. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough to warrant one. We will not be returning. Save yourself the time and look elsewhere.

I do see a lot of negative…read morereviews are from long wait times but I went on a Tuesday morning so that could be why my review is rated much higher because I had no wait time to be seated and the food came out pretty quickly. Rise N Shine has such cute decor! I love the entrance and the overall aesthetic. The restaurant uses a QR code menu just FYI. There's also a parking lot which seemed like it would get full quickly if on a busier day. Our waitress was Karen (?) and she was very sweet. We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken and waffles (without gravy cause they ran out) and the Basic "B" with an extra side of hash brows. The chicken and waffles was pretty tasty! The waffles were light and airy and the chicken was moist with a nice crunch. I'm not sure how the gravy would've affected the texture but it was definitely delicious without it. The Basic B was standard, the bacon was apple smoked and thick. The pancakes were yummy, they came with a cinnamon butter which was perfect for the pancakes. And the hash browns were nice and crispy. Overall I really enjoyed trying this place out as it has been on my list! I will definitely come back again!

It was quite good. Every single thing we got. We came into it thinking it was going to be more of an "experience" place with novelty dishes, but they were all delicious. Pancake flight, pancake sushi, bacon, flaming French toast, BYO omelet. ALL. EXCELLENT. Massive portions. Almost everyone leaves with leftovers. Very much worth the price, so a huge win.
