Arm and friendly atmosphere we were pleasantly and quickly greeted from the bar by the barmaid also waitress with a full bar and full tables after we sat in a booth by the window. She was very cheerful and attentive throughout the meal. Lighting is comfortably soft and classic rock played in the background loud enough to hear but not drown out conversation. On the recommendations of many here on where Syracuse eats, we decided on lunch at Eagle Tavern. Great spot! First we started off with the bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with cheese and sausage. Tasty and unique! For entrees, Marge had the French dip and I had the grilled chicken club sandwich with pesto. These are not your ordinary run of the mill sandwiches. Both packed a lot of flavors, and raised the bar from the norm. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere with 5 big tvs and sports being broadcasted. A bunch of us descended upon the Eagle tavern. Monday night for a friendly get together. Every so often you're hunkering for something certain to eat and tonight that something was chicken wings. Super friendly bartender was doing it all this night. The place was packed and she kept her cool and got things done. After getting some chicken wing options I settled on the honey ones. I did not know that they included garlic but that was fine and they were super tasty. I have been here a few times before and my husband LOVES their burgers and their sweet potato fries are amazing! However, this time the food wasn't as great as we remembered. My husband said his burger was okay and not the same. Same with the sweet potato fries... it also came out without the dipping syrup. But this time I got the boom boom shrimp wrap and it was AMAZING! It was spicy but not overwhelming and it was so good! The service was good. She only came to our table once when the food came out so I had to wait until the end of my meal to get another drink. But the chef did bring out another thing or chicken tenders since the first batch was a little burnt and my toddler was a little picky with the burnt chicken. The place is a bar so it's not a really good place to go with a family because it's small and doesn't have a ton of seating but again it's a bar not really a restaurant. I heard that this place opened again under new management and I had to give it a try! The bartender Mike greeted us (with my friends for our weekly lunch) warmly and seated us. Mike was also our server and he was very attentive for having to cover the bar and the tables. The place is small but it was not noisy. The menu is small for lunch (copy in photo) but had some nice choices. I went for the blue cheese burger and instead of fries I got a side salad. The burger was very tasty and the side salad was huge with spring mix lettuce which I like much better than just iceberg lettuce. My friends also were pleased with their lunches. So glad we found this hidden gem. Greeted by Brandi, who continued providing exceptional service. Homemade soup of the day was excellent. Sausage with goodies see picture. The food was great! This is very much a bar, though, with some tables and a great menu. The service was very good.

I went there with my son looking forward to a couple of burgers for the two of us. The waitress said they were out because of a large party that had come in. Very disappointed. My son ordered a turkey sandwich and I ordered the corned beef. What a surprise! The corned beef was the best I have ever had and my son said the same thing about the turkey. The turkey was not cold cut but they had cooked the turkey. We would absolutely go back again our food was so delicious. read more

Don't let the strip plaza deter you, this is a great place. It's small, but food is great. Daily specials keep the menu fresh. Not a great spot for kids, but perfect for a casual date night. Bar tenders are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. read more

Eagle Tavern was fine. A cute little joint that I'm guessing is the kind of place where "everyone knows your name". More of a 3-star experience for me, but it's not them, it was me. I allowed my 16yo daughter to choose tonight's dining locale. She picked this place. Odd choice for a 16yo since it's a local bar, but I figured, they have food so what the heck? We're used to brewpub-type establishments. This wasn't that and I wasn't planning on a beer or cocktail anyway. I don't think this is the best choice for someone stopping in town briefly unless you truly want a "bar" experience. That said, my daughter really liked her pulled pork sandwich (The Eagle) with house made chips. My salad, The Orange, was good, too. I didn't even need the side of dressing it came with because of the balsamic glaze already on the chicken. So, like I said, if you only have one night in town, I'd suggest somewhere in the Armory area of downtown Syracuse... that area looked like it had more selection and a seemingly fun vibe. It's great for what it's meant to be: a place to get apps and standard beer and relax. There were older couples all sitting at the bar. I went in and say at a table and the waitress took the mentors l menus after we ordered 2 apps because she was used to that being all that was ordered. The fried cheese curds were fantastic in Buffalo sauce. The Buffalo tater tots were a little crumbly, almost wish I had a spoon instead of fork to eat them to get chicken and celery in the same bite. Service was fast and friendly. It's a great local spot to grab bar food and a drink, but there wasn't a list of mixed drinks or wines or anything, just basic choices. read more

Been here a couple times with friends. First time with just a couple people, and the last time with a larger birthday party. Good experiences both times. It's a very small tavern in a strip mall. You'd probably pass it if you didn't know, there's no sign from the street. Plenty of parking since it's in a strip mall. Both times I've gotten burgers. Both were very good. They have a decent sized menu, plenty to choose from. The burgers came with homemade chips, which are delicious. I'm not a drinker, but from the sounds of my friends, it seemed like they were out of a lot of stuff the last time. It was a busy Saturday night, so that could be the reason. Service is good. I believe I had the same server both times, and even though the second time was with a large party during a busy time, we were taken care of. Nicely decorated inside. Small, tight space though, so it can be tough to get around on a busy night. Nice little place. Definitely worth giving a try. read more

It might be the best burger I have ever had. It was slow cooked so every bite was red and delicious. Heinz ketchup bottle on every table. High quality big flat screen to watch the game. My husband and I have been twice now since finding this hidden gem very close to our neighborhood. Food is outstanding, I mean it's really, really good. Basic bar offerings and a little bit more, all made by a chef with talent. Britni was our server and also the bartender. For a Wednesday evening the place was hopping. Any other server/bartender with less experience and know-how would have been what we call in the business 'in the weeds'. Britni handled the crowd with professionalism and a positive attitude that proved to me she is in the right business. 4 stars because this place doesn't exactly do anything to blow me away, but has always been very good. My wife and I go here for a quick bite and a drink every once in a while. I hate to call it a "hole in the wall" because it's not a dump inside or anything, but you'd never know it was there since it's small and tucked away in a little plaza. The staff has been friendly and the service has been speedy in my experience. There's lots of good food on the menu but it's hard to go wrong with a burger and fries (the burgers are great and the fries are exceptional). read more

We found the Eagle Tavern on Yelp and had a family group of 8 on Saturday night meeting up in CNY. We were able to get seated right away along the benches next to the bar. Mercedes - our bartender / server was great - taking care of a round of drinks, then food and came over several times for refills and to make sure things were alright. I ordered the Nashville Chicken Sandwich which was huge and excellent. Lately I have been sampling Fried Chicken Sandwiches when dining out and this was crispy, moist and spicy. Fries were also very good - crispy and hot. BF ordered the Fried Haddock sandwich special which was about 10" long on a sub roll which was buttered and browned on the flat top. The haddock was very tasty. A great sandwich for $10! 3 folks in our group had the Fried Haddock Sandwich and 3 had Burgers which also got thumbs up. Ate lunch here yesterday and it was great! It is small so I can see it getting pretty crowded in the evening. We started with the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. My husband loved them, for me they were just ok. They are, however, packed with meat, peppers, and onions! For lunch I had the 'cuse sandwich: sliced beef on ciabatta served with au jus and horseradish sauce (I added provolone too). SO GOOD. The hubby had their version of a Cuban (can't remember the name). He thought it was great. He did comment that they use a honey mustard where he usually prefers a yellow or spicy mustard on that type of sandwich. We will be back. I've heard the burgers are really good too. read more

Best garlic pizza I've ever had. I ordered the "it is what it is" pizza and it was cooked to perfection! The bread was crispy but chewy, the cheese was melty but not too greasy, and the garlic flavor was subtle but definitely present. AMAZING! Would definitely order again. We also got the "sunrise burger" with the greens and it was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant. My husband and I stopped by around 8pm last night after reading positive Yelp reviews. It's so close to home, so convenient to work, so why not give it a try? We were not disappointed! It's a "seat yourself" type of place/bar, so we took a booth in the very back. It's small, but it wasn't crowded. A waitress promptly came to drop off menus and take our drink order. We were both beat, so no alcohol this time, but it looked like they had a nice tap list for the future. We started with the boneless wings. They were crispy and the mild sauce was buttery hot goodness. My husband got The Early Bird burger, smothered in a perfect over-easy egg and bacon. It was delicious, with a toasted bun to hold it all together. He substituted large crinkle cut steak fries for chips ($2 upcharge) and they were crisp and hot. I got It Is What It Is pizza, covered in copious amounts of cheese and garlic, and I was so happy. It was a perfect sized crispy flatbread, I ate half and brought half home. After all that, plus two soft drinks, our total was only $37. Reasonable prices, great service, cozy atmosphere. The only complaint I had (because I'm getting older, I assume) is that the music was so loud, my husband and I had to shout to have our conversation. But it's a bar, on a Thursday night, so that's what you would expect. At least they played a lot of classic rock! I'll definitely come back and try more things off the menu! read more

Our meal was missing items and nobody followed up to see if we needed anything else. When we flagged the bartender down the only response was a grunt. Someone dropped our bill off to our table and again, never asked if we needed anything or how our meal was. Overall rating is dismal at best. We felt like were invisible. Been here many times. Love the food. Sadly, it is quickly becoming just a noisy watering hole. A group at the bar was allowed to control the volume of the music and had it so loud you could not hear the person in the booth with you. Asked several times by the waitress and other patrons to turn it down. We ended up eating outside. Several others just left. A couple of folks got angry and very vocal. SKIP IT! PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! I was so excited when my fiance and I moved into our new home and had a bar close by. We could not have been more disappointed - it's not a bar - it's a frat house. Expect 20 somethings controlling an ipad for the music like they are in their own basement. Playing half a song, switching to a different one because someone grabbed it that wants something else. Music is already loud enough that you can't really sit and talk and get to know people - but to make it worse, the bartender had a microphone and was scream/singing all the songs she wanted to play on her personal jukebox. Was way more concerned with serving her friends and taking shots than circling the bar and waiting on other paying guests. We were there a short time and it was very clear this drunk bartender was not truly working. Went back to try another night, different bartender but exact same crowd. Still singing on the bar, bartender had zero control over it because the other girl "worked there". She was sympathetic but told us there is really nothing she can do because that group just does what they want. Leave this bar to it's AWFUL regulars - plenty of other bars to enjoy that might not be as close, but totally worth the drive. read more

Wow, pleasantly surprised. We stopped in on an early Saturday afternoon not sure about eating in a bar in a tiny strip mall. We went in thinking it was going to be a dirty dive bar, nervous about eating the food. We could not have been more wrong. The place was meticulously clean, and had extremely pleasing decor. That's just the atmosphere. We sat at the bar and received some of the best customer service we have had anywhere. I feel badly I forget the bartenders name, but he was perfectly attentive. Glasses were never empty, clutter was cleared immediately, and it had to be the fastest checkout when we were done. Great job. The food was delicious, we both got burgers and both were perfectly cooked. He got the house made chips which were good, and I got the house fries which were great. If you are on the fence about visiting this place then hop off it and head on down. It was a great meal, and a great environment. We will definitely be heading there again soon. read more
