I cannot believe I have not written a review for this place! First of all, I am in shock that a place like this exists in Omaha. And, my meat eating friends even like it. My first visit was at the old location. I had a Chicken fried steak, pureed rot veggies(think mashed potatoes, with gravy, and brussel sprouts that were cooked so perfectly, my taste buds were doing cartwheels. I couldn't believe it! The presentation was so well done I did not want to eat it! The home cooked, comfort meal took over my senses and i could not help myself. After that experience, every night I am in Omaha, I eat here or get take out. Our favorite vegan/vegetarian spot in Omaha. Highly recommend making a reservation if you are trying to dine in on the weekend. The ambiance there is amazing & I adore the social justice poster on the door. As of 7/11/22 the staff is still wearing masks, which I really appreciate. The food this time wasn't as amazing as it usually is but we picked up at 830pm so the cook may have just been tired. Fries - I'm a fry snob & prefer mine crispy; these are definitely for those who love softer fries. Will choose a different side next time. Sietan buffalo wings: definitely has some kick. Very dense & filling - could be an entree if eating alone. This was a first time getting for us & we prefer the cauliflower wings & would order those next times. Philly Steak Sandwich: meat eating boyfriend says that it really did taste like meat. Good bread, would possibly order again. Classic Mac & Shews: my standard order. The kale was perfect as always. Tofu tasted saltier than normal and the pasta wasn't cooked as much as it normally is and was kind of crispy. Guys. I am smitten with this place. I have been on a restricted diet for the last 7 months and vegan options tend to fit within my restrictions. The food at Modern Love is no joke. The server also made sure that they took into account all the ingredients I needed to avoid. If my last meal on earth was the crispy broccoli and the quesadilla, I would be so incredibly happy. I also ordered the Mac n cheese with "bacon" because I couldn't help myself. My husband had the beet Reuben, and although he hasn't been wild about vegan food, he was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't eating corned beef. We felt slightly awkward because our table happened to look right into the kitchen, but other than that we enjoyed the atmosphere. Modern Love is great for both vegans and non vegans! While everything on the menu is vegan, non vegans will love the food too. The meals are very filling and there are always specials and new items on the menu to look for. The crunch wrap is my favorite thing on the menu with a blueberry pop-tart for dessert! My sister, who never eats vegan alternatives, would be the last person to like the food here. However, the fettuccine has been her favorite item to bring home from carry-out. During the covid-19 pandemic Modern Love really stepped up on making sure guests are safe. Staff was always gloved and masked and the delivery was contactless as they would place it on the hood of your car. I've always enjoyed Modern Love but after seeing the extra precautions and care they show both the staff and their customers I appreciate the restaurant even more. read more

I'm not a cauliflower fan, but this was amazing. I wish that I could bottle the sauce. Secondary was the Modern Burger and fries which were wonderful. This was my first vegan meal on purpose and I was not disappointed. I had the mushroom stroganoff and my dinner companion and I shared the asparagus and the honey mustard cauliflower and we shared the carrot cake for dessert. The asparagus we cooked to perfection, they still had a nice crisp bite to them, but no rawness, they served with a pesto that was pretty good. It's not often that people get asparagus right, but Modern Love does. The Honey mustard cauliflower was A-mazing, I could have eaten just those. They were crispy and crunchy and flavorful and just plain darn good. I can't wait to go back and try the buffalo cauliflower wings. My main course was the mushroom stroganoff, it was creamy and flavorful and just plain tasty, I can't believe there was NO cream in it, my server said they use cashew milk. I think I'm about to quit 1/2 & 1/2 and start using cashew milk. It would have been amazing too, but I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, but I did still like it, I just didn't love it. Not Modern Love's fault, blame my tastebuds. The carrot cake was moist and tasty and l loved the not cream cheese frosting, but there was a bitter aftertaste I couldn't quite place. As a vegetarian who is lactose intolerant I LOVE modern love! I've been here tons of times and am the biggest fan of their happy hour when the food is very reasonably priced -- at other times it's still a great place with a lovely ambience but the food is a bit pricier especially for a young adult budget! The restaurant itself is a fun hip vibe that could also be great for a date night, or a girls night! My favorite dish is a toss up between the Roasted Brussels, Nachos Molo, or the Garlic "Parmesan" Cauliflower wings! I also always make sure to ask for the specials of the day because there is always something new! This time around we ended up getting the loaded baked potatoes which were stuffed with vegan chili, guacamole, and a few other things. Basically making them a little pocket of heaven. Honestly though you couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu! It's so much fun having a vegan and health conscious restaurant that makes quality food that packs tons of flavor. I went to Modern Love by myself after work one day. I was super hungry so I got the fried mozzarella and the seitan buffalo wings. This vegan restaurants mozzarella was cashew based and was really good. It had a creamy/different texture than you're use to with regular mozzarella sticks but they were so tasty I finished them all. Their ranch being dairy free was very good and the wings had an amazing taste. Obviously plant based/vegan food has a very different texture but it was all so amazing! I recommend eating here even if you aren't vegan. The decorations, furniture and paint on the walls are so fun. They also have beautiful plants all over! Go check it out. Support local! read more

Food was great and it was nice to find vegan food in Omaha. Unfortunately the front of house was really flailing - our server didn't write down our order and had to come back and ask us to order again. Then, he forgot to ring in half of what we had ordered, including our drinks, but nobody came to check on us until we were ready for the check. We had to refill our own waters because the waitstaff were spending an hour consoling a woman whose order they completely forgot to ring in, even though she had arrived before the dining room filled up. I could tell they were really struggling, because I heard similar experiences happening at the other tables. Luckily the bar tender saved the day and started running the show, but it was a pretty rough experience. I work in vegan restaurants as well, so I know it can be difficult to hire talented FOH staff, but I think the owner needs to make some serious staffing changes and soon. read more

We were so excited to find a vegan restaurant in Omaha. We are from CA so we are spoiled with the vegan options and never know if we'll find food we can eat when traveling. The employees were very nice. The place was cute and clean and modern. The food was good. We had the the Alfredo and added mushrooms, fried mushroom chicken, and the peanut butter candy bar cheesecake. All the food was heavy and dense and def didn't feel like health food but it was hearty, comfort food. I would prefer more salad and more veggies with the Alfredo. And the added $4 mushrooms were very minimal. I didn't like the dessert all that much but my partner loved it. I couldn't taste the peanut butter enough. It was more like chocolate fudge. It's quite pricey but the food is high quality and I know what goes into creating gourmet plant based meals. I love supporting vegan restaurants. read more

After wanting to visit this place for so long I have to say it was such a let down. Went during happy hour (Mon-Fri 04:00-5:30pm) to score some appetizers on special, but what I really went for was the pie. Unfortunately I cannot eat mushrooms, gluten, or dairy. I knew dairy wouldn't be an issue, but if you know anything about vegan food their meat substitutes are usually mushroom or gluten based. Modern love's food is no exception here. We showed up around 4:45pm to a mostly empty restaurant, which was cool. I'm a tiny bit annoyed that with all the space available they had to seat us in the tiny tables right next to a rather... interesting... couple, but I digress. I should mention that before even coming here I made the effort to call and ask what their current desserts were because I had a feeling their menu, which says it's from May, wasn't current. I was correct. However the rather snippy lady on the phone felt the need to tell me I should have checked their website first. I told her I did and that it was from May and basically none of the desserts were what you just told me. "did you check on your computer or your phone"..... both but like why would that matter? They go to the same file! This put a bad taste in my mouth before I even got there, but you know almost 8 months pregnant and I really wanted a piece of pie so I went anyways. We ordered the Nachos Molo, Peanut Cauliflower Wings, and the Snickers Pie. First came out the wings. Small portion, but maybe that was due to happy hour. They looked gorgeous and to their credit all the food I saw going by me looked amazing. I just wish it had tasted as good as it looked. The cauliflower was mostly raw on the inside, seriously, I felt like I was eating a raw hunk of cauliflower straight off the plant. The breading had a slight crisp to it and I mean slight. The flavor was supposed to be spicy and peanut but neither of us could get either flavor. I couldn't gag it down and my husband had to finish them. Next was the nachos. These were an improvement over the wings, but frankly I think anything would have been better than the wings. They smelled like meat which was weird to me. The cheese sauce tasted like mustard; we both agreed on that and pretty much asked each other at the same time if we thought it was mustard. I thought they were spicy and not in a good way. I could only finish 1/3rd of the tiny plate because they were hurting my stomach and they had the nastiest after taste which I STILL, nearly 5 hours later, cannot get out of my mouth. Finally I got my pie. Which I should say I asked for this pie when we got there and made it known to my waiter I wasn't getting anything else. Yet he felt the need to not bring it until my husband had finished his food and I was annoyed by that. Snickers pie... sure is pretty. Taste wise it's sugar... like pure sugar taste. Overwhelmingly sugar! Okay I get it folks, it's a dessert but a dessert needs flavor and this was just disappointing considering how pretty it was. I liked the coconut whip cream and the crust wasn't bad. The ganache had good flavor once you stripped away the other layers. Dissecting the pie really helped it taste better but it was WAY too sweet. As I mentioned earlier I can't eat gluten so I was cautious in ordering my food. I wanted a shake, but noticed they didn't have a (gf) symbol next to them. I asked my waiter if they had gluten in them. He said "I don't think so since it's only ice cream".... well I'm the annoying person who asked him if he would please ask the kitchen to verify since I can't eat gluten. He comes back and says the only one they aren't sure of was the chocolate because of the malt powder, they aren't sure if that is gluten. (spoilers: malt powder is made out of barley which is a gluten grain). He also informed me they replaced their s'mores shake with some nasty watermelon thing and told me if I wanted a chocolate shake they could make it with some syrup. I passed and I'm curious to know if the rest of their shakes have malt in them and that's why they aren't gluten free. I know how irritating it is to be asked about gluten or whatever, but you'd assume working in a vegan restaurant they'd be more understanding. He seemed so annoyed at me. Overall I am so disappointed. Your food looks beautiful but tastes like crap. My two tiny plates and a piece of pie after tip was $25 and that's just dumb. Oh and I feel like absolute shit now after eating there. I respect the concept of a vegan restaurant, but vegan food has the potential to be amazingly flavorful; yours missed the mark. read more

Smaller restaurant and there was 5 in our party so even though we had a reservation we waited a bit. It was a Sunday and people just were enjoying the leisurely day. It was worth the wait! The food is amazing! I had the Alfredo, my husband the Philly steak sandwich , my daughter the Mac n shrews, my son the classic burger and his girlfriend the portobello salad. From dope to nope. This place is suffering from the proprietor being absent. Used to be great and it's completely gone off the rails. Nothing on the menu is really changing, no specials or anything to get loyal patrons back in the door, poor execution on many of the dishes and sides. Incredibly poor timing on dishes, like dropping 2 out of 4entrees and making the rest of the table wait 15 minutes. Advertising brunch and then skipping the brunch menu. Unacceptable. Biggest problem is honestly the aloof servers who are just not properly trained and truly don't care. They will shame you into that 25% tip regardless of their effort and you'll pay. Maybe some people feel like it's part of the experience getting crappy service from hipsters with bad tattoos, but not me. The most simple requests are treated with absolute disdain. Every experience here has been negative for a over a year now. Isa, you did a great job navigating COVID. You powered through with dignity and took care of your staff. We gladly supported your place EVERY WEEK until you were able to open your doors again, and we went back right away. We've gone back and been treated like garbage. If you read this, come back and save this restaurant! We want the old modern love back. I can guarantee it can't survive like this. read more

The food menu was very limited. Their idea of a Vegan menu apparently is to serve lots of pasta and other cheap, unflavored foods. The dish I ordered was mostly ordinary pasta with no flavoring and had bland taste. This place pretends to be "fancy" or "with the times." It reeks of unnecessary pretentiousness. The entire staff at this place looked very young, like management only would hire those under 25 and wannabe, underfed models . . . whose work ethic makes for awful service staff. The clothes they wore were on the verge of inappropriate, especially the tight leggings much of the waitstaff wore. Some people I know, like this place. I know better and I think this place sucks. What a treat for the vegetarians/ vegans of Omaha! Modern love is a cute, laid back restaurant with delicious vegan food that will please vegans and meat eaters alike. I only eat chicken and fish, and have for the past 6 years. Even though I eat some meat, I love having plant based options and eating animal free meals. Modern love takes a creative spin on classic dishes like Mac and cheese and crispy chicken sandwiches. Highlights "Calamari" appetizer: this was our favorite! The mushroom "calamari" was so crispy and chewy and delicious. The texture was perfect. The chili sauce brought it all together. I think I actually liked these better than regular calamari! Mac and shews (vegan Mac and cheese): the Mac and cheese is so creamy and flavorful. It's gooey and amazing! I'd recommend the mac and cheese to a meat eater who is a little nervous about trying a vegan meal. It's amazing and you wouldn't even know there's no cheese. Mule: I forget the exact drink I got but it was a fruity Moscow mule. It was incredible couldn't see it on the online menu, but it was delicious. We got three appetizers and three entree (which of course we all tried!) and I would've happily ate any of them for my meal. Our server was also great and attentive! I ate here with my wife and daughter for an early dinner on a Saturday. This was our second visit, so a review is in order. We started out with the peanut butter cauliflower wings. They were crisp on the outside and had a firm, just right texture. We tried a variety of dishes, this time I had a vegan version of chicken fried steak with cauliflower mashed potatoes. The consensus of both visits was that everything we had was really good, but the winner was the risoto dish. This place is a gem, and none of us are even vegan! Good is good! The thing that stood out on both visits was the extraordinary service. When you remember how great it was weeks later, it was great. The atmosphere is nice, but casual, so a wide range of dress is acceptable. We made a reservation online and I'm glad we did as it was pretty busy. Let's just start off by saying it exceeded all expectations of vegan food. If I could cook vegan food like Modern Love, I would 100%be vegan. We got the nachos for the appetizer and it was a great start to the meal. They were loaded with cheese, pickled onion, tomatoes and an amazing guacamole. I got a chocolate malt milkshake and my finacée got the blueberry spiked lemonade. Both of the drinks were great and tasted awesome. For entrees, we split the chimichanga and pasta with chickpea parmesan. The parmesan was crispy and flavorful. They really know how to get it crispy. The only thing I didn't like about this meal was the salad. The sauce was not my favorite. A vinegrette would had been better. The chimichanga was delicious and the rice complimented it well. Had the Seitan Beet Rueben sandwich, which was fantastic. Really nice texture and flavor. The side I chose was the potato salad, which is definitely one of the best I've had. I was also able to taste the Chickpea Cutlet Parmesan, which was incredible! Very generous portions of food so you won't be leaving hungry.
