I LOVED this place! My friend recommended it and I was really wowed by the whole experience. It's a funky space with really cool interior design; one that just makes you feel happy being around. The menu has a great variety and the portions are really huge. I think it would be good to go with a couple of people and split dishes. Everything is really fresh as it's seasonal. I started with their brussels sprouts and loved the presentation of it, down to the angled bowl they served it in. I devoured them all. I got the "chicken and gravy" as my entree which was good, but I found the mushrooms to be a bit hard to get through. It ended up being way more than I could eat but still a good meal. I'm going to be honest here and say that I wasn't expecting much because is vegan restaurant but I was BLOWN AWAY!! The flavor, the dishes, the desserts are all delicious and makes you wanting more! Specially the flavors on the cauliflower wings, I have no idea how they do it but it something you have to eat to believe how good they are. The same could be said about their "Mac and cheese" putting it quite because they don't use cheese but that what they call it. I am from out of town but every time I visit Omaha, I always have to make a stop here. I have tried a good portion of their menu throughout the years so let me try to give you a run down of what I really loved: My must try's: -Nachos Molo: the best vegan nachos I've had, every ingredient on here is delicious and the portion is enormous. Good to split with another person or two - mushroom fried chick'n: it is pricey but the breading on the oyster mushroom is so good and crispy and it's ultimate comfort food with mash potatoes -potato chimichanga: I don't know why this isn't a permanent menu item because it's so delicious and has a great crunch/textures Everything else I liked: seitan and cauliflower wings, garlic Parmesan Brussels, kale Caesar, Crunchwrap (brunch), chick'n and waffles (brunch) , all desserts here are great For me, I don't love the mac and shrews or the cheeseburger. They are still good, but I have had a better mac and cheese it feels like a little sweet and could be more garlicky. The cheeseburger is good but the meatiness of it is a little off and with all the other options, I think you should try them instead since many restaurants offer a vegan burger. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, so Modern Love shouldn't be written off if you're not either, because it's that good. So good that you might order way too many dishes and end up with leftovers you really regret not taking because it's still summer and you're headed to a broadway show after... hypothetically. One item on the menu that I did find confusing was the description of burgers without some kind of vegetable predecessor description. But that's just a function of the society we live in... guess I'm just programmed to think burger = meat. (Not here). We were staying at the Cottonwood a few blocks away, so we walked down with dogs to get takeout. The restaurant is pretty and comfortable; I would have liked to eat in! Had a nice cocktail while waiting. We split buffalo cauliflower wings and a Goddess Salad. Both were great. My primary reason for coming to Omaha was to dine at this restaurant, and I was not disappointed! The interior is incredibly stylish, the staff was friendly and attentive. I went twice, once for lunch and then again for dinner. For lunch I had the buffalo seitan wings, chick'n bacon ranch with potato salad, and a butterfly lemonade. The seitan wings had the perfect level of heat and a slight crispiness, the sandwich was flavorful on all fronts and every bite was a satisfying as the last, the potato salad was excellent too. The butterfly lemonade was very refreshing. For dinner I went with the original mac & shews and the strawberry swirl shake for dessert. The mac was excellent. Rich, flavorful, a subtle heat that made the dish taste warm without being too spicy, and the kale and crispy chick'n tofu added a perfect amount of flavor and crunch respectively. I got the strawberry shake to go, as I had a long walk back to my hotel ahead of me. The shake was a pitch perfect finish to my meal. I have been to many a vegan restaurant in my lifetime, but this stands as one of the best if not the best restaurant I have yet dined at. Absolutely worth the trip. read more

The quality of service has gone down here dramatically. Most times they are either out of the nice sides to a dish that really make it, or they give you too much, or too little food, and the only times there's consistency is when the owner is in the state. The majority of the menu is salty and fried foods. Dirty tables, spoons, and cups don't help the ambiance. read more

How have I not been here before? I am a very stubborn lactose intolerant person and refuse to give up dairy (I've always got my lactase pills on hand). I'm so glad to now have a place that I can eat at completely worry-free. My boyfriend got the potato chorizo chimichanga and absolutely loved it - which is saying a lot because he tends to be a little wary of vegan food. I got the mushroom fried chicken and was also pleased with how it turned out. I have to admit, I wish I ordered the mac and shews. I tried a bite of my sister's plate of it and was in love. The milkshake is also bomb, and I wish I had extra room in my stomach to order another dessert to split with everyone. If you love nachos, but want to go the vegan route, then modern love is the place to get them out. Typically if you get nachos to-go, the chips can be a bit soggy, but not here. My chips had the right amount of crunch on every bite. My taste buds were very happy after I ate here! read more

Before getting into the negative, let me say that the upscale/comfy decor of Modern Love was great. Most of the food was really good and that is saying something considering that six people out of the seven in our party are meat lovers. The biggest negative food wise, was the chickpea cutlet which was extremely thin and dry. It represented more of a beef jerky texture than a cutlet. The buffalo wings had a good buffalo sauce and excellent dip, however, the triangular shape does not represent wings very well and the seitan was more of a very dense meatball than chicken texture. The largest negative for the entire night was the service. We had to get our waiter and waitress's (yes we had two) attention on numerous occasions. Our drinks took an extremely large amount of time coming to us, then we waited an additional 20 to 25 minutes just to order our food, after the food came we were not checked on until one of us went up to the bar and flagged our waiter down. At this point we had no more drinks including our water, and none of our food had been cleared. Due to it being my daughter's birthday she wanted a milkshake at the end but she was really excited about considering that she is one that is the vegan and wanted to try something new. We received her bill and waited an additional 10 minutes before finally going up to the house and asking for a milkshake. After five more minutes we ended up being able to take the milkshake with us and leave. This sounds a bit like a rant, but I was so surprised that this is a place where I would've had some of the worst service ever. Such a pretty and modern ambience! Great menu of all vegan food. I am vegan, and the rest of my family are not. We tried the fried mozzarella and poutine for appetizers, and they were both good. We ordered a mushroom swizz burger, chickpea parmesan sandwich, chicken bacon ranch sandwich, garlic alfredo, and a reuben. The standouts were the reuben (omg so amazing) and the burger. Love is the correct word choice here. I found this restaurant that describes itself as "swanky vegan comfort food" while spending the night in Omaha. I am so glad I did. The BBQ Tofu Bowl was incredible. It had BBQ tofu ribs, blackeyed peas, jasmine rice, sautéed collared greens and I added avocado. The flavors were plentiful and the service was top rate. Modern love has me completely in love with them. We started with the honee cauliflower wings and they were what dreams are made of. Seriously, I have craved them everyday since we went there. I tried the chickpea parmesan sandwich. It was good, I wouldn't get it again, but only because their menu has so many fantastic options. The watermelon gimlet (I did vodka over gin) was made with actual watermelon as opposed to the processed sugary fake watermelon that bars normally use. The strawberry rhubarb dessert with a scoop of ice-cream was something I would order if I was on death row and had one last dessert to ever eat. TO SAY IT WAS AMAZING IS A UNDERSTATEMENT. The staff is super nice and I want to love this place! I can see myself maybe visiting again / wanting to come to Omaha just to come here again, granted it's pricey and my experience today was eh so maybe not? So I'll start with the bad first; they don't carry the Snickers Pie anymore for some reason, so I tried to get something similar. The Peanut Butter Cup cheese cake sucked, it was bland. I wish I could've found a picture here first. I thought it would have caramel drizzled on the top, i guess it was in it? I didn't taste caramel at all. If you do order it you're going to want to give it time to melt a bit because it comes pretty hard, as most cheesecakes do fresh out the freezer. Its also more of a grainy kind of cheesecake- sort of like those protein balls you can get at the store- Like a protein bar- instead of the smooth daiya stuff you can get at the grocery store- which honestly, if you wanted this you could just pick up a chocolate daiya cheesecake, let it sit out a bit and cover with peanut butter and graham cracker sprinklings on top. When it was completely melted i could taste the chocolate and caramel more but the protein bar center remained. I feel like calling this cheesecake is a stretch. I only ate a bite and was kinda done with it but I didn't want to be a bother and try to get a refund since i purchased and had a bite. Plus the staff was nice and some visibly alternative and I didn't want to give them a hard time. It sucked to waste $10 on a grainy cheesecake slice though. So the next was the ice cream. I'm convinced what i was given wasnt the peanut butter, as my friend got the peanut butter shake- which was AWESOME! Super tasty, recommend. But this had some kind of orange fruity tasting parts in it? I didn't realize it was probably not it until my last couple bites and once against didn't want to be a bother. I wish i got my caramel sauce on the side, or asked about the orange pieces when I came back to get the caramel on because they forgot to put it on my ice cream (luckily i bucked up and bothered them about that- because it was extra and was forgotten as opposed to something I've already eaten) All that aside, besides wasting $10 on a bland gritty cheesecake slice and getting the wrong ice cream scoop the mint chip scoop was nice, (pretty small for $2.60~) it had nice dark chocolate slices of different sizes. It's a more crunchy thing, with bigger than usually chips so if you're looking for mint with hints of chocolate that's not the one for you. The Dutch chocolate scoop was nice, i don't know how Dutch chocolate is suppose to taste but paired with the caramel (which was great! I don't know what it was made of- i think it was coconut? It was more of a sauce and had little black specks. Tasty) The peanut butter shake was really tasty! It was my favorite and sadly wasn't mine. I would recommend that above all else here. I definitely encourage people to try this place out, and want to give it 5 stars as an all vegan restaurant with nice alternative staff and a clean look (if that wasn't the case this probably would've been 2 stars?), but I spent $20~ in the end to enjoy a very small scoop of mint chip and chocolate ice cream with caramel. If my friend hadn't let me have some sips of their peanut butter shake I would've been way sadder and felt pretty ripped off. I definitely feel like all vegan spaces and spaces that employ alternative people are important. First time is always the best. Found this place first time I passed through Omaha and I absolutely fell in love with Modern Love, could hardly wait to get back. Opportunity shone down on me. Tried all different things this time (not total recall on the names of items): a Greek salad, a kale salad, barbecued seitan ribs, nacho Mac and shews, almond joy brownie. We thought the Greek salad was excellent, the Kale salad was not particularly special, the nacho Mac and shews outstanding, I think any variety of the Mac and shews would be fantastic and not to be missed, the barbecued seitan ribs with all its sides was substantive and pretty good. The Mac and shews and ribs are both pretty filling and any apps and salads are probably unnecessary. Our almond joy brownie was out of this world and I deem any of their desserts necessary. Like last time, we enjoyed our meal in the lovely park across the street. Though this time I walked in to pick up the food and got to see how lovely the restaurant and bar are. After dinner I went back in for sodas, I chose two $5 drinks without ice so she didn't fill them to the top (cheap move). Truly among the best of the best for vegan dining. Never had a dish that I didn't like. This time we got the kale salad, always a fav. Wings were exceptional as always. We tried the honee sandwich by our server's recommendation and it was incredible, sweet and crispy tofu like you've never had before. Also had fried chik'n and potatoes which was yum. So my husband and I happened to be walking by and decided to come here. We really liked the inclusive language that was on display in their front window and thought we would give it a shot. My husband had a pasta dish which was good. I tried a seitan burger, and I didn't like it. I can't decide if this a problem with the restaurant or a problem with my expectations. Should a person who typically doesn't eat vegan be able to enter a vegan restaurant and not taste the difference? Craving a chocolate chip cookie and ice cream. Both were not good enough to finish. The cookie was thick but not soft. I wouldn't have ate it if it was free but the $4 made it even more frustrating. The ice cream did not taste flavorful and the texture was gritty. I am overdue in writing this review, as I got to be there in Omaha for the grand reopening of Modern Love. What an absolute treat! From the ambience (check out the wall paper!) to the incredible food, Modern Love totally did it for me. I'm vegetarian, and what often happens is people hear "vegan." So when my friend, who is neither, suggested we go here, I did remind her -- "Mama loves cheese" She assured me I wouldn't miss it at this place. And she was right! I will add to the chorus of "Mac 'n Shews" fans -- by far my favorite of the evening. If you are a mushroom lover, get anything with mushrooms in it; be sure you're committed, though. If you're "just okay" with mushrooms, you'll end up kinda overwhelmed by them. The shepherd's pie was probably my least favorite of what we got -- appetizers were all awesome. I am from Philly and there's a great vegan fast food place near my house that does everything well except their Philly cheesesteak. I seriously want to have those people call up Modern Love because their cheesesteak was great! The cheese was creamy and delicious without being overly salty. Absolutely everything we've had so far is good! The first time we tried Modern Love was earlier last year when I had to go on a strict no dairy diet because my newborn baby couldn't tolerate dairy in my diet. My next door neighbor pushed me to try it out so we ended going in together on a take out order. We got an order of the wings and a few of their chocolate peanut butter shakes as our first sampling. Wow. I had long heard good things about them, but did not expect it to taste THIS good. My kids all obsessed (and fought) over the chocolate PB shake and my husband and I obsessed (and maybe fought for the last piece) of the cauliflower wings. Mind you, my husband comes from a long line of meat eaters and BBQ enthusiasts and even he said, "Some restaurants don't even do regular chicken wings this good." The vegan ranch that came with the wings were also phenomenal. Fast forward to later in the Summer of 2020 we had some friends come into town who are plant-based. Without a doubt we decided to order a pan of the Mac and Shews and Wings to accompany our meal. While the Mac and Shews tasted delicious, my kids were not fooled and only about half of them ate it. I enjoyed it, however, the wings are by far our favorite item so far. We certainly plan on trying more items (any recommendations?) in the near future.
