I didn't know what to expect stepping inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the modern look and feel of the diner. I ordered their signature Benedict, which consisted of sweet potato and a cheesy hollandaise sauce. It was delicious. I substituted the corn bread for beans and it was a choice well made. The sweet potato hash is something you won't find anywhere else, the bacon was cooked to perfection, and the beans were second to none. The service was very nice but my food was very disappointing. I ordered a croque monsieur, but what I received was 2 slices of sourdough bread with some special mustard, barely any Gruyère cheese and a thick slice of ham, no egg coating or fried/grilled bread. I ordered the croque monsieur with a poached egg and, fortunately, the egg was perfectly poached. When I asked for additional cheese for my sandwich as half of it had no cheese, I was initially brought 2 slices of American cheese. They then brought out some shredded Gruyère. My husband's omelet was ok he said. I thought his home fries were good; unfortunately, my sandwich came with chips. A disappointing experience overall. Maybe other things are better. read more

This place is spacious and roomy. They have music in the background - so it is not silent- that is a good thing. The service was good - although I wish they checked in more for coffee. The food was not that hot- the hash could of used another minute in the oaThe hash was not what I expected - it was almost sweet potato casserole - not much else. The cornbread was grilled and tasty. It was a Saturday morning around 9:15am. Looking for a breakfast place where we don't have to wait forever. Did a quick search and Modern Bistro came up. We pulled up, ample parking. Good sign! we entered and there were only two other parties seated. Nice modern look with a slight rustic feel. Our waitress was very nice (a Bryant student) and quick service! When I looked a the menu- they have some interesting items. Not just a basic breakfast place. I did stick basic. I went with the 2 eggs with bacon and a slice of French toast. Pretty simple. Nothing to shout from the mountains over but I can say- the home fries are flavorless. Could use some help there. In regards to Covid- hand sanitizer is available. All staff were wearing masks, we were socially distanced from other patrons and even the cooks we could see when the door swung open were wearing masks! Ordered two egg sandwiches; one over easy the other fried hard. Both came out identical (cooked over medium). Also, griddle and crepe section of menu says that half orders are available. However, when I ordered a half order of the pancake roll I was told they couldn't do half order. Server was friendly but a breakfast place should be able to cook eggs to order and if you offer something then make good in it. They could have offered me the full order for the half order price or at least explained why they couldn't offer what they claimed they ordered. read more

Found this place while out cruising, it looked very promising. It is a very family type of atmosphere. We were seated quickly, but did have a bit of a wait waiting on the waitress. Everything looked and sounded so good. My husband got breakfast which he said was delicious!! I got the croque monsieur, the bread was a little dry, and the mustard a bit thick, but otherwise really good, it came with house made potato chips which I usually hate, but there were delicious, crispy and not overly greasy. What I appreciate about modern bistro is that it is a Lot nicer than your typical greasy spoon. It's clean and has a fresh modern feel vs feeling kind of dingy like most breakfast diners. The food is decent and what you would get at any bfast diner but they have some good daily specials that are always a little nicer, such as French toast made from sweet bread! They also have a full bar if you are looking for brunch! It's very busy in the weekends so you will wait: see the FULL BAR, but weekdays it's just a walk in. My only room for improvement would be for the kitchen to plate the breakfast potatoes first, they're always so hot when you get them they burn your mouth and you can't eat them, so plating it first will give it a minute or two to cook off before it gets to your table! read more

Woke up a late on a Thursday morning and all I wanted was brunch!! Did a quick search on yelp and came across this hidden gem! When my family and I walked in we noticed how cute and clean the location was. Started off with $7.99 mimosas they were sweet and strong (just the way I like them!). I made up my own omelet which had American cheese, tomatoes, caramelized onions, peppers, and pesto. I can not describe how amazing this omelette was (my mouth just watered up!). Just ok. Home style food but nothing to write home about. I wish it was better because I live very close by.

We read several reviews here before deciding to try it out. Sad to say, it was a disappointing experience, especially after reading some of the high praise they received. Let's start with service. Slow is an understatement. The place was less than 1/2 full & our waitress seemed to never be around. She greeted us shortly after we sat & brought us coffee. Then she disappeared for about 20 minutes before coming back to take our order. Food came out in a timely manner. But, it took over 30 minutes to get a box for leftovers, our check, & pay the bill...she was nowhere to be found. Food was OK, but not great. We split an apple walnut muffin; it was so dry & tasted like flour. I got the Florentine Eggs Benedict; home fries very obviously came from a frozen bag mix (I know because we've had it at home), hollandaise sauce was runny & lacked flavor, & there was almost none of the pesto ricotta on it, which is a shame because it was the best part of the dish; eggs were properly pouched. Hubby got the Sweet Potato Hash Benedict; the mornay sauce was delicious, home made cornbread had no flavor & was very dry, & the hash was great, but you grew sick of it quickly because it was too sweet. Prices were on par to similar restaurants in the area. It's very possible it was just an off day. But, unfortunately, this place isn't worthy the drive for us to return. I walked in and thought that it was just another diner with mediocre food. The outside is nice. The inside is clean with Christmas decorations. The service was good. The waitress did a good job checking on us and was attentive to our needs. I had the special Greek omelet: Spinach, feta, onions and olives. It was delicious and filling (As you can see in the pictures I posted). My friend had the regular breakfast: eggs, hash, toast and bacon and pancakes with fruit on the side as replacement for the hash. The hash was crisp and not burnt. I love that they have the local Yacht sodas made here in Rhode Island. Service was great. No other selection on coffee-just regular coffee. Probably the best diner style food around the Cumberland area. I recommend and would definitely go back. 4 stars and excellent. read more

I was very excited to try the food from here but I wasn't aware of the consequences of their poor communication. I was called 4 to 5 times being harassed of getting the cops called on me if I don't pick up the food. When my intention was to try the food and pay for it. Make sure for future customers if you are to come eat from here. You only have a time limit of 10 minutes to pick up your food otherwise you will get the cops called on you and be called so many times. read more

Was in the area and wanted a good breakfast in a laid-back setting. This place is perfect for that. I had the lemon and ricotta crepes which were topped with a rosewater and orange syrup. The crepes were so good I didn't get a chance to take photos--pretty much devoured it all in record time. My friend got the stuffed croissant french toast, which had a strawberry cream cheese filling, and wowza that was really good, too! My friend also really likes their homefries. The portion sizes are breakfast appropriate, but our service was not great. Not sure if they were short staffed or just overwhelmed. The staff, when they did come to our table, were polite and apologetic, so they could've been having an off day, it happens. Wow, heard about this place from a friend and recently visited twice and both times were wonderful. On the outside, it doesn't look particularly notable but is comfy and cute on the inside-very unassuming. Service was fantastic and food? Food was absolutely amazing. Very surprised to see such an unique and delicious menu in Cumberland. This chef is talented beyond measure! Had the California Chicken Panini the first time and just had the BLT which was no ordinary BLT-- the best I've ever had; complete with some sort of sauce that I didn't recognize but love. Went here this past Sunday to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. We had a party of 8, including 2 small children. To my surprise, they take reservations! Even though it was busy, they had our table ready for us. Sometimes going out to eat with 2 children can be difficult, but they did not cause any fuss, and the environment lent us to be comfortable having the kids there. Our waitress was attentive and professional. She may not have had given us much chit-chat, but it was very busy and I am guessing she was doing her best with all of her table and orders to keep track of. Regardless, our coffees were always full, and requests always fulfilled in a timely manner (asking for water, hot sauce, extra napkins). The food was pretty yummy. Everyone left pleased. My husband got eggs benedict, noting his hollandaise was flavorful without being too heavy or lemony, a super plus for him. Other table favorites were the potatoes. I subbed my potatoes for the fresh fruit bowl which was filled with quite a variety of fruit. Our overall experience was nice: we enjoyed our food, didn't feel rushed and felt like we were taken care of. We left the restaurant happy and not smelling of breakfast, a huge plus for me. The one minor down side is parking. When busy, the parking lot can seem a bit tight, and with customers turning over quickly, it seemed like both times I was in the parking lot there was a commotion.
