The team at MAT have been my go-to crew when I've been mystified by a sound or hiccup in my '06 Scion xB. Just the other day, after trying to fix my own squealing alternator and power steering belts, John had the problem fixed with a long screwdriver and a 10mm wrench in under a minute. It seemed so easy but when I have only a handful of hours of experience working on cars (mostly just from changing my own oil)...these guys have hundreds upon hundreds of combined hours of wisdom-built on experience and practice-to get your job done quickly, smartly and with a smile! The guys at Modern Auto Technology have always worked quickly and done super high quality work at the lowest prices around... That in itself is a nearly impossible combination to find in a mechanic. In addition, almost every time I go in there John figures out a way to actually save me money. I brought my 2002 BMW to him for many years, couldn't have been happier with the work, always felt like John gave me a deal and was a straight shooter throughout the process. He even gave me invaluable advice when it came time to buy a new Audi. I'm finally off warranty on this car and there's nowhere else I'd ever bring it. When the check engine light came on I drove it over and John ran the computer that told him the sensor triggered was an expensive fix but it was something he saw on Audis a lot. Instead of taking the work which I would have been more than happy to give him he told me to bring it to the dealer and suggested that it was likely this was a recalled part or covered under an extended warranty. He was right. Bottom line, you're crazy to bring your car anywhere else, I never will. read more

I called John after the lights on my car stopped working. I had planned to take it to the toyota dealership because I had checked the fuses and was worried about a major electrical problem, but the dealership wouldn't even look at the car without a $100+ fee. I called him at 1:30, and he said, "How about 2:00?" My boyfriend and I brought it in, estimating how much of our paychecks this electrical fault would take up. We drove our car into a yard filled with older Porche's and Mercedes in various states of repair with a couple of stunners in the shop (love that white '73!) and John came right out. He had our "Major electrical" diagnosed in no time flat- it was two burned out lights, which he replaced in a jiffy. While he was at it, he took off the rear door cover and replaced the license plate bulb, one of which had burned out. He was fast, friendly, and charged us a fraction of what we had been afraid our problem would cost. They may specialize in Porche's and German cars, but they did just fine with our car. I've been taking my Porsche to the dealership since I bought it and have always felt I was overpaying for maintenance and repairs, but didn't feel I had an alternative. Then I met John at Modern Auto Technology: He and his crew are highly trained and very knowledgeable, which are obviously great and necessary traits to look for in an auto mechanic... although just as important is that your mechanic be honest, and honest these guys are! These guys are great! They've done some work on my air cooled 911, which is the main reason I started using them. I was looking for a local shop I could trust who could service my Porsche without feeling like I was being taken advantage of. I've had the car worked on at independent shops in Pasadena and in the SFV. I felt like I was overcharged at both places...and the SFV is just too far. John is very knowledgeable, honest and reasonable in what he charges and he will tell you exactly what needs to be done. He doesn't add on any unnecessary repairs. They are definitely Porsche experts (judging by the number of 911's they have in their lot), but they also know other cars. Lately, I've been taking my BMW here to get a lot of maintenance work done. Before I had my BMW serviced at shops in Eagle Rock and Pasadena. Those shops were knowledgeable about my car, but I feel like I'm getting better value for my money at MAT. Recently, I had an ignition coil go out on BMW. John diagnosed it by just listening to it. He replaced it for me and only charged me for the part...no labor. I felt bad not paying him for the labor, but he insisted. I thought that was really cool of him. read more

I bought an '87 BMW over 15 years ago and it had a problem that non of the BMW specialists were able to solve. I even took it to two BMW dealers and spent a lot of $$ with no result. Then I took it to M.A.T. and told John about the problem. He is great at troubleshooting. It was a challenge for him but he did not give up, he did pinpoint the problem and took care of it once and for all. Since then they are my go to guys when it comes to car repairs.
