At 1130pm on July 4th we heard a very loud and aggressive banging on our door. The individual who was knocking on our door informed us that our car was hit by a drunk driver. At first, we thought this person was just trying to be helpful and notify us about this situation but it turned out that the reason he came pounding on our door in middle of the night was because he worked for Modern Auto Crafters and wanted permission to tow our car. This all happened very quickly and we realize that it was our mistake to let this person, Ricki, tow our car. We should have waited until the next day and we have to own that mistake. However, I am writing this review so that people are aware of this company's shocking and outrageous behavior. If they come knocking at your door asking to tow your car, whatever you do, DO NOT LET THEM. This is their entire business model. I see in some previous reviews they claim not to be a towing company and yet every bad review here seems to have the same theme: they towed our car and then it took a full week for us to get our car out of their lot. Our case was no exception. Ricki conveniently failed to inform us that they would be closed for another week. This was the Monday night on July 4th, the end of a three day weekend. When our insurance company called them the next morning they had an automated message saying that they would be closed for another week. The only reason they would've kept this information from us is because this is their shady business model: get people to tow their cars and then keep it for as long as possible. When I texted Ricki to ask him about this he simply said "sorry about the miscommunication". There was no miscommunication. He deliberately did not tell us that they would be closed for another week. Because of this, 32 days later, our car is still not repaired. Had it not been for this intentional delay by modern auto crafters we would have had our vehicle back by now. I hope that someone sues this company for this shocking and unconscionable business practices. This is not an honest way to make money off of people. They should be ashamed of themselves. My car was towed here after an accident. Same story as most of the others: Car was hit while parked, and shortly after a guy (independent, but presumably paid by Modern Auto) showed up and offered me a tow. My car was held for weeks as the insurance claim process played out (multiple cars were involved, so there was some confusion over who's claim would be covering it, with multiple inspectors involved). At every step of the process, the shop would fail to inform me any time there was a hold up that required my attention, forcing me to constantly check in. Not ideal, but fine, I can do that. However, they would go days, or even weeks on end without answering the phones, with an inbox that was always full. Insurance would tell me I had to contact them, and they would be unreachable for long periods. I eventually got through to them by leaving a review saying that they never answered their phones, which was dragging out an already frustratingly long process with insurance. That got the owner's attention. He immediately wrote me an insulting response, told me they wouldn't do business with people like me, and that I had to remove it from his lot the next day. I arranged to do so, and informed them I'd have a tow truck come the following afternoon. Then I was told it would have to be towed in the morning. I hastily made the last minute arrangements to do that. When I arrived that morning, the owner (Pete Kathopoulis) accosted me and started trying to blame the insurance company, despite my complaint being that his own company was drawing out the process by making themselves unreachable. He literally threatened to jump over the counter and beat me up, called me a slur, and then berated me for appearing scared. By this point, yes, I was visibly shaking due to adrenaline. I didn't know what this shockingly unprofessional maniac was going to do. This was a guy who flew off the handle at someone who'd made a very reasonable complaint about his company never picking up the phone! If there's a bare minimum that auto shops who take possession of people's cars should be held to, it's to not be completely unavailable for extended periods with no explanation. For whatever reason, I wasn't charged to get my car out. Perhaps he didn't want to throw more fuel on the "this guy is a shameless crook" accusations that are a common thread in these reviews. Afterwards, I received a threatening e-mail from Pete, alleging that I was abusive to his employees (my only interaction with any employees was a curt "thanks" to the cashier as she handed me my keys), and that if I didn't remove my negative review, he would sue me. On what grounds, I have no idea. My wife recorded the altercation (with his knowledge) in which he threatened to beat me up, so I suspect he's just in the habit of intimidating people. Story's conclusion: After over a month stuck in Pete's drawn out limbo, the second place I towed it to worked out the remaining snags with insurance, kept me informed, ordered the parts within a few days, and had it repaired about a week later. read more

My car is currently at this shop. Someone broke into my car early Sunday morning 3/10 and low and behold a tow truck driver showed up out of no where while we were waiting for the police. Towed to Modern Auto Crafters and it's been on the lot for 6 days. Now they're telling my insurance carrier that the fee for the 6 days and mind you we're not even at the end of the 6th day as I'm writing this is over $4,000. First Week of 6/22/20 the autoshop gave me excuse due to Covid-19 it will take time to get an adjuster to appraise the damage. Week #2 of 6/29/20 this shop closes for a whole week. He kept saying he will send pictures of the damage to my insurance company to ultimately telling them that he's too busy. 3 weeks of holding my car and nothing happens. Week #4 of 7/13/20, I was fed up and beg my insurance company tow my car to another autobody which they did. Final straw was the owner refuses to release because my insurance company did not pay fees associate with storage of my car. What a bunch of crooks. They held my car for weeks without fixing my car and refusing to let me take my car out of their shop. After much headaches, Modern Auto Crafters release my car. They are crooks. I later found out that Modern Auto Crafters will hold your car as long as possible regardless of fix it or not so They can collect storages fees billed to you or your insurance company. This place is very Unprofessional and Shady! My vehicle was towed here in October for minor damages. The door needed to be replaced. The tow truck driver who referred us informed me, that we don't have to pay a deductible or any towing fees. We got our car towed there to the shop and planned to do the repairs elsewhere via a family mechanic. This shop charged over $3,000 to move the car, without doing any work! My insurance company went back forth with them trying to reason. But this company was insistent on getting as much money possible out of us and the insurance company. My car sat for 2 weeks racking up fees before they actually did any work. In the midst of this, we have been lied to and manipulated. They were hard to reach and we were left in the dark. Today we finally got to pick up my car and the repairs were mediocre. My door that was damaged, was creaking every time it closes, and the company informed us that we had to bring it back, and shifted the blame on the insurance company. They also got angry at us for informing the company, that after over a month my door was still not fixed! Because of that, the company said we had to pay the $400 deductible for getting them involved! We also found out they stole something from our trunk! About two weeks ago, my wife's parked car was hit, while parked in a residential parking lot. The impact drove our car back across the parking lot from space into cars on the opposite side of the parking lot. Cars on either side of space were also damaged. Philadelphia police, an ambulance and a towing service (Recovery Solutions) arrived on the scene before we were even aware that there had been an accident. The car driven by the woman who struck our car and our car blocked all traffic in the parking lot. My wife asked that her car be towed to Caliber on Washington Avenue but the tow truck driver from RECOVERY SOLUTIONS indicated that it was imperative that the cars be removed quickly and he argued for another destination, Modern Auto Crafters, on West Chester Pike. The car was ultimately taken to MODERN AUTO CRAFTERS. About 5 days later, we were informed that the "towing and storage charges" amounted to between $4000 and $5000. Please note that is NOT a repair fee as the car was a total loss. The several thousand dollar bill was simply for "towing and storage". Eventually, our insurer had the car released from MODERN AUTO CRAFTERS and we moved on. MODERN AUTO CRAFTERS has pages upon pages of atrocious reviews available on the internet. They apparently pay several towing services to bring them automobiles that have been involved in accidents and they charge exorbitant fees to have those cars released back to owners. Complete sham! I will now attempt to post a zero star review. If yelp requires some number of stars, please be aware that no star was earned. This shop is absolutely HORRIBLE. I would give 0 stars if I could. They are hard to reach and I've been given lots of attitude when asking about MY car. My car has been there since MARCH 2021. Mind you the insurance took some time to approve the payment and then after 3 months Modern refused to work on my car. I had to arrange a tow for my car to get moved and the insurance has to pay $13,000 in storage fees to release my car. Add to that, my car was blocked in my 20 cars so the tow people weren't able to get my car out of the shop.
