I got the opportunity to check out 13 modern homes all over Austin. Definitely gave me more motivation to work toward getting a home like one of these somewhere down the road. This is a self-guided experience. There were multiple locations for you to get your tickets (which were actually wristbands) and any location you pick your wristband up at, they will have maps for you. I pretty much started from the northern-most home and worked my way in a counter-clockwise circle. You can meet various architects, designers, builders, and all sorts of people involved in real estate. There are yard signs that lead you in the right direction as you get closer and it's not hard to spot where the house is. Just look a section of luxury cars crammed in an area and that's about where the house is. If you plan to hit up every home, be prepared to spend a few hours. With the drive times and visits added together, it will take at least 5 hours to make it to every house on the tour. Anyway, if you like standing in awe of other peoples homes, are interested in modern architecture, modern interior design, or just homes in general. Get yourself on one of these tours and have an adventure around Austin.

The paddle boats are first come first serve and since we were there on a school day mid afternoon, there was no wait. The staff took great care of us and got us on our way quickly. The boat worked well even in really windy conditions. It was fun to just relax on the lake while getting a little leg workout! This is a fun, quirky experience to do on the lake!

This time we stopped at the library, & it's BEAUTIFUL. My mother said "I could spend all day in here - you just don't want to leave." The woman doesn't even read...!! Started down "dirty 6th street," then the library, then around to different landmarks. One of them was the cemetery which was gorgeous & Doug said you absolutely have to come back. He gave us the option of getting off at the cemetery's aBoarding is at the Austin Visitor's Center which has free maps, magazines, & brochures - & some seriously adorable animal key chains, jewelry, & clothing. Our tour guide was really nice and friendly. Our group consisted of just the three of us so it was essentially a private tour. It was in a comfortable enclosed van so we didn't have to worry about any of the outdoor elements. We got some history and insights of the city, a nice comfortable ride, and were able to get out and stretch our legs. If you prefer a more traditional tour, this is an excellent option.

The Texas State Capitol is massive, ornate, and undeniably beautiful. It's one of the largest state…read morecapitols in the country -- taller than the U.S. Capitol -- and the pink granite exterior looks incredible in the sun. The grounds are equally impressive: wide lawns, old trees, monuments everywhere, and walkways that make it easy to wander without feeling boxed in. As a physical place, it's stunning. But the contrast between the building and what happens inside it is impossible to ignore. Some of the most oppressive elected officials in the state work here, pushing policies that many Texans feel erode or outright erase basic freedoms. A lot of people see the current political climate as one where leaders are working hard to force the population into a narrow religious worldview, regardless of what others believe. The beauty of the building doesn't soften the reality of the decisions being made within it. The Capitol itself has extensive accessibility features -- ramps, elevators, modified pathways, and accommodations that allow full access to the building, including for the governor, who uses a wheelchair. These improvements exist because of decades of advocacy and investment in accessibility infrastructure. Yet some of the governor's policy positions have been criticized by disability‑rights groups as inconsistent with broader goals of accessibility and inclusion. It's a striking contrast: a building designed to be open and navigable to all, while some of the decisions made inside it are seen as running counter to that spirit. As a landmark, the Capitol is worth seeing. As a symbol of the state's political direction, it's harder to admire without thinking about who works there and what their decisions mean for Texans who don't fit their narrow worldview.

I loved that we were able to just walk in when they opened to grab our bikes. Within minutes, we were on our way. My boyfriend and I rented bikes to ride the Walnut Trail. Prices are really good and include a helmet and lock. The bikes are in great shape and the owner of the shop, Adam, has great recommendations on trails/routes if you're unfamiliar with the area. He was really kind, helpful, and meticulous when making sure our bikes for us perfectly! Can't wait until my parents come into town, so I can take them on a bike and brew tour. They also offer short term and longer term rentals.

I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin.
