Once I arrived at the airport, waited until the airline employee was ready to check people in. Had the tickets already printed to it was breeze! Going to security was another positive experience. Line wasn't long (5am) and the Jet blue employee was friendly and helpful. I was at my gate in no time. My longest wait was actually waiting to board the plane at the gate!

They have a United Lounge but unfortunately it was under renovation. There were many people since it was only 1 terminal. Gate to gate were close to each other. We were not sure if we were on the line for our gate or for the gate next to us. They need more clear direction for the passengers at the gates.

It was a snack bar with limited choices, maybe 5. Split a club sandwich on a croissant (made fresh) and was quite good and reasonably priced. Had a choice of sitting inside at a table, an outside area that views the runway(too hot) even in the shade. It would have been nice if their was a fan outside,or in some comfy chairs in the waiting room lounge.Chose those and saw few planes take off and land, however you had to walk to the window to see since the chairs do not face the runway. Left and met another nice lady that gave us a tour of the pilots training room with simulators. Wanted try one but it costs 60 bucks an hour and not wanting to spend my time crashing planes, passed. Thus, I will not be starting back to work until next Monday. I have some time this week to recover and do a little scouting for things to do for my BIL. We have taken my BIL to most popular spots in Austin, however, we were looking for some new things to do. Thus, I headed to the Austin Visitors Center located on 5th Street near Congress. Let me be the first to say that the Austin Visitor Center has completed changed since I was there last. The last time I visited they were giving out maps, bluebonnet seeds and other trinkets. It is a full-on operation now...y'all! The Austin Visitor center has transformed into a one-stop shop for travel info, local recommendations, and shopping (yes...shopping!). Shopping includes clothing, hats, magnets, stuffed animals, to name just a few. Wow...I was not ready for this paparazzi of items. Other services include free maps and guides, tour booking services, free Wi Fi, restrooms, charging stations and luggage storage for a small fee. In addition, their coffee shop, 5th and Brew, is a nice respite for tourists. The space is large and spacious. The ladies in the Austin Visitor Center were super sweet and helpful! Such a pleasant experience.... Great space...excellent services.

I stopped by the Texas State Cemetery on a Thursday afternoon in mid May. The weather was just…read morestarting to warm up, but hadn't quite crossed into "Texas hot" yet. Fred greeted me at the gate along with another staff member and immediately made me feel welcome. He asked if I was meeting anyone, looking for someone specific, or if there was anything in particular I wanted to see. What followed was one of the most unexpectedly meaningful experiences I've had in Austin. Calling what Fred did a "tour" honestly feels too shallow. He walked me through the grounds like a historian and storyteller preserving something important. He shared stories about the people buried there, explained the architecture and monuments, and had an unbelievable depth of knowledge about Texas history. But more than that, he knew how to read the moment. He knew when to pause and let you take it all in. He knew when to speak, when to move on, and somehow seemed to anticipate my questions before I even asked them. Fred was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but genuinely funny, engaging, and an amazing ambassador for the cemetery and for Texas history itself. You could tell he truly cared about preserving the stories behind the names. A cemetery may seem like an unusual destination to some people, but I see it as a place of remembrance, sacrifice, service, and history. Visiting here, especially after also seeing the Alamo, helps you understand the absolute, unmistakable pride Texans have in their state. There's just no question about it. One detail I especially appreciated was learning that the visitor center was intentionally designed to resemble the Long Barracks at the Alamo. It was a subtle but powerful connection between two places dedicated to preserving Texas history and identity.
