We've been on a ton of ghost walks and tours in over a dozen cities/states including Honolulu, Gettysburg and Salem, MA. My family and I felt like today's tour with Monica as our guide was one of the best. Her ability to weave a story accompanied by pictures, EVPs, and her passion for telling the truth behind the stories was unmatched. My husband and I love good ghost tours and ghost investigations. We opt for private because we are traveling with a little one. I have had the pleasure of doing them coast to coast and in the UK. We have taken her for overnights in Jerome and Virginia City. My daughter is an only child and just an all around good kid. I strap her on my back and she falls asleep. Anywho I messaged the company via Facebook to get the all clear and the response was "Yikes! Three hours is a bit long for a five year old." If you aren't okay with little people on the hunt I totally get it. She's an unusual kid with parents who have an unusual interest. However, The "yikes" felt like an attack on my parenting skills. I know, I know. I can't believe I went on a ghost tour, but if you're reading this, you're probably interested in one too. We met in front of the Driskill (yes, that's how they spell it) Hotel. Maverick was our tour guide, and he was pretty knowledgeable about all the different places in Austin. He even wrote a book about it which you can buy on Amazon for $15 or from him for $10. I took the tour a couple weeks ago and still haven't read it. Sorry, Maverick! It wasn't really a planed tour which I didn't really like. He just gave us choices and asked us where we wanted to go. It turned out fine, but I wished he had some type of itinerary. We ended the night at a haunted bar. It was a great way to end, but if you're more interested in actually seeing ghosts or "feeling" them like the ad implies, this is not the tour for you. If it's a tour of haunted Austin that you want, then this is it. read more

It was a hot in humid night but what do you expect in Texas when it's June. Regardless of the temperature,, Monica, our tour guide, and the author of True Haunted Tales of the Driskill Hotel was dressed on point to play the part. We met at the oldest establishment in Austin and ended the tour at the same corner. It felt like out of the other historic tours I've been this one has the most walking or maybe the heat exhaustion was just setting in. To our disappointment, our tour guide did not show up. We arrived at 7.45pm as per the email sent and waited until 8.15pm. We checked all possible locations around the Omni hotel. The worst part for us is not only missing out on the tour but as we are international visitors we had no wifi or phone reception to contact anyone. We then had to walk home in the dark which left us feeling extremely unsafe. As this was one of our final activities whilst in America there was no way for us to attend another tour. I appreciate there is a cancellation policy in place but i sent an email requesting that an exception can be made to honour a refund as this was something we feel is out of our control. read more

Our group of 5 took the tour last night and had a great time with Monica! It was supposed to be just us 5, but Monica contacted us ahead of time to see if we were fine with another couple joining us (we all had no problem). However, I'm not sure why they went on the tour because they were not interested in anything Monica had to say and would wander off on their own. I love that she included the use of a couple of ghost hunting gadgets. We picked up a lot of activity, which added to the fun and excitement of the tour. My partner and I had trouble finding the entrance to the hotel at first so we were a little late - but the host Maverick texted me so we could quickly catch up - very considerate. The tour was truly riveting. Seriously - I have a hard time paying attention to things like this sometime but the whole time I was glued to the stories. I even bought Maverick's book that he wrote on the 6th street ghosts and read it in one sitting. Not gonna lie, I was not impressed. I'm not a particularly fervent believer in ghosts, but I still love all things supernatural and spooky and whatnot, especially when they're tied to real history. Plus my girlfriends even more into it than I am, so I decided to take her out on a date here. Let me make this short and sweet. This was a walking tour, which is cool, but I expected to walk to more places. Instead we would walk to a location, stop there for like 20 minutes while she told some stories and showed photos that OTHER people had taken, and then we were off to the next place. The stories were interesting, to be sure, but we weren't really given a chance to have encounters of our own. The "recordings" and "photographic evidence" presented was...unverifiable at best, but I went along with it. Not only that, but our tour guide would rush through intersections, with a group of people behind her, in Downtown Austin on a Saturday night, with like 4 seconds left on the clock. I know we're all adults here, but if it were me I'd still have my head on a swivel, accounting for everyone. Last thing you need on something that's supposed to be fun is someone getting hit by a drunk driver. And overall it just wasn't that great, I don't know. The only location we actually went inside was the Driskill. It just seemed like a rip-off, even for 20 bucks a person. My girlfriend said she enjoyed it, but we both agreed there should have been more places. read more

So first off, I am not into ghost and was not really looking forward to tour. I have never done anything like this, and did not know what to expect. However, Valentines weekend for my wife, so whatever makes her happy! That being said, had a great time and ended up really enjoying it. Monica, the tour guide was a great story teller and I loved the historical recounts. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and your camera! BTW, my wife is very into this stuff and been on several of these type tours, she loved the tour and Monica too. I wish I could give this tour negative stars, but I guess 1 star is fair since the tour guide was a nice gal. Unfortunately, the stories were lame. Perhaps, it would've helped if they would've suggested that guests get drunk before arriving. There was nothing scary about the tales and details seemed to be missing. The scariest part of the tour is knowing that I'll never get those 2hrs of my life back. Save your money. Just go to the Driskill with friends, have some drinks and walk to Congress, over to the Capitol, and to the Omni while stopping at random historic buildings and making up drunken ghost stories. read more

Ok, I admit it. I'm addicted to Ghost Hunters on TV and I love a good ghost story. "I see dead people." I was always the kid who got invited to all the slumber parties because I liked to creep everyone out and lead the seances, Ouija board, levitation and the classic....bring everyone into the pitch black bathroom one at a time so they could call on the ghost of Bloody Mary and see her staring back at them in the mirror. It was amusing and a few times I was so good at it I even creeped MYSELF out. I wanted to be a Gypsy Fortune Teller when I grew up so this was good training. I'm also interested in history and love old buildings so what could be better than getting to know your newfound city by taking the Austin Ghost Tour? This is a good activity for older kids too. My 12 year old daughter actually looked up from her cell phone texting frenzy to say excitedly, "Cool! Let's go!" I even got some eye contact, so I knew I must have been onto something. We ate at the Moonshine beforehand since its the start of the Ghost Tour and is reportedly haunted as well. The tour started promptly and surprisingly was very crowded....there were at least 30 people waiting to be creeped out. Our guide was Elizabeth who showed up dressed in some period costume of sorts and proceeded to show us around the downtown haunts. I agree with other reviewers that it was a bit disappointing in that you couldn't go into the buildings and it was pretty much "ghost stories on parade" as we traipsed through the the streets of Austin. I snapped a few photos with "orbs" at the buildings as the guide suggested we do. Orbs are little anomalies of light that appear in many digital photos today but there is much controversy over whether or not orbs are really proof of anything paranormal. Mostly they are just dust or bugs reflecting the light. I tend to lean towards the dust theory but as one well versed in creeping people out, I went with it and showed the others the orbs I shot. There was even one in the window of "the most haunted building downtown." All in all it was an interesting evening and a nice walk through downtown. I think $20 is a bit steep for this tour but my daughter and I were pretty happy with the entertainment. Really disappointing. After spending $30 a ticket...you'd think we would actually be able to go into the places and walk through the areas they talk about ghosts being. Instead, they point to areas or buildings where ghosts have been reported and tell stories. They do this on the street where you can't hear the guides anyway. Super disappointing...and as an Austinite I've got to say that I am kind of ashamed that this tour hasn't raised the bar on entertainment and storytelling. My experience was a good, solid, mediocre. Yes, I'd say I found myself lodged right there between "giddyup and call me edna" and "shoot me in the face" in the sweet spot of tolerability. We did the "Warehouse District" tour last night. Our guide... what was his name... oh yes, Maverick was a nice guy, knowledgeable and willing to help. I learned a lot and have told several people about it... but as Mav put it, the tour is really about history. Didn't see any ghosts so a star off for that. I think it'd be a fun thing to do for a date and I'd do it again for that purpose. But I'd probably do the one that focuses on The Driskill or maybe the Capital. we loved it! we were visiting family in Austin for my husband's 30th birthday which is on halloween. in my online research of the haunted Driskill hotel, which we stayed at for his birthday, i found the Austin Ghost Tour which sounded interesting. i had my sister in law purchase tickets in advance as we were worried it would sell out being so close to halloween and from the looks of the group we were with i bet it did sell out. our guide was Elizabeth, she was very good. she told stories in great detail, explained everything very well, entertained questions from the crowd and kept everyone involved. like the other reviewers i wish we could have actually went into some of these places, but no biggie. our favorite stop was the Driskill and this is where we got our 'orb' pictures. we really wanted to be freaked out here because were were staying here in just a few days! this was a really fun, unique experience that got us into the halloween spirit. read more
