This small airport is not a bad at all. It actually makes the experience very convenient and easy to get through compared to larger airports. The downside was the restrooms, which were not very clean during my visit and layout to the restroom felt a bit inconvenient.

The south terminal is small and approximately 15 minutes away from the main terminal by car. Two airlines, Frontier and Allegient, are based out of here. For both of our arrival and departing flights, we took the airport shuttle to leave and arrive at the south terminal. There were several shuttle buses waiting for passengers in our arrival flight. However, on our departing day, there was an ongoing winter storm so there were limited shuttle buses. We had to wait an hour for one to come pick us up. Luckily we had planned accordingly and therefore the long wait time did not delay us. There are two drink and food options at this terminal: De Nada Tacos, a food truck, and The Get Set, a snack shop with juice, alcohol, coffee, cold sandwiches, and personal pizzas. There was an ongoing winter storm so our flight was significantly delayed by three hours. My daughters and I managed to secure a few seats with a table and functional plug outlet. These are seemingly basic but it is very important with two restless kids with limited activity options outside of coloring sheets and screen time with a tablet. We tried the praline cold brew and pepperoni personal pizza. The praline cold brew was solid and smooth. The pizza is nothing to bring home about but it is a decent option for young children.

Certainly a problem with directions on how to get in there and where to park, but they have some staff to direct as possible. This is a very small terminal. Tiny but mighty! Seating is limited for two whole planes boarding at once, but not having to deal with full blown, international TSA screening is worth it. We only got there an hour early and had no trouble at all. Even with the government lockdown. They have booze, beer, fresh food, and snacks. A refuge for the weary traveler when they take Frontier or Allegiant.

If you're flying on Frontier or Allegiant airlines, pleases park at the South Terminal. You will be frustrated and mad at the world if you park at the North Terminal. The South Terminal is small and peaceful. There's one little store to buy snacks and a taco stand outside. The taco stand is gated in so you don't have to go through security again. Parking was easy and $12 per day.

I like this airport because if your flight is frontier then you can directly access to the gate! Pretty simple! Definitely utilize the daily $12 eco parking which is a walkable distance if you wanna closer then you can utilize $20 daily and you can park right in front of the terminal!

I genuinely was not aware that there was a south terminal at AUS. There's a first for everything, I guess! It was my first time flying with Allegiant (and tbh hopefully the last) and luckily I ordered the Uber straight to Allegiant instead of the general airport. A bit confusing if you don't know where you are going. The terminal itself is tiny. Only 2 gates, a bathroom, gift shop/bar, and little patio area where you can pretty much touch the planes next to you as you sip a beer. Kind of cool, but also weird. You also have to walk outside and onto the plane, since it is such a small terminal. Luckily, the weather was nice when I was there, but if not, you're out of luck. One good thing is that, since it is so small, there is virtually no TSA line. Check-in was also quick.

Staff is incredibly friendly, we did end up getting a delay which was unfortunate but I believe the margarita and pizza helped. There is no covered parking here but you do have the option to park in a fenced area. If you do choose to park at the main terminal please understand you have to take a shuttle bus, and be sure to be kind to the staff. They try and be fair for all passengers.

The South Terminal is by far this airport's best kept secret. I'm shocked it has such low reviews, and honestly I think it's because people are trying to gatekeep it! Security took seconds to get through, friendly workers, and parking is so easy! That alone is enough to make it a good experience, but there's more. They have a nice area outside to wait in and a taco truck! Tacos were delicious! Flights out of this terminal are cheap since it's Allegiant and Frontier. Affordable, comfortable, easy, and fast. (Only thing to be weary of is if you're traveling with a stroller & don't expect WiFi on your flight! I've heard several people have experienced frequent flight delays, but haven't experienced it myself yet. I'll come back to update the review if so!)

What a weird little airport. It's completely separate from the main terminal, which I wasn't expecting. I shared an Uber with friends and after the driver dropped them off at the main terminal, I was in the car for another 10 minutes to get to the south terminal. The terminal itself is super cute. It's got a retro chic kinda vibe to it, like an airport out of mad men. They have 2 food options, a food truck out on the patio and a coffee/bar bar inside with snacks and sodas and things. The Wi-Fi works great, I accidentally got to the terminal 3.5 hours before my flight and watched a couple of movies on my laptop so it was a fun way to spend time. I got tacos from the food truck and actually really enjoyed myself.

Ask the Community - Austin South Terminal

Which airlines fly out of this south terminal?

    Fontier and Allegiant

How long does TSA take if I have a 0950 flight?

I am sure it varies and there will be someone who flies more than me answer but I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to clear security.

Is there enough parking now that Frontier Airlines is also over there. I think they moved sometime in Nov 2018?

    Yes

Is TSA Precheck available at South Terminal?

No, TSA Pre-check isn't available so prepare accordingly. I wish it was available!

Do they serve alcohol in the south terminal?

They have liquor, wine and beer draft and cans.

Is there enough parking spaces here ? Which is a better option - going to main terminal and catch a shuttle or going directly to South Terminal?

    Enough parking at South Terminal

The hidden benefit is that I often have lots of extra time to stroll the concourse, get some steps in & blood flow going, and check out the interesting innovations, public art installations, and local flavor of the airports on my itinerary. Imagine my delight to find this little pocket of whimsy at the east end of the Barbara Jordan Terminal near Gate 14 (as if you're headed toward Delta and the Public Patio). The first indication of mystery is the infinity symbol on an overhead sign that would otherwise name a vendor or amenity. I simply had to stop & check it out. Procedure: Look at all the creative decor and signage. Smile. Step up to the kiosk, answer the questions, and generate your boarding pass (only virtual now, after originally being printable). Imagine yourself phasing through the physical barriers of reality into a different dimension of space & time! Verdict: Fun for all ages of folks with a good imagination, sense of humor, and decent reading habit in the sci-fi and fantasy genre. Cost: Zero dollars and just a few moments of time. Worth it!

I had a prompt and painless time checking my bags. The employees were super friendly and helpful at the desk, as well as the gate. Planes were clean, pilots and staff were friendly. We flew through quite a storm 30 mins prior to landing and despite that and the turbulence the pilots landed the plane better than any landing ive ever had. The key in my mind with this airline is to book the seats with more leg room, which actually I find to be more space than other airlines and THEN the seats also recline. I got the package that included checked bag, extra room seats, and carry on item. Yes its more, but the final price was still HALF what it would be with any other carrier. No frills as far as no in flight snacks, but id rather get something decent at the airport and bring it on the plane anyways.

I went to Miami to support a close friend whose husband passed unexpectedly at the age of 57.I arrived on Tuesday on an American flight, with no issues. It was a tough time, and I was anxious to get home. The return frontier flight was scheduled to leave at 7:30 AM Miami time on Friday12/5. I arrived at the airport by 5:15 am and headed to the counter to check in. Mary, the agent at the Frontier counter seemed to already be having a trying day, I said good morning and asked to be checked in for the 7:30 flight to Austin. I presented her with my valid ID and credit card as I was trying to check in a bag too big for a carry-on. First, she said she cannot check me in because she cannot print a boarding pass and luggage tag, but she charged me $104.00 for the bag. She then said she cannot check me in because there is a security issue in the computer attached to me and preventing her from checking me in and to step away from the counter. I asked if she could help me or call her supervisor to resolve the issue, she said she called her supervisor to find out what they can do, I need to step away from the counter. I call customer service, 1-8014019000, and got Sheila. She tries to help me get the boarding pass on the website, but we keep getting an error message. Sheila asks to speak to Mary who refuses to take the call, she ignores me, repeatedly tells me to step away from the counter, rudely, and she helps other customers. Now my voice is getting louder, and I am demanding to speak to her supervisor. It turns out her supervisor has been standing next to her all this time watching this exchange unfold, her name was Atinea or something like that. She finally identifies herself as the supervisor, and begins to tell me how she cannot help me? Well, who can? Where is the TSA Office, where is Airport Security? Can you call them over? What is the process? Atinea or whatever her name was takes my phone to speak to Sheila. She proceeds to tell Sheila, the customer Service rep on the phone, that there is a security issue in the computer preventing them from checking me in. They all tell me I will not be boarding this or any other flights until the issue is resolved. I ask again, how do I resolve this issue, I must get home. Thank God, at this point a Sergeant with Miami Dade Sheriff's department at MIA comes by and asks me what is going on. I tell him everything that has transpired and that I just got to Miami on Tuesday, with no issue, and that I have been a TSA pre-check for many years. I travel on regular basis and never had an experience like this. One of his officers, Officer Suarez, joins us, and listens to the story. He takes my ID's (Driver's License and US Passport card) and goes to the TSA office to check if there is a problem. I am still standing talking with the Sergeant whose name I neglected to get, he was so patient and kind, when Officer Suarez returns & tell us, me and the Sergeant, that there is no TSA or security problem. Officer Suarez goes behind the counter to speak to the Frontier Agents whose picture is attached below. Meanwhile, Sheila, customer service, on the phone refuses to refund my ticket, said she can only give me a credit, as if after this contemptible treatment I would use this airline ever again? I got charged for the seat and the bag. I still need to get home, the incredibly noble & kind Sergeant finds a flight on American, leaving at 8:30 AM. He asks Officer Suarez, to drive me to the American airlines terminal where I buy a ticket, board and get home with no problems or issues. Of course that cost me another $300 plus dollars. In conclusion: -Frontier and its staff are terrible. They are quick to take your money, without providing service or the seat you paid for. They will not support you if you have a problem, and certainly will not refund your ticket when they refuse to serve you even when they are wrong -The Agents, Mary and Atinea at MIA were unprofessional and unhelpful. It was clear they treat Frontier clients with contempt, disrespect, and disdain. I guess they hate their jobs. Maybe their poor treatment of the customers is a reflection of how Frontier treats them -Sheila, the agent on the phone, tried a little to be helpful, but was quick to give up and say not my problem. She was also quick to tell me your ticket is non-refundable, I will issue you a credit. -Beware of predatory business practices and policies when you fly, some of these airlines are getting away with very unsavory behavior
