Verbal communication with my initial nail technician, "Sam" was neither friendly, nor accommodating, however his craftsmanship was decent. I showed him a picture of the nails I wanted, and he said "No. We can't do that." I teased and pressured him, but he didn't respond. He did execute the basic shape and colors. Then, smiling, accommodating "Genny," took over. She repaired a few minor flaws that careless Sam had left on my base coats/acrylic edges. Then, she confidently and happily worked with me to achieve EXACTLY the look I wanted! Unless I'm just going for a quick polish, and no one else is available, I won't go to grumpy Sam again. But I WILL DEFINITELY RETURN AND REQUEST GENNY! I'm overjoyed by her work, and she was pleased with her work, herself. In fact she had me pose, and took pictures. I would've given Model Nails 5 stars, hands down, if I had only dealt with Genny. From now on, I know the trick, and will definitely go back, and see Genny!! read more

I have never had a bad experience before but this last visit was crazy. I rarely get my nails done unless for special occasion. I came in and there were no guests nor technicians only a receptionist and another employee asleep in the chairs. I had to wait for a tech to come in. when she finally did, she rushed and was rough! my nails are scabbed over, I have hangnails from where she filed my nail under acrylic. I just paid $40 for the worst manicure I have ever had. Based on the positive reviews for the salon, and the fact that I was on that side of town, I chose to go to Model Nails on a Sunday afternoon. It was just after 12 PM when I walked in and there was only one technician available who had clearly brought her son with her to work and he was playing games on his computer. I sat down to get my gel manicure and she began working on me. I have literally not had a manicure in months probably six because I've been trying to get my nails in better shape. They were really ripped up from getting constant gel manicures. I have an interview on Tuesday and I wanted my nails to look nice . So the first indication that it wasn't gonna be a good manicure was she brought a bowl of COLD soapy water to soak my fingers in. Technically, I guess you'd say she did push my cuticles back, but only in that she touched my nails with the tool. She proceeded to clip the cuticle and they're a mess. I'm gonna post pictures. Painting my nails was the worst. She rushed through and did not leave any anytime for drying. I would have my hand under the light and only once or twice did the alarm actually beep before she had me pull my hand out so she could put on the next layer of paint. Because of that they are uneven and the paint itself looks like it's dried thicker in some places on my nails than others. The salon was fairly dark and the only place that you could really get a good light on what your hands looked like was sitting in the window and I did that and saw how bad they looked and then approached one of the other technicians. She told me I could get it redone by the same person. No, thank you. I got the price for the "service" and paid with no tip. I advise you to not go on a Sunday right at noon and ask for a gel manicure because clearly acrylics are there specialty. read more

My daughter and I came in at 7pm. I got a pedi/mani with gel and my daughter got a gel manicure. She requested colored tips only. The lines were very uneven, some thick some thin. The whole time we were there they were chatting among one another making remarks about wanting to get home. The services provided were very rushed and I felt like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. Two other customers came in after us. One employee laughed as they entered and it was obvious she did not want to start 2 new pedicures. They guests even apologized for coming in and asked if they were closing. She insisted that they sit down and that she would provide whatever services they requested. However, it was obvious that she made them uncomfortable with her remarks. My experience here was horrible, the nail tech rushed cutting 4 of my cuticles to the point they were bleeding. She left glue all over my fingers. She didn't shape them properly I asked for square and I can't even explain what shape they are. I just left Model Nails. I have been going here since moving to Lexington in 2016, albeit a few times a year (for regular or gel manicures or pedicures). I called before I came to check on the wait and was told there was no wait to come on in. I live less than 5 minutes away, so I hurried over and checked in and sat down. There was 2 customers being served in the manicure area in 2 of the pedicure area. I came in for a simple nail polish manicure and brought my own polish. I waited for 10-15 minutes and left. Not due to the wait, but because the female nail technician in the manicure section was yelling and berating a female customer. The customer was in the middle of getting her nails done and wanted ombré nails, not 1 color. She asked the technician if she was a nude/beige color and the technician said no. Thinking the nail technician didn't understand her, she politely tried to rephrase her request in a very respectful way. The technician became very angry and combative and kept saying no and got angrier and angrier. The customer said "you mean you had no nude colors in the WHOLE store" and that is when the nail technician stood up and yelled and screamed at the customer (who kept her calm the entire time and was very respectful). I was so disgusted by the behavior that I left and walked out. They lost my business for good. You never speak to a customer that way. read more

I went to get my nails done for prom and showed a picture of what I wanted. The nail tech I had did not seem to take her time and kept cutting my fingers with the file. When I left my nails looked very nice but the next day I started to notice cracks in the acrylic and bumpy bubbles from the gel top coat. I've had three sets of SNS nails done here, had several cracked SNS nails repaired here on separate occasions, had two pedicures, and my six year old daughter has had a manicure/pedicure here... so I think I've had enough of a variety of experiences here to write a fair review of Model Nails. My first visit here, I got a pedicure and my daughter got a mani/pedi. My pedicure was fine. My daughter's was SUPER rushed. The woman who did it was frantic trying to hurry and get it done and it was making my daughter nervous. The manicure was also rushed. The nail tech did one coat instead of two and it chipped before we even got home. She's been getting manicures and pedicures since she was 2 years old at various salons in Lexington and we've never had an experience like that. Now onto the SNS nail experience... (SNS is a dip-powder system) My first set, I asked for tips to be put on because I like the nice, even squared look rather than the rounded look that my natural nails have. The woman who did it did not clip my nails at all (which were kind of long) before she put the tips on. I suppose I should have asked her to, but I'd never had SNS nails and figured she knew what she was doing. I noticed after I left that my nails were lifting up under the tips, there was a ledge between the tip and my natural nail (kind of like acrylics do when they're weeks old and need to be filled in!) It was really bothersome to not have the tip flush against my nail so I went back after a week and a half for a new set. The gentleman who did this set was wonderful. David, I believe his name was. He told me I should wait 3-4 weeks to come in for a new set because SNS nails are so sturdy. Sure enough, he was right. At about the 4 week mark one nail cracked. Otherwise, they were perfect. The nails were flush against my natural nail and they held up super well. Now, my third set of SNS nails. This was probably my worst experience here. The gentleman who did these nails shaped several of them differently and left several different lengths. I asked if he could shape them all similarly and he told me that he does "a lot of SNS nails" I guess implying that I was being silly for requesting my nails all look similar. Anyways. Four days after I got them put on, two cracked. I went in and got them fixed. The gentleman who fixed them "sanded"(not sure the appropriate term!) down the SNS coating and then re-dipped them three times. He told me I should ask for 3 "dips" of SNS instead of two next time. Couple days later... two more nails cracked. The lady who fixed them was not helpful at all. She barely sanded off the color and you could still see the cracks! I pointed this out and she kept saying "Oh it's OK, it's OK." Two nails were cracked, but she only re-dipped one nail in the color and only re-dippedi t once! She kept saying that the other one would be OK. I told her I could still see the cracks in both nails and she said "No, no cracks." Seriously? I told her that I thought it needed to be dipped again and she was trying to argue with me over dipping it again, insisting that it was "OK." I mean, if you have an unhappy customer with a cracked nail that you're not even fixing properly and they want their nail dipped another time... maybe just DO IT for them instead of saying it's OK!? Geesh. Two days later, I've got 3 more cracked nails. I'm not super hard on my nails. One cracked from helping my 2 year old put on his shoe, for goodness sake. This last set of nails was complete crap which is why I'm going to have them soaked off and find elsewhere to take my nail-business. read more

Then lady came over and I told her and she didn't want to do what I requested. All I wanted was a pink color a bit darker then the original they use for French. She said no it won't look right. I said I just want to make them similar to my feet, she said no it won't look right. She asked where did I get my feet done and I told her and she says "you can go over there". This was my first visit here. I was very pleased. **bonus points for cleanliness: they use a disposable liner in the pedi bowl for each client** I arrived at 7pm, an hour prior to closing. They were somewhat busy and I did have to wait a little bit. I chose to have a spa pedicure with French tips. Kelly did my pedi, she was awesome, very friendly, spent a lot of time massaging my legs and feet. My only complaint, and it's a small one, was that I really enjoy and prefer when massages concentrate on the bottom of my feet, her massage was more on my legs and tops of my feet and toes. In my first review I admitted this place was expensive, today I was LIED TO and scammed out of money. I got a full set, a pedicure and eyebrows. When I got my pedicure I was told $35, even with the gel paint. She NEVER said I would have to pay any extra. She just quoted me 35. At the register they charged me $50 ... now I work hard, I have the money but the principal is that a LINA said 1 thing and purposefully deceived me. If I knew it was that expensive I would've passed. Hell, my nails were only $37 and I got a full acrylic. I will NEVER be back. Was a customer here for over 17 years. Loved it. This year it was sold and the new owners have changed everything wonderful about this place to the point that both my mother and I (she also had been coming for over 18-19 years) decided that we could no longer continue to be customers here. If you enjoy being herded like cattle, in & out; or you don't want your tech to listen to what you ask for, or even do a marginal good job, then go ahead and waste your money here. I however, enjoy my nails being on point & I like my tech to pay attention to what I ask for and strive to do a good job. The last straw was when I asked, 3 Times, please soak off my SNS and don't use the drill (and yes I understand they use the drill for a moment to remove the top coat prior to soaking) and they used the drill anyway, to the point my natural nail HURT and was HOT, I knew I needed a change. I let it slide one last time because we were going on a family vacation and we decided to make an appointment with all the girls together to get SNS or Gel along with pedicures. Not only were they not ready for the appointment that we booked 3 weeks in advance, the new guy doing my toes genuinely acted like he had better things to be doing than my toes. He actually disappeared for several minutes with zero explanation. All four of us left that day feeling dissatisfied and disappointed. I was also pretty heated that after REPEATEDLY asking for Michael to do my & my nieces nails that we were both pushed off to other techs. That was the last time I gave them my money. I went to another salon for the past several months, but just found Michael again right across the way next to Hooters at Viva Nails! He and his wife bought the place and have just finished renovating it. Prices are the same and the service is MUCH MUCH MUCH better! Today I had the best pedicure that I've had in YEARS there! Seriously, don't waste your time, money, or energy here because the new owners have ruined what was once a great salon. Normally I love Model Nails! My mother and I both frequent the salon (me every 2 weeks, her once a month). Normally I also have really good service and today was not one of those days. I do work in customer service/the service industry. So please understand I am a lot more patient than most lol I made an appointment earlier in the week for a gel pedicure with Tommy. I made sure to let the person I was on the phone with know I had an engagement at 5:00. I get to the salon 10 mins prior to my appointment (which was at 2:30 pm so I arrived at 2:20pm) I walk through the door and I'm not acknowledged. Okay whatever, y'all are busy... I understand! I sign in like normal and take a seat and wait. Let's fast forward to 2:45pm lol at least I've gotten into some water at this point! I've had to stop someone and tell them what time my appointment was. They sat me down in a DIRTY chair, filled my bowl up with lukewarm water and didn't even turn the darn jets on! It's like 2:55pm when the tech I requested finally walks over. He has to move me to another chair, refill my bowl, he finally hands me the gel nail color bucket, and proceeds to rush through my pedicure (which of course because of time I appreciate but who wants a half-a** pedicure). I am not used to this here at all, but because of it I won't be back. I wouldn't bother going here on the weekend or any time you feel like a lot of people may be around. I love going to model nails. They are quick while still being precise, the pedicures are super nice and all the pedicure baths have liners. They have tons of SNS color options as well as paint options. All of the employees are very nice. They're pedicure prices are fair and definitely worth the price. I love this place! They are always so quick ! They offer several Services. I have gotten a pedicure and a wax and a manicure before from them and they do a phenomenal job. I refer all my friends to go there and all of my friends that go say they love it and then it returned. I don't want them to change the thing about this place. It's close to my house right off of Richmond Road easy to get to from New Circle. They're one of the only places I know that's open on Sundays and there still isn't a wait. He did a rushed sloppy horrible job! They have grown out just a little and I can't even put my hands in my hair for the cuticle area ripping out a piece of my hair. Normally a good nail tech will file this area so the nail doesn't appear thick and bulgy. Well he was just lazy and barely filed them, and didn't even allow them to completely dry I. Between coats. I just received the best pedicure of my life, and I'm an avid pedicure getter!! David the nail technician did a wonderful job and was SUPER thorough. I chose their deluxe pedicure from their new pedicure options. David spent a solid hour rubbing my lower legs and feet with hot oil, hot stones and special conditioning lotion. I have never had a bad experience here. You have to know the right times to come because they can get really busy. Kim the owner is always so nice and attentive too. I have been here so many times and it used to be great but idk why I keep giving it chances now. Over the past year I've been back twice. The first time my sns was super thin and cracked in 3 days. Last week Sophia did my acrylics because my regular shop is closed. They are crooked, uneven length, and point up, which doesn't happen with my regular guy. I pointed it out to her and she just saying they were fine. They're awful and now I have to go back to my regular guy and have them redone.
