The other restaurant I had to try for dinner before leaving Tijuana was, Mochomos. Once again, relentless homework, that helped me discover it. Also located on an upper level, it is touted to specialize in meats. Since I had been eating meat for more than one course, at Animal Tijuana (next door) the day before, I decided to start with something different. Perhaps, a menu item that I've never had before.
So I ordered the Camarones Chigüili (Stewed shrimp in beer and chill sauce, accompanied with goat cheese dressing). Yes, the shrimp was spicy, but nice and plump, good size, several pieces and abundantly portioned. New flavor, for me. It balanced well with the creamy goat dressing. And for that unsolicited starch calling, I ordered their mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, or fortunately, this filled me up. I had a taste for dessert, but they only had a dessert menu that was in Spanish (sorry there were a lot of descriptions, and I needed to understand them in English). Just so you know....the rest of the other menu also had an English version. Not a problem. No hard feelings.
Maybe a sign from the Sugar Gods, for me to quit eating, ask for the check. I saw some desserts on adjoining tables, they are large portions, looked fantastic, that need to be shared. So I had to decline. Once again, I was super impressed with the multiple servers. And the exquisite caliber of their staff and the warm dining hospitality, that is a characteristic, of Mexican dining. I was blown away. It is rare to experience this kind of consistent care and service, in a restaurant in LA. Sorry, I have to be blunt. This evening was another hard to forget treat, into sampling the fine dining landscape, south of the border, in this vibrant city of Tijuana. read more
