Stumbled upon this mochi donut place while visiting friends at UCR. This Mochi Lion is located near UC Riverside and it was easy to grab a box of mochi donuts for dessert. Parking is very convenient here. There's both a small parking lot and street parking available, so finding a spot is usually pretty easy compared to busier plaza locations . Definitely good for a quick in-and-out stop, which makes it even more appealing. When I entered the store, there was no one in sight. I had waited a few minutes before I called out to see if staff was around. When she came out she was also moving a bit slow and asked what I had wanted and I got a box of various donut flavors and was out the door. I have to say some of the donut were fresh and chewy and some you can tell were sitting around and tasted a bit stale. I think next time I visit here, I will ask for which flavors that are recently made fresh and go from there. Also will try their Nu Scoops high protein low calorie ice cream and mochidog next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

The Korean fried corn dogs themselves were really good, we got the sweet potato corn dog and two half-and-half corn dogs with Hot Cheetos, and flavor-wise they definitely hit. Crispy, filling, and worth trying if you're into corn dogs. That said, the service kind of killed the vibe. The staff member working seemed visibly unhappy, no greeting, no smile, and the overall energy made it feel like we weren't welcome there. Waiting for our food felt awkward, like we needed to keep an eye on things because she seemed in such a bad mood. It shouldn't feel uncomfortable just standing there waiting for your order. Mochinut -- err, I mean -- Mochi Lion Riverside (new name) is located just off the 60 Freeway and University exit, near UCR. They offer mochi donuts that were popularized in Japan (Hello, Mister Donut!) in various flavors. They are slightly sweet but nice to have occasionally. And they make the cutest gifts if you don't want to show up empty-handed. These donuts would instantly bring a smile to anyone's face. They are cute and delicious! They do have a rotating menu so be sure to check back often for any new flavors you want to try out. I'd come here more often but the parking situation steers me away - there's just not enough parking spaces. But if you're patient, they are worth it. Came here with my husband and first off the place was so dirty, there was a young girl dressed like she just got out of bed, hair all wild and headphones on while we ordered. I am 8 months pregnant and asked for the bathroom key and she didn't say a word, kept doing whatever she was doing and then just walked to the back I had no idea she was unlocking the door, kept her headphones on the entire time. Just a small shop when you walk in. Tried just buying the items one by one: 2 corn dogs and 3 donuts, would've costed 24 bucks, but they had a cheaper for 20 bucks. It was a pretty long wait time though, 2 to 3 customers did come in after us, but was super excited when it was ready. I was disappointed though when I bit into it and discovered that the dough was still raw, and it was difficult to eat it since it's like smothered in hot cheetos. It could've used a minute or 2 longer in the fryer. Cute place for a donut not really a place to stay and eat it at, they do have tables but it's pretty small so if people are ordering you don't have a whole lot of space for privacy, service was really good the donuts were delicious, I got the watermelon kiwi drink and it was way to sugary. This place is a little in the expensive side, but I would go back for a donut whenever I wanna splurge at $3.50 each ;) plus the packaging is cute. There is ample parking outside but lots of house less individuals outside. Decided to try something new with my partner and I, walking in the place immediately reeked like sewer water something we knew was not delightful to the environment, for it to be a "donut shop". We walked in a girl came around the corner didn't greet us, mind you she also had AirPods in which is against food establishment policies. we acknowledged her but she carelessly didn't say anything at all not even a single hello? How are you guys? She ignored us and stared at us like we were inconveniencing her. We were in that place for 2 minutes and walked out due to discomfort and disrespect to us as the customers. I am late to the Korean hotdog game, so I was hoping that after all these years most establishments would have their food right. Not to say the food was awful, I guess I was expecting better. I ordered two items: original dog (half cheese half meat) and potato (half cheese half meat). The items themselves were alright. This is my first time trying, so I don't have anything to compare it to. The sugar on the original was a nice touch. Sightly sweet with a crunchy for an ASMR moment. The dough was weird though. After a few bites of both items, I couldn't stomach the rest. Felt like such a waste. What was asp disappointing was the lack of knowledge the staff had about pricing. Menu inside reads that the prices for what I ordered were $4.99 and 5.99 respectively. When I was rung up my total was over $12. I typically don't pay attention or mind, but it just didn't make sense. I asked, "is this after tax?" The cashier said, "I don't know." What? Then I reference the menu above her, and she asks the other staff. They looked so confused. I was then told I'm charged for the boxes the food comes in. Okay fine. But I don't need a box for each item, and also WTF? Please inform your customers about what they are being charged for. I'm not trying to complain about .20, but this happens way too often - people don't know what's happening, staff and customers alike are not paying attention, and that day I happened to not be in the mood to be hustled out of extra coin I guess! This place was disgusting! It's a rated B for a reason. I had to ask them for my money back, which I never do. I walked in immediately and saw old food splat on the side of the wall , when making my drink, they used an ice bucket, which is dirty on the inside of it around the rim play close attention. There was a guy that came out the back with the old In-N-Out T-shirt on with dog hair covered in it to help the young lady make my drink. They pulled my hot dog from the fridge and the hotdog. Super yummy corn dogs and donuts. While the location is a bit inconvenient to access, I try my best to keep returning! Love the consistency of the donuts as they are always chewy and sweet! I do enjoy the changes in flavors. Staff is always helpful and the person that took my order saw I didn't like my drink too much and changed it out for me no problem. However, one thing I will say is the inside is by no means the cleanest. The paint on the walls is visibly scuffed and the inside carries an unpleasant odor of shoes and resembles that of a Chuck-E-Cheese play area. Quite the change since my last review a couple months ago. Criticism aside, the wait was short and I'm not sure why it isn't busy.. I plan on keeping this spot in my back pocket! read more

Review is JUST on the mochinut "donuts". 2.5 really? I get it but I don't? I like the consistency and it they ARE different, chewier and funnier than donuts, but they're not $20 for 6 mochinuts good. The frosting is so minimal on these that they hardly contribute to the flavor in my opinion. I would be happier with a cheap plain glazed donut from Yum Yums than a mochinut at their price.
