Holy crap on a cracker I love this place! Maybe I'm a fish and chips snob....ok I probably am. I don't order it when I go out anymore because it always sucks ...ALWAYS. My b/f insisted we go to Moby Dicks to have their fish ..probably to shut my complaining up. It worked. Please note...when you order a piece of fish they give you a second piece. Glad he told me this for when I ordered my one piece and it came with two gigantic pieces I was shocked and happy all at once. The fish was perfect. The batter wasn't too thick. It actually tasted great! instead of tasting like nothing coated with cardboard! Their homemade tarter sauce was SO good. lemony and tangy...yum. The coleslaw was great. not too glooped up with mayo, which everyone hates! My boyfriend had fries, fried oysters and calamari. It was really good! I do like oysters, I like them raw, deep fried and from the can...these deep fried guys were SO good. you could taste the sea. perfect. We sat outside and it was beautiful out. Enjoyed very tasty spicy Caesars and enjoyed the sunshine. They were hopping busy and had a line up even before they opened. This is a great place to come and just soak up Whiterock and enjoy what BC has to offer for food and weather. When you see a line up like they have everyday its a huge indicator that they are good....people don't wait 20 mins for bad fish and chips! We stopped by on our way home from our weekend trip to Vancouver. Originally we wanted to try the Indian restaurant two doors down but the guy said there's only one of him and he can't serve us.. He can only read our palms -_- yah. Anyways we decided to grab a bite at Moby Dick instead. Most of us got the fish and chips, the batter was really good but I thought it was a little thick. We were disappointed. We were here three years ago and remember it being better than it is now. The batter was rather too thick resulting in it being under-cooked and soggy on the inside. The fish itself was fresh though. We weren't too hungry and ordered two one piece meals so it seemed a little wasteful to be presented with two two piece meals. Better to stick to the single piece and knock a little off the price rather than the second piece of fish that we couldn't finish. I used to love coming here, it was always a special treat for our family. Went here yesterday and was SOOOOOOO disappointed. Ordered a 2 pice fish and chips, and could not believe how small the portion size was, 3 tiny little pieces of fish each no bigger than 3" in size. This is pathetic considering how large they used to be. And a for 20$. We found out about Moby Dick through other friends with British origins living in the Pacific Northwest. It was recommended as one of the most authentic English-style fish and chip experiences. The restaurant is small and has a family run atmosphere. The range of fish menu items was limited to a few, but did include burgers and various other non-fish items. Service was very prompt and friendly and costs were low. The white fish wasn't superb, but was fine and accompanied by a nice home-made Tartar. The fried shrimp were similarly ok but not great. However, the Chips were, as promised, very authentic English style - thicker, less crispy. A much more tasty experience, and provided with plenty of malt vinegar as needed. The ambiance of the place is outdated and tacky... but cute and fun. The service was alright, our waitress was kind of snobby, but I looked passed that cause she was super busy. We sat inside and took our order for takeout. My boyfriend was hot and wanted a beer. When we got our takeout order the fish looked good, huge portions, and quick too... However I think that was a problem... The batter was mushy, and tasted like mass produced cat food. We ended up feeding half of the food to the bird, and we both left with a terrible stomach ache. Sad to say, this was our favourite place to go for fish, but had rubbery fish served to us, yesterday, my Daughter n I are sick now, and last night, from it. She couldn't even cut with a knife, first time being served this quality, staff friendly about it, and replaced fish with new ones, and one of the pieces was still bad, manager might want to look into incident, you don't want to be making people sick! I'm going to start off by saying I am shocked that Moby Dick only has an overall 3.5 star rating! This is hands down the best fish and chips on the White Rock strip, maybe even in the lower mainland. My life was pretty much over when I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance because I can no longer eat these seriously unreal fish and chips. All components are made in house: tarter sauce, badder and fries. The fish is always fresh and meaty and the fries are unlike any others. They are not the processed, crispy, cheap restaurant style fries, no they are softer amazing real potato looking fries. I can't even decide if the fish or fries are better! The restaurant itself is small and not overly nice inside, however this place is much more designed to do takeout not dine-in. It's the White Rock strip though so why wouldn't you get it to go and eat on the beach? Moby Dick is just amazing. Can I just start by saying: if you have never visited this place before and you reside near the White Rock/South Surrey area, you are totally missing out. I can mostly only speak on their vegetarian options here, but my goodness, their fries are absolutely amazing. Like, mmmmm! If you're visiting during the summer, go early because once they run out of potatoes for the fires, they're out for the rest of the day. Great scenic surroundings for this Fish and Chips restaurant. Take full advantage of the location, setting yourself up across the road on the greens to enjoy lunch/dinner with a view. The food is good though nothing to get overexcited about. Value for money is guaranteed as you'll get more than you can eat for under ten bucks. Fish is fresh and flavorsome, the batter is good though a bit thick, just the fries which I can't endorse as anything more than 'average'. Coming from Belgium I might be a bit harsh when it comes to fries. Homemade tartar sauce was okay. I have been here twice, the first time I ordered the 2 piece fish and chips and received 3 pieces, the second time I ordered the 1 piece fish and chips and received 2 pieces. Fish is waaay over battered so thanks for the 2nd piece but it too, was over battered and over done. The waitress had asked us "salad or fries?" ... salad for my friend, fries for me. Salad turns out to be $4.95 with no mention of that and if that was the case, I should have had the fries. THE BEST Fish and chips around!! Crispy fried cod and piles of fries! unbeatable tartar..if you are a tartar fan go for the large or you will run out way before your done eating! Don't be fooled by the "1 piece" "2 piece" option....they serve by weight which translates to at least 1 extra piece every time :-) Heads up! The sampler items were well done, nice crispy breading. This isn't fine dining. This is casual fried food. If you're looking for decent quality fried seafood then you will be very satisfied. Seriously one of the most brilliant places to stop in and eat. For the fish and chips order you get an extra piece of fish than the menu had said you were receiving. For example a 2 piece fish and chips would yield 3 pieces of fish and a 3 piece would yield you 4 etc. I believe this was well executed as I definitely wanted more than the 2 I ordered after I had eaten them and there was a 3rd waitin for me. The batter is thick and crunchy and the fish tastes fresh. I think what made this treat especially delicious was their Tartar sauce which wasn't chunky like you would normally find in a tartar. It's taste by far elevated the fish to a whole new level. It is a very small place and can get packed really easily so if you decide to go to either sit in or eat out take a look at time and make your best bet, also doesn't hurt to call in and ask how the wait would be for either take out or dine in. The staff was also great, the cook (or even chef) brings food out of the kitchen to the servers who then graciously being it to your table. They are very friendly and outgoing. The decor is very fun, lots of random posters and such usually making you giggle as well as some interesting facts about how popular this place really is on a national standpoint. It's of fish nets and other sea worthy materials adding to the decor that definitely feel appropriate. You gotta check this place out. read more

My wife and I have raved about Moby Dick's fish and chips for several years now... sadly until today. We put in a phone order for one piece of fish and chips (to share between us, as we're seniors). I picked it up and gave them a 22% tip (thinking also about Covid-19 losses). When we unwrapped the fish, it was literally dripping with oil, which made it uneatable. I dutifully phoned and asked for the owner, who said his name was Yuri. I explained the problem, expecting him to offer me a new piece of fish, but to my surprise he curtly told me that is what happens to take-out and there was nothing he could do about it. I'm sorry, too much hype for this place. I had the worst service ever. Walked in the restaurant and there was a line up at the counter. Nobody greeted us as well. So we were kinda lost because it was our fist time there. We had to line up just to put our names down. Since we were the 3rd one on the list, we patiently wait outside. 1st party was being called, and the 2nd party was called out as well. So we were suppose to be next. We saw an empty table for 2 while we were waiting outside and we were starting to wait for our turn impatiently. After half and hour or more, Hallelujah! We were called, and guess what, being seated at that empty spot. Servers weren't attentive at all. And all they serve is just one kind of fish. No Halibut, cod or salmon. Nobody came to check up on us at all. Totally understandable because they were so busy but the servers were also slow. Fries were burnt. Very disappointed. Terrible service and terrible fish! I thought with the high rating it would be great but we were very disappointed. The onion rings that came w/ my nephews kids dish were decent. Fries were soggy but edible. But the fish had a thick thick layer of almost raw batter. Even if the fish were good I wouldn't return after the poor attitude we rec'd. The young waitress was very nice but the blonde lady in her 50's that 'helped' us take our order was just an ornery ol women. I'm not sure if she was the owner or manager but just awful customer service skills. My sister went in to purchase a bottle of water after we rec'd our meals & she may as well have thrown it at her. I am disappointed in this place. It's mostly all hype because of location. Eating is is a major let down as it is pretty ugly inside. The fish is ok, fries too brown. There is no free or validated parking which really kills the opportunity to come here. I've had better fish and chips elsewhere for a lot cheaper. I will not patronize a restaurant unless they offer complimentary parking or if I live in the area. read more

Clam chowda. Get the cup or the bowl of clam chowder. It's delicious. I would like to think it's their own special recipe. I love the fries - I think they are sweet potato. When you order 1 piece fish n chips u get 2 pieces fish, when you order 2 piece fish n chips, u actually get 3... etc etc. Not sure if that is a common courtesy of fish and chipping but my appetite sure appreciates it. I like this place better than Cockney King's and Mr. Pickwick's (at the moment, I can't remember the other F&C places I've been to). Good tartar sauce although it's not included so u have to pay extra for it. The ladies bathroom is super cramped - it's the size of a stall. The decor is fun to look at (including in the bathroom). Nice people and good food and good rep keeps the business going and going. I will be back for more fish and chips and chowder. And YOU need to try the fish and chips and chowder if you've never been here before- possibly highly overrated but I definitely highly recommend :) $20 +/- should fill up a regular adult. read more
