Then when i handed him the cash he said it was also $29 for the service fee and I said you didn't tell me this, you quoted $80-$120 which I gave you and he practically harassed me for the $29 service fee but honestly it was him just swindling me and he got his instant karma because he couldn't get the lock off his drill, or got stuck! I know, I know... but the quote was in line with what the handyman said the job would cost so ok, fine. On Friday morning, the first employee took the locks apart, realized he didn't have the part to finish the job and put the locks back together. He said that this part normally would cost $30 more but that he would do it for the quoted price on Monday. Ok, that happens. But when I went to leave, the handle fell apart in my hands. Many, many hours later, they sent another employee to fix the handle who was actually able to do the job that the first guy couldn't. Great, right? Problem is, I was charged more than twice the quoted price and was told I should take it up with the office but that I had to pay it. I said that HE should call the office (surely he had some way to reach them, even at 10:00pm on a Friday--and yes, I had been stuck at home all day) but he refused. I pointed out that the first guy hadn't mentioned anything more than a potential $30 difference. Nope, I had to cough up the $200. (Or, rather, my boyfriend did, just to get the guy to leave.) So I contacted the office and couldn't get any phone call or email back. I wasn't nearly as adamant as I could have been (I felt uncomfortable getting aggressive with a pushy, sketchy locksmith company that knows where I live.) but I definitely made my problems known and they chose to ignore me. Even a dealership wanted a fortune to get it made by the manufacturer with a long wait for delivery. Then I spotted X Locksmith in the halls of the Watertown Mall, just across from the Registry. I was not expecting a positive answer, especially since the "shop" isn't even a building. It's a couple of counters and a display case. They service all kinds of sexy newer cars, but they did not for a second hesitate to help with my "old lady" car. I recently lost one of my keys and decided to get a couple of replacements. George is still terrific. No problem that it's an older car. In less than an hour he cut and programmed two new keys and even threw in an extra manual key so I would have a "backup." The service provider called me back at 12:37pm and advised he would be in my place in 25-30min. After 35min I called him back and he said he was still 10min away. After 50min I then called the central again and the provider called me back saying he was 2min away (he blamed the rain but it was barely raining and it had just started). After 55min he then showed up in my place and charged me a $99 call out fee (even though he was more than 30min later than he initially said). The provider charged me $350 + GST on top of the $99 fee to open my door and did not want to accept credit card payment (he wanted a bank transfer). I said I could not make a bank transfer and he called someone else to who I would have to provide my credit card details, which I thought I did not have with me as I was expecting to just tap my card. While I was trying to juggle my baby and find a picture of my credit card to pass on him the details, he then came to me with my credit card in his hands which he "had found on the desk". I did not know my credit card was there and he obviously went through my personal stuff as I was not in the room and "found my credit card" for me. I passed my credit card details to the person on the phone and I was charged $493 in total. I requested a Tax Invoice and the provider literally ran away down the stairs and until the present moment I have not heard from him nor anyone else about the receipt.
