Loved this place so much we came back twice! Delicious pancakes, stellar kind service, and a wonderful hip hop vibe. There's a unique combination of good food and humor one doesn't see often in food service. Very much hope this place is still here and flourishing whenever we are back in Amsterdam

The Bubba Sparxxx, pulled chicken, cobb salad, grilled corn, parsley, rainbow cherry tomatoes, chives, crème fraîche, avocado

Moak takes the humble American pancake and turns them into ingredient loaded, sweet and savory versions perfect for the gram. Their menu is a memorable one, with tongue-in-cheek rap references. If you are feeling extra, you can order the 100 euro "Golddigger" which comes with not one, but three 22-carat gold leaves and rosé champagne. I'm pre-IPO, so I opted for the more affordable "Bubba Sparxxx". But I splurged on the avocado add on. This millennial couldn't resist. I'm not sure how I went through life without knowing the wonder of BBQ sauce on pancakes. The corn, tomato, cobb salad, and pulled chicken were like a summer picnic in one. The pancake itself was not sweet. I bravely added their house maple syrup, and the sweetness actually enhanced the crazy combo. I dined alone so didn't get sample other pancakes, but the sweet towers passing by looked exciting as well. I enjoyed this concept - visually appealing, unique pancakes and fun flavor combos. The ingredients themselves were fine, nothing standout. Together though they made for a tasty meal. I left satisfied and with an added perk of the Ms. New Booty chorus happily stuck in my head.

My Dutch buddy suggested we check out MOAK Pancakes West for breakfast. Note, these are American style pancakes (not Dutch). They have a second location downtown. We dropped in on a Wednesday morning (around 11:00am). The inside is huge and tables go further back then you'd expect. The menu is split into yogurt bowls, salads & avocado bowls, American pancakes, Moak favourites and vegan American pancakes. They really are stoked about their organic maple syrup, which comes from Canada. Had no clue you could get maple syrup from Nova Scotia. It was light in flavour. Where I come from, the best Canadian maple syrup is from Quebec. - Latte (€3,75 large) - good coffee flavour and balanced the amount of milk well. The extra foam was a nice touch. - The paid in full (€10,50) - baba ganoush, sweet African pepper mix, avocado, artichoke and olive oil. They give you a good dollop of eggplant spread. Avocado was creamy but there was way too much artichoke. Pancake itself was better here than in the infamous. - The infamous (€11,50) - banana, chocolate sauce, peanut butter, strawberries, blackberries and cinnamon. The bananas were the tastiest of the fruit. Nice that the chocolate sauce wasn't overly sweet. The pancake wasn't great; dry and really needed maple syrup drizzled over it. That helped somewhat. Hipster American style pancakes but I wouldn't come back.

The breakfast/brunch spot is very trendy inside, but some of their items are very basic and there isn't really anything special about their food. We got the pancakes covered in chocolate sauce with fresh berries and bananas as well as avocado pulled chicken and corn salad (5 euros). The avocado was too firm. The lattes however are very good, although not strong in terms of espresso shots. I probably wouldn't come back here again.

Cool vibes, great pancakes. So good we came back again the day left Amsterdam. Both the sweet and savory pancakes were amazing and everyone loved them!

This place is awesome! One of the best pancake places in Amsterdam. Hipster atmosphere with pictures of T-pac on the walls :-). We did have to wait outside for a few minutes but they got us seated right by the window up front which was a fun view. The pancakes were delish! My kids and I had a the infamous and my husband had the pink lady. He was a little skeptical about getting salmon on a pancake but it was excellent. All of their pancakes are sugar free but chocolate, peanut butter, cinnamon and a bunch of fruit still is an explosion of flavor. Check this place out!

Blue Magic Deluxe with peanut butter

I am still dreaming about these pancakes from 4,103 miles away. THAT is saying something. I came here with two of my girlfriends, and I ordered the Blue Magic Deluxe and added peanut butter. I have no regrets. I ended up adding more maple syrup (because who has ever had TOO much syrup) and it was perfect! The décor in this place is bright and inviting, and extra points for the biggie mural downstairs. The workers are super friendly and patient, which we really appreciated as we studied the menu for a few minutes too long. Overall if you're a fan of pancakes, I definitely recommend checking out Mook. Also... add the peanut butter, you will not be disappointed :)

The Ice Ice Baby, complete with house-made Saffron pistachio ice cream!
    Amy N.

What is saffron doing in my pancakes and why is it so good?? Lovely staff and a fun atmosphere - popping by on a Saturday morning around 10AM got us a table right away, along with mouthwatering pancakes. I slowly devoured the decadent Ice Ice Baby - featuring a scoop of house-made saffron pistachio ice cream and covered in Canadian maple syrup. My friends went the fruity route and had the blue magic & blue magic deluxe pancakes. Needless to say, we didn't speak much for the first several minutes, except to communicate through a series of groans and ridiculous face-making over how delicious our meals were. The pancakes withstood the syrup, maintaining excellent fluffy texture, and I was stoked at how perfectly made my cappuccino was. I'd say they're absolutely worth the wait if you encounter one, and hot tip - just take your bill up to the counter to settle up when you're done!

We got there around 11 and there was no wait (there was a pretty good sized line when we left). Interesting menu of American style pancakes (with toppings - sweet and/or savory), yogurt bowls, and avocados (which looked to be half an avocado filled with your choice of ingredients). They have juices, tea, and coffee to drink (also had one mimosa option and some sparkling roses I think). The coffees were just okay. The pancakes were good. It's three or four in a stack. Plenty of toppings. And they bring a bottle of maple syrup (their brand so not sure if it's real maple syrup or not). Good place if you are craving American style pancakes.

    Blueberry Magic Deluxe

For Americans expecting a fancy version of what they get back home, they may be sorely disappointed. By default these are wheat pancakes which are not nearly as light, fluffy, or moist as an American pancake. Personally a flavored version like ginger or pumpkin spice would have been more to my taste. My strawberries were not at all sweet which is an issue at home too. Blueberries on the other hand were just great. I had the Blueberry Magic Deluxe with bananas, strawberries and coconut sprinkles in addition to blueberries and maple syrup.

Breakfast with AIR CONDITIONING!!!! We visited Amsterdam during a heat wave and we Americans needed AC! Mook has amazing pancakes and coffee! The service was quick and the food was delicious! Highly recommend!

    Man cakes!!! Savory

MOAK was my go to choice for pancakes while visiting Amsterdam. The price was a little on the higher end, but that is more of an Amsterdam characteristic I think than this place in particular. Wanting something hearty I got the manly man pancakes, which had bacon and cheese on them, absolutely delectable! I loved the service, the feel and vibe of the restaurant and they had free water (thank Jesus). I would recommend anyone MOAK pancakes if they're looking for a spin on the traditional American breakfast. 5/5 experience all the way around.

The food is what I guess is considered to be American breakfast. It is actually not American and a bit strange. For example, pancakes covered with bacon, cheese and onions... My son absolutely loved it and we visited a few times while in Amsterdam. Pancakes are pretty good and the fresh juices are excellent. The service is very good. Unfortunately, the decor and ambience are a little strange in all MOAK locations in general as I am ok with likes of Michael Jordan painted on the walls but other personalities that they choose to put like, Oprah Winfrey and gangster rappers would not be my first choice to be staring at me while I am eating breakfast. There are excellent breakfast places all over Amsterdam and for local flare there are definitely better choices, but for a tasty and fun meal, MOAK is definitely worth checking out.

We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. I was also able to connect to the WiFi from the Casino across the river. It was weak, but still worked. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. Once it finally came out, I thought the crepe was good, but not out of your mind fantastic. It's just basic tbh. Will I ever come back, probably not due to the wait time and the food wasn't all that great.
