    Ham and cheese pancake
    Florence K.

Trying the savory Dutch pancake for the first time since I had a sweet pancake last time. I came right when they opened since I had to eat a pretty early breakfast before I head out to the airport. It was pretty quiet but think it would get busy for lunch. I got the ham and cheese pancake, which is considered a traditional pancake. Definitely very thin and crispy. It's good to try but Dutch pancakes are not really my thing after trying this twice.

You order the pancakes and cooked to order food at the cashier, everything else is a self service cafeteria. Pancakes are large and tasty, you can't go wrong with the classic cheese or apple ones. As a treat, I was promised pancakes after the run.. also since it's so deep in the park it really is the only way to get there. Really lovely family place and the perfect place for a Sunday lunch. The place is big a bit big so the first thing you need to do is go inside into the cafeteria looking area. This is where you can pick up a tray, drink and other things like apple tart and other goodies for your meal. You order your pancakes at the counter when you pay and they will give you a number. Grab a seat either inside or out and wait for your number to come up. Head back to the counter to pick up your plateful of goodness. We ordered the pancakes with bacon. Top it off with a bit of syrup and it's just perfect. The pancakes were thin and fluffy while it was a bit crispy on the outside as well. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other ones!

I tried some ham and cheese baguette and I think there's cheese was much thicker than the ham but I would definitely like more ham. In general this place has the carousel as the main attraction - it sort of reminds me of a cheaper version of Disney. Looks kind of touristy and old school. There's lots of seating and I think the host wasn't really there to seat us but there was a wait to be seated sign. We took a booth by the window. The service was extremely slow and the workers are definitely understaffed here and I don't understand why because there's outside and inside seating and there were only two workers for over 30/40 tables. The Dutch pancakes were the best thing on the menu but I think they just taste like hot cakes with sugar on top- so I didn't find anything super special to ever come back here again.

You see we had the good fortune of befriending Senna who volunteered to serve (in his words) as our "tour guide & waiter." When Senna asked if Dana preferred sweet or savory, she replied (in brilliant fashion), "How about both?" This prompted his face to light up as he told us he had the perfect recommendations. Following his lead we ordered the "Bacon, Apple, and Butter" Pannenkoeken and the "Mixed Fruit and Whipped Cream" Poffertjes. What's amazing to me is that about half way through our meal I noticed that the bottle of syrup on the table hadn't been touched (or even considered). I mean, how could syrup possibly enhance such a wonderful compliment of flavors? No, its inclusion simply wouldn't be tolerated! If you want to blaze your own trail at "De Carrousel" they offer more than 50 options to choose from and I'd recommend sharing a combination of pannenkoeken and poffertjes amongst your party. Be sure to make time to wander around the restaurant a bit. Not only are the center carrousel horses a unique touch, but the kitchen's close proximity to the dining area can make you feel as if you have a role in the preparation of the pannenkoeken and poffertjes! True to his word, Senna provided us with a handwritten, two-sided, list of recommendations that he divided into the categories of "Culture", "Restaurants", and "Date Night." And that's...Henry's Take. #pannenkoeken #poffertjes #dutchhospitality

Coffee & Coconuts, seriously another amazing cafe that I visited during my trip in Amsterdam!…read more This cafe is hidden on the outside, but once you step inside, it is massively huge with three stories of dining tables. After waiting to be seated, our hostess guided us upstairs to the third floor, where they have several more dining tables and cozy couches that you can sit on while you enjoy your coffee. My parents, having visited this cafe before during their last trip to Amsterdam, raved about this place and suggested that I try their famous coconut coffee. All three of us ordered their coconut coffee, with my dad adding an espresso shot to his own so that he could stay awake for the rest of the night. Once I reached that first sip, OMG. SO DELICIOUS. How can I make my own coconut coffee back at home?! I loved it so much that I really want to make a copycat of it. The straws are also bendable, which really makes it handy if you need to lower your straw a bit. If I could, I would get on a plane to Amsterdam just to come back for their coconut coffee. That's how delicious it is! Local or tourist, I strongly suggest Coffee & Coconuts. You will not regret coming here at all!
