The service was a little slow at brunch even though it wasnt busy when we walked in but very friendly and attentive staff. When we left there was a huge line outside, waiting to get in. The food was very tasty and a lot based on what you ordered. I got the "luxury breakfast" which consisted of very delicious scrambled eggs, toast, salad, croissant ,prosecco ,orange juice . My wife had savory pancake with bacon, and cheese and was amazing. The prices were reasonable but remember Amsterdam is an expensive city. We will definitely go back this week. read more

If you're visiting Amsterdam, you have to stop by The Pancake Bakery. It was recommended to us by so many people, and it definitely lived up to the reputation! It's the perfect spot for breakfast or brunch with a cozy, welcoming vibe. The menu is huge, featuring an incredible variety of both sweet and savory pancakes. We tried the Poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes), and they were amazing--super soft, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness. We also ventured into the savory section with the Thai pancake, which was surprisingly delicious and a nice change of pace. Be prepared to leave full! The portions are very generous, and we were completely stuffed by the end of the meal. What really topped off the experience was the service; the staff was outstandingly friendly and made us feel right at home. I highly recommend adding this to your Amsterdam food list! read more

The place to go for Poffertjes!! Poffertjes are traditional Dutch pancakes that are small in size (mini, bite-size) and cooked in a special pan. You can get them savory, sweet, or classic (butter and powdered sugar). I've had them a variety of ways at this restaurant. My favorite is with vanilla ice cream, cherries, cherry sauce, and whipped cream. They also make a really decent French-style crepe. Yes all day long to The Pancake Bakery! There's a reason they've been around since the 70s. read more

No way. I'm sure this place used to be amazing at some point, but it definitely is not anymore. I strolled in on a Thursday at lunch and was seated immediately. The restaurant was probably 1/3 full. I couldn't get anyone to give me a menu for a solid 10 minutes. The good news is, I asked what their best item was, they took my order, and they brought it out quite quickly. That's where it went downhill again. Their indo pancake was SO SALTY. I love saltiness but this was extreme. I asked if they could make me another with less sauce. The thing was drenched in a premade, overly salty, sticky peanut sauce. The waiter returned and said, "no it's part of the sauce." "Right, but you could make it with much less sauce." "No." "Okayyy so I guess I'll keep eating around it?" "Yes." Welp, I ate the side veggies, waited another 15 minutes to get my check, watching waiters come and go, and vowed to never be back. What a waste of $24! read more

The Pancake Bakery stands out among Amsterdam's dining scene for its dedication to the traditional Dutch pancake--a dish quite different from American-style pancakes. Dutch pancakes are larger, thinner, and more similar to crepes, yet with a unique texture that's heartier and more substantial. The restaurant serves both sweet and savory varieties, making pancakes appropriate for any meal of the day. It was a perfect stop after our visit to the Anne Frank house, and just a stroll down the street. https://lisaefreedman.com/the-pancake-bakery-a-complete-guide-to-this-historic-dutch-pancake-house/ read more

First off, very good customer service, data and friendly! We also loved that they had crayons and coloring pages at the ready to keep our toddler busy. I wish we had come later in the day to try some more savory pancakes but we were there for breakfast and ate accordingly. The food was good! Pancakes were on the sweeter side, not something I'd typically eat for breakfast but when in Amsterdam? Yes please! read more

I'm so glad we stopped here before visiting the Anne Frank Huis. Food was excellent - we got the scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon, mushroom cheese omelet, banana Nutella crepe & Dutch crepe (pancake). The service was phenomenal. We were seated almost immediately, and multiple people came to check on us throughout the meal. The food came out quickly and was exactly as we ordered. It's got like a cool, old pizza parlor vibe. The tables are spacious and there are many. The lighting is soft and warm. The restrooms were clean. I'd definitely come back! read more

Restaurant with variety of pancakes and Dutch pancakes. Came here on a weekday for an early dinner and shared a Caprese pancake and poffertjes. The pancake was quite large and a good size to split between three people. Indoor and outdoor seating. Credit cards accepted. There are vegetarian options. Shoutout to our waiter Rein was so funny and personable. We had a chill time eating here and would recommend this spot if you're looking for a place that has pancakes to share. read more

If you are looking to try some traditional Dutch pancakes in Amsterdam, this is the place to go! I got a pancake with apple, cinnamon ice cream, cinnamon liquor, and whipped cream (€17) - I mean, how could that combo not be delicious! The most unique part of the pancake is that it was huge and flatter than "normal" pancakes and the topping were pretty special as well. I especially liked how the apples were infused within the pancake and the cinnamon flavor along with the coldness of the ice cream perfectly complemented the warm pancake. Plus, the portion size made it worth the price. As a bonus, the fresh orange juice (€6) was very good too. The restaurant is conveniently located right next to the Jordaan area, right next to a canal. It has both the nice canal-side vibe as well as a more homey interior which is decorated with historic Dutch decor and photographs. The staff are very friendly and the service speed is quick. Overall, with a wide selection of tasty Dutch pancakes and a nice environment, The Pancake Bakery earns 5 stars from me! read more

I came here due to the great reviews and wanting to try Dutch pancakes while in Amsterdam. However, the experience and food felt mediocre. We ordered the Dutch pancakes and Caprese pancake which had pesto sauce, tomato, and basil. I chose the Caprese pancake because I love the ingredients, but it was extremely salty and I could barely finish half of it. The Dutch pancake tasted better, but it was nothing special other than the mini stroopwaffles on it. The restaurant was not full, but the staff was rushing us to order and asking multiple times whether we needed anything else when we just wanted to sit a bit longer. I felt like this was unusual for Europe, after our trip in Paris. As a result, we didn't end up staying for long. To top it off, the waiter informed us of the 3 tip options on the card machine. After, they asked us "which option we would like to pick" so they could press it on the machine for us. I understand treating the staff for service, but didn't appreciate how they basically forced the tips on us. I would like the option to choose for myself based on our experience. Service was quite abrupt, and they didn't go above and beyond other than coming to take our order. Overall, it was quite a miss and I don't understand the hype if you've had similar crepes or pancakes elsewhere. read more

Many people recommended this location and so my family and I visited it on our recent trip to Amsterdam after going to Anne Frank's house. We thought it was just OK. My son had a kid pancake and it was very thin and not very flavorful. He didn't eat even half of it. My husband had the giant omelette, but it was actually really thin as well and so it wasn't as giant as it looks, and the egg was a little overdone because it was so thin. I had the smaller puffy style Dutch pancakes. We all agreed that was probably the best thing there. We also found the prices to be a little high for what it was. Overall, one of our least favorite meals in the city. read more

This was a must-go on my Amsterdam food list and was so glad we were able to make it. Their pancakes were phenomenal and I can't recommend this place enough if you're in Amsterdam! Between my husband and myself, we tried a sweet and a savory pancake. For the sweet pancake, we had the peach with cherry liquor, ice cream, and whipped cream. The light cinnamon sprinkled across the whole thing tied everything together. The pancake wasn't overpoweringly sweet, but the vanilla ice cream was a great touch to complete this dish. For our savory pancake, we went with the chicken with cheese and mushroom. Oh my, this was my FAVORITE. At first sight, it looked a bit plain since it was pretty flat compared with our sweet pancake but looks can be deceiving. This pancake was perfect with the slightly crispy edges, cheesy center, and chicken laced throughout. I couldn't get enough of this dish! read more

All of my friends back home said the one food I need to try in Amsterdam was poffertjes. This was my first time trying them and they did not let me down! Sure they are basically mini pancakes, but the way each one is the perfect bite with the perfect amount of toppings and flavors mixed together makes it so good. And idk what's in the Dutch syrup, but that stuff is addicting! To top it all off, this place is right along the water so you can enjoy the boats passing by and everything. Life doesn't get much better than that! read more

When in Amsterdam, one must have some Dutch pancakes. If you're new to Dutch pancakes, they're a hybrid of an American thick, fluffy pancake and a thin, crispy French crepe. They come with a wide range of fillings from sweet to savory. We decided to try one of each and ordered the Dutch Pancake (€18.25) and Pancake with Bacon, Cheese, and Mushrooms (€15.95). These pancakes are huge and is probably more than enough per person. We enjoyed the savory one a lot, which had lots of fillings. I'm usually more of a savory than sweet person though. Because the Dutch pancake had ice cream, it started melting quite quickly. We couldn't finish the sweet one, but still solid. There seems to often be a line here, but it goes by fairly quick. They are seating people quicker than people are leaving, so be a little patient. read more

The food was fairly average, and while that in itself wouldn't normally be a major issue, the way we were treated made the entire experience quite upsetting. I'm sharing this because it genuinely left me feeling hurt. After we had finished our meal and paid, I took two pink straws from the basket for my child to play with--something small and harmless. The server approached me and questioned me in a tone that immediately felt cold and unkind. I explained politely, but her response only became more dismissive. Not wanting to escalate the situation, I quietly put the straws back. Even then, she continued, saying it was "bad behavior" because others would be using them. Being spoken to like that, over something so trivial, felt unnecessary and embarrassing. What stayed with me most was not the straws, but how I was made to feel in that moment--judged, uncomfortable, and unwelcome. It's hard to ignore the feeling that I was treated differently, and that made the experience even more painful. I left feeling disheartened rather than valued as a customer. Sadly, because of this, I wouldn't feel comfortable returning. read more

When in Amsterdam, get Dutch pancakes! The large size may overwhelm you at first, but they are a lot thinner than American pancakes (and in my opinion- more delicious too!) To me, they actually felt similar to Korean pancakes, especially because I went with a savory option. I opted for the Canadian pancake that had crispy bacon, ham, onions, mushroom and cheese in it and came with a side of bbq sauce. It was phenomenal! My husband got a banana nutella pancake, but the savory option was the clear winner. I loved that the bacon was crispy and there were whole large pieces of the bacon and ham inside. These pancakes are absolutely delectable and something I'll miss about Amsterdam! The location is large, but the tables fill up quickly. We arrived at 9am to a fairly empty restaurant, but by the time we left at 10am, the whole place was packed. It is conveniently located near the Anne Frank House along the canal. read more

I wanted to make sure I tried some poffertjes while in Amsterdam so I ended up eating here as well as De Carrousel Pannenkoeken and I can say with certainty that The Pancake Bakery was the better of the two and is a must stop for anyone in the area (especially since it's so close to the Anne Frank House). I got the poffertjes with chocolate sauce as well as a ham and cheese omelette. While the serving size/amount of mini pancakes you get is less here compared to De Carrousel, these ones just taste so much better. They were softer inside and basically melted in your mouth while De Carrousel version was denser and was more akin to pancakes you'd make at home with over mixed batter. These also had a perfectly thin crispness to the outer shell whereas the mini pancakes at De Carrousel where just soft and less satisfying to eat. The omelette was huge by the way. Delicious but huge so my mom and I easily shared it. I enjoyed the side salad that went along with it too. If you're looking for a place to try poffertjes/Dutch mini pancakes for the first time, I highly recommend The Pancake Bakery! Plus the location is great considering most tourists will be at the Anne Frank House at some point. De Carrousel Pannenkoeken is still ok if you're in that area and while you do get more mini pancakes on your plate, the ones made here definitively taste better and are of a higher quality in my opinion. read more

We had the most wonderful experience today at The Pancake Bakery. We started with an excellent cappuccino. Then I had a chicken, cheese, and onion pancake, and my husband had a tomato, cheese, and onion pancake. These are huge, and absolutely delicious! We couldn't finish them, and asked to take our leftovers with us. Our terrific server wrapped up our leftovers for us. The sweetest moment came when she brought our check with a candy. I recognized this candy as one my grandmother always had in her home, and I told the server. When she returned, she gave a a handful of the candies. It was such a lovely gesture. I cannot say enough wonderful things about The Pancake Bakery- my only regret was that we didn't have enough room for a sweet pancake- they looked amazing! read more

This was the cutest restaurant. I never had an omelet so big & served with salad. I had a Canadian Omelet and it was amazing! The omelet was so big, it took up more than half of the plate. Light and crispy pancakes, although if you're more used to American style fluffy pancakes these are more reminiscent of a crepe style meal. You can chose from a selection of toppings our party went with a sweet and savory option, the cinnamon apple, bacon mushroom cheese and chicken mushroom cheese. Of the three the apple cinnamon was the standout dish, the apples are still crispy and not the overly stewed. Served with ice cream and whip cream you would think the dish would be over sugary but it wasn't! The bacon was definitely the winner of the two savory dishes, the strips of bacons were cooked inside the pancake which made for a more wiggly texture to which I preferred! We found the chicken one to be a bit on the drier side also there wasn't much cheese pull action going on but the pancake was still delicious nonetheless. Make sure you order the small fluffy pancakes to share as they again weren't too sweet and the mini portions made for a fun dish to snack on! read more

I don't care if this is in Amsterdam. You MUST try this spot. In the mornings, the line does get a little long. However, we went in the evening and had pancakes for dinner. No complaints here! I ordered the omelette and my wife ordered the pancake with mandarins and honey. We both ATE it up. The inside is actually quite large and able to fit many guests. Walked over after visiting the Anne Frank Haus Museum. At 6p there was a short line which went fast. We ordered 2 savory pancakes and one sweet pancake to share. The Indonesian has a peanut sauce and is a little on the sweeter side. I actually liked the flavor. The Thai pancake was filled with chicken curry and was quite delicious and filling. Our Apple pancake was our dessert. The pancakes are thinner like crepes with a crispy edge, not like the American fluffy ones. All were delicious and the service was quick. Servers were friendly. The pancakes here are brilliant and it's very neat how the restaurant is tucked into the ground level. Overall the ambiance is quite nice, servers were great and our meal was tasty and plenty. My only issue with this place was that it felt quite touristy. When we travel we prefer to stay away from heavily trafficked touristy places. The food was authentic but the vibe of the place was not.
