Cute pancake shop off the canal, super quaint and warm inside which was a nice reprieve from the occasional gusts of wind from outside. You can eat indoors or outdoors, service is incredibly fast. I ordered a small strawberries and cream - was really craving some poffertjes and this hit the spot! For some odd reason I thought I was going to get strawberries and condensed milk but it was actually whipped creme, the menu is super minimal so it was a gamble. Super fluffy nonetheless and sadly didn't see the dollop of butter until halfway through! It made it ten times better as if it wasn't already powdered sugar goodness. 10/10 stop by if you can! I also got some fresh orange juice that was equally fantastic and fresh!

Dutch pancakes! That's the real reason to come here, and that's pretty much all this restaurant makes. You can get the larger pancakes that are about the entire size of your dinner plate, or the smaller pancakes called Poffertjes, which are the antithesis in size compared to the large pancakes. I opted for the Poffertjes, as I've had the larger pancakes on previous Amsterdam visits. The larger pancakes are similar to a thicker crepe. They're okay, but they're huge! I enjoyed the tiny Poffertjes more which have more of a light texture to them. I opted simply for the addition of butter and powdered sugar. I actually could've done without the butter, as I found it made the half dollar size pancakes a bit soggy, since they were so small. The powdered sugar, though, are a necessity, as they're a bit bland served "naked". You can also opt for a variety of other toppings, like strawberries, bananas, nutella, whipped cream and other traditional pancake toppings. Even with the powdered sugar, they're far from the best thing I've ever eaten, but they are representative of Amsterdam and I enjoyed them for what they were. The interior of the restaurant is blah, and not at all atmospheric, but there's some seating outdoors, which is pleasant on a nice day. This place definitely caters to tourists, but after all, you'll be a tourist, right?!? Interestingly, the restaurant is located directly across from Sushi Samba. Who would've even guessed there was a snazzy Las Vegas Strip/NYC Sushi Samba in Amsterdam?!? You can reach this destination easily in the Leidensplein area of Amsterdam by taking the tram, or the Hop on Hop off Buss, which stops directly in front of the restaurant (stop #10, if I recall correctly). If you're short on time, get the Proffertjes to go, as I did, but be sure to devour them immediately, since they'll get soggy pretty darn soon. On the other hand, if you find yourself with some extra time, wander across the street to a beautifully manicured city park, and enjoy your pancakes there. There are many places, like Pancakes Amsterdam near the Anne Frank house serving the large pancakes, but I haven't seen many places with the Proffertjes. For that reason, I'd be back for those little Proffertjes, if I was nearby.
The restaurant is a little shack house on a big road next to the river, just FYI in case you have trouble looking for it. We went there for brunch since there weren't many options early in the morning, they open daily at 9am, they have pancakes, they serve coffee, everything I needed to jump start my morning. In terms of food, we had the strawberry whipped cream pancakes, and a savory one filled with ham and cheese. Both were excellent depending if you are in the food for sweet or savory.
Absolutely delightful mini pancakes. And the machine they use to make them is very cool. I had my order with fresh strawberries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. Wonderful! We also had a larger pancake with vegetables, cheese, and sausage. Absolutely delicious. A "don't miss" place when you visit Amsterdam.
We stopped by this location because our hotel was about 5 minutes away and I was desperate to try some pancakes! They advertised as having poffertjes as well which looked amazing. The service is quick and easy, we really liked our waiter who took care of us. We got the bacon pancake and a large order of the poffertjes with strawberries/whipped cream to share. The pancake is much thinner than the US version (more like a crepe). The poffertjes are like super fluffy little pancakes and were amazing! We loved loved loved them, especially with the strawberries and whipped cream. The pancake was also tasty with their homemade syrup. Originally we thought we might need 3 dishes to share but it ended up being more than enough. We loved both dishes and they came out super quick. We would highly recommend De Vier as a quick and tasty lunch spot!
Pancakes and poffertjes are the specialty here. In fact there's nothing else on the menu (besides drinks), but they have a wide assortment of both sweet and savory toppings for both. I only had one day in Amsterdam so I had to try both a pancake and poffertjes, against my kind waitress's suggestion that it would be too much food for one person. On a normal day she'd be absolutely right, but I was on vacay. #YOLO Dutch pancakes might be my favorite type of pancake. They're the size and shape of a classic crepe, except a smidge thicker. I ordered mine with cheese so it kind of looked like a pizza. It looks big, but the size is deceiving considering how thin it is. Very tasty. Poffertjes, however, are on another level. Everyone has already said it here, but they are truly magical. They're little spongy puffs of pancake dusted in powdered sugar and served with a piece of honey butter. I destroyed a plate of 10 (the small portion) pretty easily, so if you're sharing get the 20 piece. What I loved about eating these is that I didn't keep count of how many I'd eaten, and because there was so much powdered sugar on top I had no idea how many I had left and kept uncovering more. The dish that kept on giving! It was the perfect fill before strutting off to the Rijksmuseum, only a ~5 min walk from the restaurant.
I enjoyed our breakfast here! Also a highly recommended breakfast place. Of course we had to order the poffertjes and so happy we did! They were so delicious. It almost melts in your mouth good. We ordered the pancakes (pineapple, plain and raisins) and one savory (mushroom/burger). All of us loved our food. Service was excellent and friendly staff. This place gets packed!

So glad this popped up on my yelp! This place was a 5 minute walk from my hotel. I ordered the small poffertjes to try, as I've never had them nor was I certain I will like them. Easily my favorite breakfast spot in Amsterdam. Even if I'm just passing through the airport, I try to sneak out and grab a plate of Poffertjes before the long flight across the Atlantic. Super friendly, great location, must try. read more

We stopped by for a quick breakfast before the canal tour. It was so cute with the art on the ceilings and the old school building. We enjoyed a savory and a sweet pancake. They were fresh and delicious. The lemon curd was absolutely amazing and there was a ton of mushrooms on my savory crepe. Service was quick, but not very friendly. The place was very busy. read more

My husband and I are first time visitors to Amsterdam and I the first thing I wanted...well needed... to do was eat a Dutch pancake! With a little research from our friends at yelp I decided to give de vier pilaren a try. The pancake house is located between the casino and the Marriott on a middle street. The staff was super friendly and welcoming and spoke perfect English. The menu (also in English) consists mostly of pancakes and poffertjes with both savory and sweet options. We ordered the Dutch apple pancake which is more like a crepe vs the American pancake we know and love. The pancake was sweet and did not require syrup. I did want to try the syrup and found it to be darker, thicker and less sweet than what we are accustomed to. I wasn't in love with the syrup and just skipped it since it wasn't needed. The poffertjes were amazing!!!! We made the mistake of ordering a small order (10) and should have gotten the larger order since they were so tasty. Poffertjes are light airy doughy round pancakes that are sweeter in flavor. We ordered the plain ones which come with powdered sugar and butter. Soooo delicious! The butter was fresh, rich and creamy and went perfectly with the sweetness of the poffertjes. I will def be back before the end of my trip! read more
We were really craving Dutch baby pancakes while in Amsterdam and based off a Pinterest food post we went here and we were impressed with the food. Drinks: I got an orange juice after the waitress recommended it as fresh and it was definitely watered down and I would guess it wasn't actually fresh and for almost €5 that's a disappointment. We also got a double coffee which was good. Food: we both ordered Dutch baby pancakes and they were more like crepes than butch baby pancakes in my opinion but tasted great. The whipped cream and strawberries were delicious but I didn't like the vanilla ice cream much at all. The food wasn't very filling but didn't want to pay more than we already had on food that wasn't that great. Environment: a little spot right by the water, we sat right on the canal outside and it was a great day, probably the best part of this was the location Service: they were all very nice but very overwhelming, in a matter of 5 minutes we had three different servers ask us if we were ready to order even though we said we were going to need a while since my boyfriend was trying to finish up a call. Well I couldn't leave this place without trying another pancake! Also my coworker was obsessed so we had to come back. WOW I can not do escape how cool this place was from the ambiance, to this view to the friendly staff. The coffee and breakfast is so on point every time. Don't cheat yourself by not coming her. I became a poffertjes fan after a lunch at De Vier Pilaren. Eating a plate of fluffy little pancakes coated in melting butter, powdered sugar and strawberries with a hot cup of mint tea was the best meal before a stroll through nearby vondelpark. The poffertjes came out warm, melting the butter. It's filling and delicious. Worth a stop. read more
Very nice location. On the water, many options for sweet or savory food. Poffertjes are pumped out very quickly, and are so good. The strawberry and whip cream makes a great combination in your mouth. Also the pancake with ham and cheese is very nice and not over powering. Great breakfast spot. read more
Decided to try this place on our last day in Amsterdam. My husbands colleague recommended the Dutch pancakes. We were seated right away. We ordered the Dutch pancakes and the round little balls. The pancakes were a little thicker than crepes. Tastes like crepes. The little balls we warm balls of dough. Friendly service. read more

My 1st time trying Poffertjes and it certainly won't be my last. I ordered the normal portion (20 minis) butter & powdered sugar with strawberry and whipped cream. I had to take the butter off as it makes the mini poffertjes too soggy. They are delicious and just the right amount if you're hungry. You can order a half portion if you want to taste test. The strawberries kind of take the taste out of the poffertjes so I ate them separately. Definitely enjoyed the local treat and will try it again! I would recommend anyone visiting to give it a shot. read more

Wow, this is my first time ever having poffertjes and I don't think that there is any other place that can top it. For those who don't know what a poffertje is, it is a mini pancake that has a spongy and light texture that is served with powdered sugar and butter. Today, I ordered the normal portion(20 pieces) with strawberries and whipped cream. These were so delicious with each bite. Literally heaven in your mouth. Spongy, light texture while having the right amount of sweet from the powdered sugar and cream. Highly recommended in Amsterdam for those who want something unique! A must try!! read more

De Vier Pilaren is a gorgeous, charming little waffle spot near the Vondelpark. And the cheese waffle I had was actually quite delicious! Why just the two stars? WORST SERVICE EVER. Our group of five waited for one of our waffles for fifteen minutes while our waiter ate a sandwich (in our view) and never explained what the hold up was. Too bad, because the place itself was quite charming! read more
It was our last day in Amsterdam and a coworker had recommended we come here. We had to make sure we knocked out some pofferjes. Since it's our last meal before getting on a plane, we both ordered an entree pancake and of course a plate of pofferjes. I really liked the vegetable and sausage pancake. It's plenty of food for lunch. Pofferjes here were awesome. Though I will throw a disclaimer that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try pofferjes anywhere else. So this isn't a good comparison. I loved them for the simplicity and topped with powdered sugar and strawberries. We shared a plate of 10, but I could have easily had more. Each is only slightly more than a bite. I'm pretty sure we devoured our plate in under 2 minutes. This location is very cute. It's kind of set apart by itself. When we came the weather wasn't that great, but I think it would be a great spot during the warmer days. read more

We decided to skip dinner and get poffertjes instead. What a wonderful idea! If you don't know what poffertjes are, they are little warm pillows of goodness that can be smothered with a variety of toppings such as fruits, chocolate, and powdered sugar. My friend and I shared a plate of 10 poffertjes topped with powdered sugar, strawberries, and Nutella. We got whipped cream and ice cream on the side. The poffertjes with all the toppings and ice cream together tasted heavenly. We considered ordering another plate but decided that we should eat something more substantial instead... I'm seriously regretting not getting that second plate of poffertjes!! This place is right next to a canal, so I suggest sitting outside when the weather is ideal! read more
