This place has changed its name to The Pancake Club, but looks to be serving the same thing. Located right next to river and has seating outside under mostly shaded trees. We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. I was also able to connect to the WiFi from the Casino across the river. It was weak, but still worked. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. Delicious pancakes and and amazing view! The pancakes are pretty expensive for Amsterdam, but the spot long the canal makes for a memorable view. Cute pancake shop off the canal, super quaint and warm inside which was a nice reprieve from the occasional gusts of wind from outside. You can eat indoors or outdoors, service is incredibly fast. I ordered a small strawberries and cream - was really craving some poffertjes and this hit the spot! For some odd reason I thought I was going to get strawberries and condensed milk but it was actually whipped creme, the menu is super minimal so it was a gamble. So glad this popped up on my yelp! This place was a 5 minute walk from my hotel. I ordered the small poffertjes to try, as I've never had them nor was I certain I will like them. But man, I should have ordered a bigger portion. These are amazing!! They are literally bite-size fluffy pancakes coated with powdered sugar and butter! I came back the morning of my departure just to have another plate. Dutch pancakes! That's the real reason to come here, and that's pretty much all this restaurant makes. You can get the larger pancakes that are about the entire size of your dinner plate, or the smaller pancakes called Poffertjes, which are the antithesis in size compared to the large pancakes. I opted for the Poffertjes, as I've had the larger pancakes on previous Amsterdam visits. The larger pancakes are similar to a thicker crepe. They're okay, but they're huge! I enjoyed the tiny Poffertjes more which have more of a light texture to them. I opted simply for the addition of butter and powdered sugar. I actually could've done without the butter, as I found it made the half dollar size pancakes a bit soggy, since they were so small. The powdered sugar, though, are a necessity, as they're a bit bland served "naked". You can also opt for a variety of other toppings, like strawberries, bananas, nutella, whipped cream and other traditional pancake toppings. Even with the powdered sugar, they're far from the best thing I've ever eaten, but they are representative of Amsterdam and I enjoyed them for what they were. The interior of the restaurant is blah, and not at all atmospheric, but there's some seating outdoors, which is pleasant on a nice day. This place definitely caters to tourists, but after all, you'll be a tourist, right?!? Interestingly, the restaurant is located directly across from Sushi Samba. Who would've even guessed there was a snazzy Las Vegas Strip/NYC Sushi Samba in Amsterdam?!? You can reach this destination easily in the Leidensplein area of Amsterdam by taking the tram, or the Hop on Hop off Buss, which stops directly in front of the restaurant (stop #10, if I recall correctly). If you're short on time, get the Proffertjes to go, as I did, but be sure to devour them immediately, since they'll get soggy pretty darn soon. On the other hand, if you find yourself with some extra time, wander across the street to a beautifully manicured city park, and enjoy your pancakes there. There are many places, like Pancakes Amsterdam near the Anne Frank house serving the large pancakes, but I haven't seen many places with the Proffertjes. For that reason, I'd be back for those little Proffertjes, if I was nearby. read more

We stopped by this location because our hotel was about 5 minutes away and I was desperate to try some pancakes! They advertised as having poffertjes as well which looked amazing. The service is quick and easy, we really liked our waiter who took care of us. We got the bacon pancake and a large order of the poffertjes with strawberries/whipped cream to share. The pancake is much thinner than the US version (more like a crepe). The poffertjes are like super fluffy little pancakes and were amazing! Everyone has already said it here, but they are truly magical. They're little spongy puffs of pancake dusted in powdered sugar and served with a piece of honey butter. I destroyed a plate of 10 (the small portion) pretty easily, so if you're sharing get the 20 piece. What I loved about eating these is that I didn't keep count of how many I'd eaten, and because there was so much powdered sugar on top I had no idea how many I had left and kept uncovering more. My husband and I are first time visitors to Amsterdam and I the first thing I wanted...well needed... to do was eat a Dutch pancake! With a little research from our friends at yelp I decided to give de vier pilaren a try. The pancake house is located between the casino and the Marriott on a middle street. The staff was super friendly and welcoming and spoke perfect English. The menu (also in English) consists mostly of pancakes and poffertjes with both savory and sweet options. We ordered the Dutch apple pancake which is more like a crepe vs the American pancake we know and love. The pancake was sweet and did not require syrup. I did want to try the syrup and found it to be darker, thicker and less sweet than what we are accustomed to. I wasn't in love with the syrup and just skipped it since it wasn't needed. The poffertjes were amazing!!!! We made the mistake of ordering a small order (10) and should have gotten the larger order since they were so tasty. Poffertjes are light airy doughy round pancakes that are sweeter in flavor. We ordered the plain ones which come with powdered sugar and butter. Soooo delicious! We were really craving Dutch baby pancakes while in Amsterdam and based off a Pinterest food post we went here and we were impressed with the food. Drinks: I got an orange juice after the waitress recommended it as fresh and it was definitely watered down and I would guess it wasn't actually fresh and for almost €5 that's a disappointment. We also got a double coffee which was good. Food: we both ordered Dutch baby pancakes and they were more like crepes than butch baby pancakes in my opinion but tasted great. The whipped cream and strawberries were delicious but I didn't like the vanilla ice cream much at all. The food wasn't very filling but didn't want to pay more than we already had on food that wasn't that great. I am use to having pannenkoek in Calgary but I haven't had a poffertjes for ages. The pannenkoek I ordered at De Vier Pilaren was just okay, it was kind of over-done and had skimpy toppings, I like the ones that I get at home better but the poffertjes were the stand-out - fluffy and sweet pillows of deliciousness! My 1st time trying Poffertjes and it certainly won't be my last. I ordered the normal portion (20 minis) butter & powdered sugar with strawberry and whipped cream. I had to take the butter off as it makes the mini poffertjes too soggy. They are delicious and just the right amount if you're hungry. You can order a half portion if you want to taste test. Since it's our last meal before getting on a plane, we both ordered an entree pancake and of course a plate of pofferjes. I really liked the vegetable and sausage pancake. It's plenty of food for lunch. Pofferjes here were awesome. Though I will throw a disclaimer that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try pofferjes anywhere else. So this isn't a good comparison. I loved them for the simplicity and topped with powdered sugar and strawberries. We shared a plate of 10, but I could have easily had more. Each is only slightly more than a bite. I'm pretty sure we devoured our plate in under 2 minutes. This location is very cute. It's kind of set apart by itself.
