Stop here for great food or a beer next to the canal, beautiful view promised. This is extremely close to the Anne Frank Huis so it might be a good choice to stop here if you arrive for your tour early. The gentleman serving were so wonderful, friendly, prompt, and funny. It looks like you can get Indian food here later in the evening and I will come back to try it. Lots of drink and food options!

Fast, friendly service and generous portions of good food prepared perfectly. Very pleased we gave this a try as we wandered Amsterdam. If we ever find ourselves back in the neighborhood I'd glady return to Roem. Enjoy!

Very reasonable priced food and they have many dutch pancake options that were awesome. Also one of the best cheap meals you will find on the canal. The bathroom was small and not well kept but we loved the rest of the place and everything we ate.

We had come to Roem after a long morning of exploring. We came here because we were hungry, and it was in proximity to the canal area. We had the salmon sandwich, Dutch pancakes, and sandwiches. The salmon sandwich was good, but had WAY too much mayo on it. I would recommend getting no mayo or asking for it on the sides. The Dutch pancakes, on the other hand were delicious. We had gotten the goat cheese and chicken + a honey, walnut and cheese pancake. While the pancake itself was the same on both, it pairs both sweet and savory well. Roem is a good option along the canal- there are fancier sit down restaurants available very close, but if you are a family or want something casual Roem is the place to go.

You have to go to his place for the views alone...the food is pretty good as well. I really loved this restaurant, & the staff was nice & helpful too. I had a Dutch croquette & a pastrami sandwich. It was different, but tasted amazing. I would definitely eat here again. I regret not trying the pancakes, everyone raved about them. Next time Holland...

We had a pancake and coffee breakfast here before visiting the Anne Frank Huis. I had a plain one while my partner had one full of fresh fruit. Now I am not talking tinned fruit but freshly cut banana, melon, strawberry, apple etc etc. Unfortunately, for me, we had to walk back there the next day as she wanted another one LOL. Friendly, chatty service in pleasant surroundings, Very clean. If you are on the way to the museum, pop in, you will NOT be dissappointed.

Turkey club

Best club I've ever had...probably will ever had! Ordered Turkey and salmon. Both delicious. Also had crepes and soup. The staff is insanely fast, helpful and nice. Store clean. Prices affordable. Large menu. Large portions. We came back multiple times! Can be busy but worth planning your day to come here!

I took a star off for each of the two friendly mice I saw... The owner didn't seem to mind. I ordered a savory pancake; my waiter recommended the cheese, bacon, mushroom, and tomato one. It was pretty good, even if I did have to eat with one eye on a mouse.

Strawberry, chocolate, & whipped cream pancakes

After long walks along the canals, I came to the welcoming and popular cafe, Roem. I was in between plans for the day, so I was eager to eat quickly and go about my way. Great spot for that. I had to try the Dutch pancakes, so I ordered the sweet and charming strawberries, chocolate, and whipped cream pancakes. WOW! This meal was fantastic. The pancake was light and thin, and did not overwhelm the toppings. The shaved chocolate melted nicely, and with the whipped cream and strawberries, did not even need any syrup whatsoever. I was very happy with my choice. Both Dutch and English menus here, and the staff was attentive, friendly, and very helpful! Highly recommend!

The Infamous Bacon Avocado Tomato Salad at ROEM | AMAZING FRESH FOOD

Upon our travels to Amsterdam on Museum business, we frequent a few places to eat. With "foodies" in our crew, we know a diamond in the rough when we see it and ROEM is it. Food aside, the kind man who runs this tiny restaurant on Prinsengraacht street near Anne Frank House literally lives to please his guests. Always a smile and an eagerness to do right by his patrons, he will customize any sandwich or meal as you wish and not rake you over the coals financially. And he will do it with a smile and never a need to write it down with his photographic memory. Everyone has their favorite entree at any given restaurant; most order the same thing every time. After all, you can only order ONE thing and then you aren't back for a while. With that said, rather than do a run down on all the entrees, we will recommend TWO, with really only ONE being "the one thing" you have to order if you venture here. First, go for lunch and second, order the triple decker Chicken Club Sandwich (we will post some images). Fresh toasted delicious white bread, just made pulled white meat chicken, thick buttery sliced avocado, tomato and incredible BACON cooked to perfection and with a flavor unavailable in the USA. Light mayo and onions compliment this beast which has a giant toothpick through it to keep it together. It doesn't matter WHO we bring to ROEM, they always sing a song over the Chicken Bacon Club through the airport corridors on the way to the plane back to America. We have even brought this sandwich on board, only to see flight attendants drool. Now, if you are anti-bread, then a close runner up is the Chicken Avocado Bacon Salad with fresh butter lettuce. Can't lose there, either. We are informed that ROEM is set to open a location in New York City. True story. Make sure and have a fresh brewed ILLY Cappucino. We are excited. ROEM is a combination of very fresh ingredients, huge portions and mom and pop friendliness. Recipe for success. Way to go. - Ground Zero Museum Staff, New York City

Large savory pancake: Mushroom, cheese, tomato and a tiny bit of bacon
Ann D.

This pancake place is near to Anne Frank house (across the canal) so it's quite handy to grab breakfast at if the queue to Anne Frank is too long. This place is in a great location and has some beautiful views (see photo I uploaded). We ate here at around 10am on a Saturday morning and they didn't seem very busy in terms of all seats being filled but the service was really rather slow. The food and coffee was relatively cheap for Amsterdam but unfortunately, this showed in the pancakes. The pancake portion was large but unfortunately the savoury pancake I had didn't cover the whole pancake and was the blandest pancake I've eaten in Amsterdam. The savoury pancake was bacon, mushroom, cheese and tomato but the only prominent flavour was the tomato unfortunately. There was hardly any bacon and the cheese was flavourless. Sorry guys but I will not eat your pancake again! I'm sure the sweet option was better though.

We stopped in to have a Heineken and some lunch after seeing the line to the Anne Frank house. The club sandwich and French onion soup ended up being very good! We sat outside and loved people watching!

I came out for the Dutch apple pie and the apples were drier than expected, although, it was delicious. Service was great!

We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. I was also able to connect to the WiFi from the Casino across the river. It was weak, but still worked. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. Once it finally came out, I thought the crepe was good, but not out of your mind fantastic. It's just basic tbh. Will I ever come back, probably not due to the wait time and the food wasn't all that great.

I tried some ham and cheese baguette and I think there's cheese was much thicker than the ham but I would definitely like more ham. In general this place has the carousel as the main attraction - it sort of reminds me of a cheaper version of Disney. Looks kind of touristy and old school. There's lots of seating and I think the host wasn't really there to seat us but there was a wait to be seated sign. We took a booth by the window. The service was extremely slow and the workers are definitely understaffed here and I don't understand why because there's outside and inside seating and there were only two workers for over 30/40 tables. The Dutch pancakes were the best thing on the menu but I think they just taste like hot cakes with sugar on top- so I didn't find anything super special to ever come back here again.

You see we had the good fortune of befriending Senna who volunteered to serve (in his words) as our "tour guide & waiter." When Senna asked if Dana preferred sweet or savory, she replied (in brilliant fashion), "How about both?" This prompted his face to light up as he told us he had the perfect recommendations. Following his lead we ordered the "Bacon, Apple, and Butter" Pannenkoeken and the "Mixed Fruit and Whipped Cream" Poffertjes. What's amazing to me is that about half way through our meal I noticed that the bottle of syrup on the table hadn't been touched (or even considered). I mean, how could syrup possibly enhance such a wonderful compliment of flavors? No, its inclusion simply wouldn't be tolerated! If you want to blaze your own trail at "De Carrousel" they offer more than 50 options to choose from and I'd recommend sharing a combination of pannenkoeken and poffertjes amongst your party. Be sure to make time to wander around the restaurant a bit. Not only are the center carrousel horses a unique touch, but the kitchen's close proximity to the dining area can make you feel as if you have a role in the preparation of the pannenkoeken and poffertjes! True to his word, Senna provided us with a handwritten, two-sided, list of recommendations that he divided into the categories of "Culture", "Restaurants", and "Date Night." And that's...Henry's Take. #pannenkoeken #poffertjes #dutchhospitality
