    Carrot cake and Americano

I asked chatGPT where the best sandwich in Amsterdam was and it gave me a list of 4 suggestions and this little spot was at the top! It's really nice with canal side seating and a wide selection of great sandwiches. I visited twice in three days and would recommend the BLTA or club sandwich and the carrot cake was an amazing surprise.

Salmon, avocado and mustard on a panini. DO NOT GET THE PANINI. Get brown bread instead

Nothing to complain about as far as service goes. Food is average. Got the salmon with avocado and mustard on a panini. Don't do it! This bread is SO hard to bite or cut into! And mind you, this was recommended to me by the server. Should've just gone with brown toast so that I could actually enjoy it without worrying about cracking my teeth (no joke). At least it's pretty in photographs. The toppings themselves are awesome but the bread killed it. Also got the chocomel which was good and comes with a cookie (:

Salmon with avocado, onion, tomato and mustard on farmer's bread. Delicious and massive!

Super cute little cafe serving up big portions. My smoked salmon open faced sandwich was really tasty. But when I say big, it was enormous. Like, the size of my face! My husband had a breakfast combo with croissant, egg, and toast. He seemed pleased with it. Service was friendly although not especially attentive. We didn't really need anything so it was fine. The weather was too cold to sit outside but this cafe sits right on the canal and the outdoor seating would be great for nicer days. On the plus side, the inside smelled like freshly baked pie. Mmm...pie.

Had the open face sandwich. It was ok. There were no seats outside near the canal. Most people here are tourists that we saw. The service is very "Dutch" (non-existent). They are nice enough but are in no hurry to take your order, get you a glass of water or bring anything to you.

This was a nice alternative to Gartine (couldn't get a table there as walk ins). It is a cozy little cafe serving fresh, delicious open faced sandwiches. I commented to my husband the tomatoes (sadly) taste so much better here than what we get back at home. If it's warm enough out you can sit right alongside the canal. Being that we are in December we didn't go that route but we did snag seats facing out the front window which was very nice watching Amsterdam go by. Friendly service and everything is priced just right. No overpriced menu items here! I miss Amsterdam already.

Single 404 makes a mean sandwich. All of the food looks super fresh and huge. This is probably the best casual lunch in Amsterdam. I ordered the lox bagel which was served open face and was massive. My wife got a double decker club and only at about half of it. We added the tomato soup which was definitely homemade and fresh tasting.

OMG SO GOOD! If I lived in Amsterdam I would come here everyday! The food and drinks were amazingly delicious and a good bang for your buck! I left full and completely satisfied. I went over the New Years Holiday so kind of expected it to be crowded, had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table upstairs. It was kind of awkward standing in the middle of the restaurant while there were people at tables on both sides, and as more and more people came in it got even more awkward. But, no one seemed to care. They have a little "bar" you can wait at too if you want. I ordered the chicken with brie open faced sandwich and a baileys hot chocolate. I debated over getting one of there smoothies since they were known for them but I was craving baileys. Wish I did, now that I think of it. I'm really big on presentation of food and I was delighted! The hot chocolate was so cute with a big mound of whip cream on top and a little choc chip cookie on the side. My sandwich was a good size too and super super yummy. Definitely go try this place if your in Amsterdam. It's in a really central part of town on Singel street, the metro drops you off real close and right across the street is the famous Lanskroon bakery which is known for there Stroopwaffles and then right across from that is the 420 cafe. So you can hit all 3 great places! The waitress and other staff were really nice as well. You pay your bill downstairs at the "bar."

10/10. Best recommendation. This place is superb. We came on the recommendation of other Yelpers and they were all right. It's adorable (everything in Amsterdam is), it's right on the canal (everything in Amsterdam is), and it was awesome (like Amsterdam)! Huge portions, great prices, awesome drinks, great service, adorable location. This place had it all and we really loved it. Really great spot for lunch. Indoor and outdoor seating are available, with a lot of outdoor seating across the bike path right on the canal. Remember to tip a bit! They tip in the Netherlands!

The Singel is my favorite food spot in Amsterdam! It's a small cozy breakfast/lunch spot on a canal around the corner from the negen straatjes, and up the street from the bloomenmarkt. Their open faced sandwiches are the best thing on the menu! The second half of the menu is in English, and my fav thing to order is the #46 which is a open faced sandwich with sliced smoked chicken (lunch meat style) bacon, cheese, and topped with a few herbs---hella good!! Also I love the yogurt shake with ice cream. The sandwich and shake together is a lot, so sometimes I order a mint tea instead of a shake. It's hot water with fresh mint leaves, not a tea bag, a nice treat. The club sandwiches are also delicious, as are the desserts. Portions are pretty big for lunch. Oh yea, they eat everything with a fork and knife, yes, even sandwiches. The ladies working there are really sweet. They have different daily specials, outdoor seating on the canal, and a few tables upstairs as well but it's not always open. It's a small spot so sometimes the wait is long (20 min) for a table. There is not a sign-up list so you have to stand in line and hang near the front. Noticeable changes within the last 5 years: The prices have gone up, expect to pay around 6-7€ for a sandwich (still worth it!) and they no longer allow smoking inside!! Thank God, it was horrible before. They do allow smoking in the outdoor seating area. Overall- casual lunch spot, possible wait, cozy interior, friendly staff, and delicious food!

This place was very good for a reasonable price. I ordered a BLAT and my companion order something with salmon on it. Both were very good and came on a sour dough bread. While the food was good, some of my avocado wasn't ripe quite yet. But still tasty and a lot cheaper than most places in Amsterdam. Finally, the fresh lemonade with mint was delicious!

    fresh mint tea!

I was quite pleasantly surprised by this little cafe! We were looking for a nice lunch spot on a cold, windy day, and I had found this place on tripadvisor. It's called Eetcafe on Google, but the store sign only says Singel 404. We actually stopped by Broodje first, which is only a block away across the canal. It was a pretty small location and had a pretty small menu. We decided to try Singel 404 instead, which was a great decision. The interior was very casual and cozy, and the wait staff were all very nice and patient with us as tourists. They have a menu in both Dutch and English too, which was very convenient. I imagine they are most known for their open faced sandwiches, which is what most customers were ordering. Also try the fresh mint tea (very common beverage in Amsterdam) and their smoothies. Although the sandwiches sound pretty ordinary on the menu, they look and taste even better than how they sound on the menu. And mind you, they already sound good on the menu, but they taste great!! The sandwiches were served with a heaping amount of colorful ingredients that was very fresh and refreshing. Highly recommended for lunch; you won't regret it.

Panini with cream cheese, lettuce, avocado, sundried tomatoes and pine nuts (yes, there's a panini under!)

Great Sunday brunch at Singel 404. We had a panini with cream cheese, lettuce, avocado, courgette, sundried tomatoes and pine nuts, and an oven-warmed bagel with pesto, ham, brie, grilled courgettes and sweet peppers: both were really good, with the right reasoning and fresh products. And the choice on the menu is just ridiculous: it took me 10 minutes before I was able to decide among all delicious temptations! Coffee and tea were alright. They have seating on the first floor, on a mezzanine upstairs, and a few tables outside along the canal, which should be really nice in a warm day. About the service, I found all waitresses nice, but it is true that the food took quite some time to arrive, and they made several mistakes in our drinks order (brought something that we did not ordered, and later forgot something that we did). Not the most pleasant of course but I didn't think it was really bad.

10/10. Great little spot right on the canal. The food was amazing and very vegetarian/vegan friendly!

The waiter was super cool and told us to have a seat anywhere we liked and brought us a drink menu. He knew we wanted to eat so at exactly 4:30 he came and took our orders. Through out the meal he was on top of everything and even offered many suggestions! The food was spectacular as well. I had the trio of fries and my friends had other small plates that were all so good! And the sauces that come with the fries, mamma mia! We also shared the Boca's Platter and it was absolutely to die for. Do not pass this up. I repeat, do not pass this up! Between 4 people, the medium was plenty of food. The space itself was also nice. They had outdoor seating for nicer days. We went right when food service began on a Monday afternoon so can't speak to how busy it gets during peak hours. Go for the great service, go for the Boca Platter, whatever you do, just go!

The bruschetta was delicious and if you love blue cheese, get it...it's extremely rich and creamy. The three kinds of fries were solid; curly, sweet potato, and regular with some chili ketchups. The boca platter was HUGE and we got the medium for 4 people. Came with steak, fried shrimp, mackerel potato salad, crostini, and an assortment of cheeses and some pepperoni. Last but not least...my favorite...the tartare. The quail egg was delicately placed atop the center of the meat and placed alongside the four little crostini on the plate. It was juicy and had so much flavor, a little spicy but not an overwhelming amount of chili spice. This meal reminded me of tapas in Madrid; definitely stop by bocas and get everything!

Coffee & Coconuts, seriously another amazing cafe that I visited during my trip in Amsterdam!…read more This cafe is hidden on the outside, but once you step inside, it is massively huge with three stories of dining tables. After waiting to be seated, our hostess guided us upstairs to the third floor, where they have several more dining tables and cozy couches that you can sit on while you enjoy your coffee. My parents, having visited this cafe before during their last trip to Amsterdam, raved about this place and suggested that I try their famous coconut coffee. All three of us ordered their coconut coffee, with my dad adding an espresso shot to his own so that he could stay awake for the rest of the night. Once I reached that first sip, OMG. SO DELICIOUS. How can I make my own coconut coffee back at home?! I loved it so much that I really want to make a copycat of it. The straws are also bendable, which really makes it handy if you need to lower your straw a bit. If I could, I would get on a plane to Amsterdam just to come back for their coconut coffee. That's how delicious it is! Local or tourist, I strongly suggest Coffee & Coconuts. You will not regret coming here at all!
