It was a huge slab of ground beef covered in gravy, the same gold gravy that cover the mashed potatoes. Adorable place. The dishes were really big - we ordered a chicken salad and pancakes with sides. The salad was surprisingly delicious. the breakfast was pretty basic, nothing out of the ordinary. Besides Arches and Canyonlands, our other favorite thing about coming to Moab is eating at the Moab Diner. My kids both got the pancakes and they are HUGE! (My 12 year old finished his, the 10 year old not so much). The steaks are great, as is the chicken-fried chicken and chicken-fried steak. Get the Sweetwater Potatoes smothered. A classic diner and not in the trendy sense but in the sense that it started out that way and has not changed. Not a hipster version of things! As far as diner's go, this one was pretty middle-of-the-road. I had one of their skillets smothered with green chile sauce which was good. It was a protein and carb packed breakfast (eaten for dinner) that hit the spot but didn't leave you wanting more. My husband had the burger, which he stated was "average" but needed the green chile sauce to be better. A solid 3/5. A bonus star, however, is earned for a few things: Great milkshakes, Good service, a cute atmosphere, and cheap food with huge portions. read more

After hiking Arches we found the diner close by and it was very crowded on Saturday night. We got a booth and was impressed how fast we received service. The omellete was great and wifey had fish and chips. Both of us cleaned our plates. Afterwards, we had hot fudge sundaes - both good sized portions. The best I've had in many years. The Chicken Fried Chicken was another big winner. Starter salad was super fresh with beautiful tomatoes, cucumber slices and crispy fresh lettuce. So, I originally gave this place four stars. The food is fine and it's pretty cheap. I got an omelette and I wanted to change out toast and jelly for biscuits and gravy. I asked if I could do that and the waitress said yes, they could change out anything for anything. "Sweet," I thought; it's rare to find a place that will do that. That's when I gave this place 4 stars. However, they ended up charging me extra for the biscuits and gravy. It was only 50 cents, really not a big deal. It's just the principle that bothered me. We went to Moab Diner for breakfast and it was fantastic. Excellent, friendly service, very clean, and great food at very good prices. I had the bacon avocado omelette and could have easily split it with my husband. It was served with my choice of toast and well-cooked hash browns ( not a fan of the barely browned kind I find at so many other breakfast places) and food was piping hot. My son and husband got a combos and thoroughly enjoyed their food. Huge portions on their plates as well. Highly recommend and we will be back. One more thing I noticed that probably doesn't make a difference to most people- the staff was very kind to each other - looked like they really enjoyed working there together. We eat breakfast here every time we go to Moab (3 trips this season). It's the type of place you're not expecting a lot of ambience, or to spend a lot of time. It's comfort food - with fun names for the various plates. Service is efficient, but they kind of "slap" the stuff (glasses, utensils, toast, plates etc) down on the table without fanfare. 4 stars for big portions at reasonable prices. BUT, the food is only 3 star. I got a standard breakfast - eggs, meat, hash browns, biscuits & gravy. The potatoes were well-cooked, but bland. The biscuits were really good, but the gravy was pretty underwhelming. My son got a kids meal that was served with a warm banana that made him gag. It must have been sitting on the plate under the warming lights. Gross. Also, the bathrooms are outside the building, and they are one-occupant. There was a carload of girls taking turns in the bathroom while I was there, so it was pretty inconvenient for the female patrons of the restaurant. read more
