Went white water rafting with Calvin and a badass crew a few weeks ago, tide was high and the overall experience was just AWESOME. Thrilling, exhilarating, amazing. Calvin was hilarious, and great at guiding us through the parts that others were afraid to take (hehe). Lunch was at a resort since the Moab AC owner has a connections with the resort owner. If I could give Moab Adventure Center a 10 out of 5 I would! We took the sunset tour on the 4th of July and Sue and Anna and they were such fun people! Anna was the driver and Sue did all the speaking. Sue educated us on everything throughout the tour. When we got out of the bus and walked she made sure to have small talk with everyone at some point. I am recovering from 2 major knee injuries and this was my first "big trip" post the injury. Sue was great about offering help down some steps and declines and allowed me to just walk whatever I could do and not worry about being with the group. Sue also asked educational questions pertaining to what she told us, which for the young children I thought was a fabulous idea. After we watched the sunset and got back on the bus, Anna sang the National Anthem, as a tribute to The 4th of July. What a fun tour! The very next morning we took the Sliprock Hummer Safari tour with Craig. Craig was great! We had a family of 6 with us with small children and he both catered to the kids and to the adults. Craig was full of awesome knowledge about not only the rocks, but about the plants as well. He told us all about several that are used in everyday medicines and even spoke about how he made yeast bread with the berries from the Juniper bush. Craig was so fun to hang out with, we would have ridden on that adventure all day! I will say that if someone has back/neck/shoulder issues, I'd be careful if the hummer tour, even with the seatbelt on and holding on to a handle, you do bounce around some. read more

The trip down the Colorado River was exceedingly slow. This resulted in much time spent idling (not rafting) to fill the 4 hour time frame. A suggestion would be to be to end the morning raft trip at the Red Cliffs Lodge (rather than just before the Rocky Rapid). This could easily be accomplished within the allotted 4 hours and allow participants to see more of the river. Also, it would seem that this minor modification would net some time savings in terms of transport to and from Moab Adventure Center. read more

The Colorado River is different than the tight drops and pools of the smaller rivers I've rafted with a guide. It's wide and full of some magnificent standing waves in some places along Westwater Canyon, the day trip I did. The registration and payment were smooth and well-oiled. Nearly all digital, so you'll need service in Moab or you can stop in. Their communication is thorough, but the Westwater Canyon day trip has 3 hours of bus riding (1.5 hours out and 1.5 hours back on a winding road...take note if you get motion sick like one of our trip members). I think the Westwater Canyon trip is great for anyone who wants to just ride. The first half is nearly flat water with no wave action. The second half has about 10-12 minutes of some Class IV waves (in July), then the guides tied the boats together and we motored back with a few minutes to swim. My guide, Nancy, knew how to handle the waves, but was having a problem with a faulty oar grip. She spent a lot of time gossiping about other guides and office personnel with one of the office staff who was riding with us on her day off. She didn't know much about the geology, history, or flora and fauna of the area. I wished I was on a different boat with the knowledgeable guide. Lunch was sandwiches and some fruit and chips, etc., but a huge amount of food waste. They brought too much food and threw away about a third of what they brought. I was astounded that a company that's been in business as long as they have can't plan better for 17 passengers. read more

We were in town to ride the Rocky Mountaineer train and noticed that they partner with Moab Adventure Center for optional tours. The offerings through RM didn't include the popular sunset tour or Arches National Park so we booked a tour of the two of us directly with the tour company. They originally told us to meet the van in front of our hotel at a certain time but then texted us that they'd pick us up later but then our group would be heading directly to the park. It's a little pricey but they do include water, snacks, plus a reusable water bottle to take home. We enjoyed the tour and our tour guide who helped hit the highlights while telling us some of the attractions were a long walk away an not worth it. The sites of Arches at sunset were just amazing. We recommend this tour and this tour company. read more

Definitely had an amazing experience with the adventure center! We did 3 activities: Arches Sunset Tour, Canyoneering, and horseback riding . Our guide for the sunset tour was very knowledgeable and gave us such an amazing history and tour of Arches NP. Canyoneering was also amazing. The guides (Nolan, Hunter, Tyler) were so much fun and just made the hike and Canyoneering such a wonderful and unforgettable experience. I would definitely go back and try other activities from this center. The guide (Kayden) for horseback riding was super cool and knew exactly what he was doing. We had the best time on our sunset Arches tour. Our tour guide Chris was super friendly and knowledgeable. I liked that we didn't have to worry about park reservations or the uncertainty of where to stop once inside the park. We did several stops within the park and had an air conditioned bus waiting for us between each one. We also didn't have to worry about driving or parking. It was well worth the money just being able to take it all in. We are younger and more adventurous and I wasn't expecting anything too crazy but we had the opportunity to climb onto some cool places, which was an added bonus for us. If you have no desire to do this you can stay on the ground with the guide. I would come back and recommend this tour to friends and family. read more

I had been working in SLC for a few weeks now and the last weekend of April 2021 my husband came for a visit. Although he has been to Moab before for mountain biking eons ago, I had never been. So I took the opportunity to book the Arches National Park Sunset Discover tour with Moab Adventure Center. I like booking tours because it leaves the guess work out of planning and if you're on a time crunch it just makes for an easier process. Our tour guide was phenomenal, Craig, I think! He and my hubby bonded over mountain bikes as he wanted to get his son into it. We were in a group of 3 couples, 2 of which were retired. So our guide had to adjust according to everyone's physical capabilities. But he was great at keeping everyone engaged. We did some small hikes, enough for out-of-shape me! LOL! I was secretly happy to see who our fellow tourists were... We started our tour just outside of the park and looked at some heiroglyphs before heading into the park. Then we made a few stops along the way, and honestly I couldn't properly recall all the stops we made, but the last set we visited (where we took our sunset photo), was just amazing!!! Honestly this visit makes me want to spend more time hiking in the park, Fiery Furnace is on my list! read more

Our tour guide Mike was INCREDIBLE. He was knowledgeable, funny, and very well versed in handling the back country terrain. We took the sunset safari tour and even though there were bouts of rain, Mike kept an eye on the sky and timed our trip perfectly. The night ride on the Colorado River out of Moab was not exactly as expected. First of all, the food was slop: shredded beef, pork and chicken plus hard biscuits, canned corn (yes...fresh from the can.) The dessert was a tablespoon of some canned apple pie filling with a tiny dollop of whipped cream. Our friends who had been before told us that they were given blankets to keep warm. It was freezing cold, had poured rain, the seats were wet, etc. I was miserable, but the ride and information and stories were great. Had the weather been better and had they provided blankets, it would have been great...with the exception of the food. Nasty, horrible. read more

We were really looking forward to the Colorado River night sky and light tour we booked. Sounded great for our kids, who love the stars and are adventurous! The dinner was BBQ, and it was fine, but self serve with minimal organization and lots of crowding. Then the boat trip started out fine. Beautiful weather, fun host speaking, who gave some nice historical background to the region with a few jokes. Then the night portion started after sunset. It started with a verse from Genesis, and the whole recorded narrative and "night show" was rigged with heavy religious undertones and told stories of mormon colonization of the area, even glorifying it. It was pretty bad. Even my oldest child asked why they didn't tell any of the stories of how the Ute Natives suffered mass violence and near genocide but instead focused on some poor colonizer's child who was shot by an Ute. We wanted to get off that boat so badly at that point, but instead we had to endure it for hours. Look we support everyone's right to practice their own religion. We also support our tribes and ancestors of those first Indigenous peoples in their goal tribal sovereignty, which requires acknowledging the problematic past of white settlers. I suppose if theocracy and colonization of tribal lands is your jam, this may be just the boat ride for you. But not for this family. Its too bad too, because there is so much potential for something meaningful and adventurous for everyone, despite religious and racial/tribal affiliation. read more

Riding in a Hummer with our guide Chad was simply the highlight of our weeklong trip to Moab. The things he made the Hummer do were crazy, but ultimately well within safety limits. There was no way we could or would do the stuff he was able to do with the Hummer. It was just amazing. And scary. All 4 of us were either screaming and/or laughing the whole time. My best friend and I went to visit the city and we went to Moab Adventure Center for an excursion. Schedule a two hour ride into the mountains with Craig and we had an amazing time. This place is a must if you are visiting the city and please look for Craig! He is very knowledgeable, entertaining, and just an overall good guide. He took us up and down the mountains, explained every stop and was even kind enough to take pictures of us as well as videos. He showed us prehistoric dinosaur footprints, explained how the terrain in mountains were created and developed, and just a very knowledgeable man. The truck we took could seat about 7-9 people I believe. Tip, if you like the sun and you are not afraid of a little adventure, sit in the back. They also pack snacks but you have to bring your own water, which also, they supply you a water bottle and water before you leave. Bring your own sunscreen. We will be returning here again! It is described as a "Dutch oven dinner". This would lead one to believe that it is an outdoor experience, kind of like a "Chuck wagon" style. But NOPE. It's a buffet back at the port. My family went on 3 adventures with the Moab Adventure Center: The morning tour at Arches National Park, the Zip Line Tour, and the Horseback Riding. Let me tell you,it's hard gauging how well these trips go when you have a teenager with angst but every adventure was a great success! :) David was our guide to the Arches National Park and he was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, obviously very familiar with the park. We loved that he would point out all the faces and shapes of rocks, giving them names and history behind them. He also is part mountain goat because he climbed up rocks like nobody's business, it was great! Adam and Crystal were our guides on the Ziplining adventure and they really sparked up that experience! My teenage daughter thought that was the best of the three, and I swear she even cracked a smile! LOL Also be prepared for some added thrills at the beginning and the end with the 2 mile desert ride on a Mule... It was like riding a rollercoaster, so much fun!! Horseback Riding was out at the Red Cliffs Ranch and all the wranglers out there were super nice and friendly. The horses were well cared for and loved, very beautiful if a little moody sometimes (the horse behind me like to bite my horse's butt, guess we were moving too slow). Moab Adventure Center / Western River provided me and my family with an amazing experience. My son has a very serious seed allergy that causes us to carry epi-pens wherever we go. Being at the bottom of Cataract Canyon and hours from help was incredibly worrisome. Before I booked, the sales team took the time to speak with me and answer all of my questions. Then the kitchen managers called me to talk things through, and also emailed me the entire menu list as well as pictures of the ingredients for products I inquired about. They also did everything they could to swap out their normal items for items to accommodate my son. That was all BEFORE we even got on the river. Once on the river, the guides checked and double-checked with me so often that both my son and I felt incredibly confident in their knowledge and level of seriousness of his allergy. I had to start there...the trip was amazing. The rapids were unbelievable, the food was delicious and super creative. The 3 guides we had (Avery, Meg and Brooke) were fun, knowledgeable, hard working and clearly good friends. They made this awesome trip even better. I am trying to rally my friends to do a charter trip next year. I highly recommend Moab Adventure Center. read more
