My wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate the anniversary of us starting to date and ended up picking MK Kitchen. We had gone by it multiple times and had yet to check it out. We booked a reservation and mentioned it being an anniversary for reasoning and they had a note at our table when we got sat down. It was a great little touch service wise that we appreciated. Which service wise our server was extremely friendly and explained specials and checked on us the right amount. Food and drink wise we started off with some cocktails to kick off our celebrating. My wife got the Blueberries & Bubbly which was blueberry infused Tito's and Prosecco with lemon and basil simple. It was a tasty drink, while I got their Strawberry-Jalapeño Margarita that was decent. It was quite strong booze wise and had a good strawberry flavor but lacked the heat I expected and had more of a pepper vegetal flavor. I would likely grab a different drink next time. We also got complimentary bread with olive oil, it was good. Then appetizer wise we wanted their Tomato & Basil Bruschetta that was fantastic! Lastly entree wise we were both wanting some pasta and settled on my wife getting Rigatoni Bolognese and me Gnocchi Mac & Cheese. The bolognese had a hearty sauce with a lot of depth of flavor thanks to beef and sausage and smoked bacon. The entree size was perfect amount for my wife. My gnocchi mac had a lot of crispy pork belly that was the second star of the dish after the well cooked gnocchi. I would say I'm not the average person portion wise so my words may not speak for many but I do wish the entree size portion for my dish was larger. Then to finish of our night we grabbed their peach and blueberry crisp for dessert. It was tasty with vanilla ice cream served beside it but both my wife and I wished it had more crumble or crisp to it. Overall though great dinner and we will keep this spot in mind for future meals. Worth checking out if you want a nice meal close to Portland but not in Portland. read more

I would love to come back and try everything on this menu! It was so hard to decide which apps and what entree to get. The dates had the right amount of blue cheese on them so that it wasn't overwhelmed in that funk flavor. And all I have to say is lobster cones are AMAZING. Buttery, lobster in one perfect bite. I could eat these all day. The duck was cooked perfectly. The Brussels were fried an delicious. They weren't oily at all and had a crisp with each bite. I rarely give out a five star review, I save those for the places I will keep coming back to over and over and have an absolute amazing meal, service and space. MK Kitchen does this every time I go. The most recent time we went, we sat at the bar and our favorite bar tender was working. She is great, quick and makes the best drinks. MK kitchen has the best dirty martini I have ever had, and I have had ALOT of dirty martinis, I am not sure what they do but they are the best. All their drinks are amazing. I have never had a bad meal. Some dishes are a little pricey but totally worth it. I think I have tried everything on their menu, even the burger is great! A snowy, crappy evening and a chance to try a new spot with dear friends led us to MK Kitchen. We started with cocktails to pair with butternut squash soup, a wedge salad and a grilled caesar - yum! For entrees duck served on lentils (duck was great, lentils not so much). a burger that was very good - just the bottom bun was a bit overdone and bolognese over rigatoni that was the star. Since I was dining alone, I came early. There was only one other table in my section. I was promptly seated, and the table had a nice bouquet of fresh flowers on it along with a candle. I like the linen that they used to wrap the cutlery. I was brought a menu. I decided to get mussels as a starter and braised short ribs over horseradish mashed potatoes along with veggies. The veggies offered were broccoli, green beans and carrots. I asked if I could substitute brussels sprouts and they said that would be fine. They brought out a couple pieces of fresh focaccia and tasty olive oil for dipping while I waited for my food. The food came out pretty quickly. I was immediately disappointed by the mussels. They were mealy and I got a few with large sand grains in them. The next dish was also disappointing. I noticed when it was brought out that it smelled like when I overcook beef brisket in a slow cooker. it also tasted like it. The flavor was just like overcooked beef brisket, and it was stringy in texture and was starting to get mealy. I almost sent it back. There were more mushroom stems than there were mushrooms, and they were overcooked. Teeny piece of shiitake mushroom and two tiny pieces of button mushroom and one tiny piece of oyster mushroom. Mashed potatoes only had a very slight taste of horseradish and tasted very much like boxed mashed potatoes. Quite unremarkable mashed potatoes. I love mashed potatoes and I left most of it on the plate. The brussels sprouts were over fried. I was only able to manage to salvage the small round parts. I took a picture of what was left that was just overcooked. Bottom line everything seem to be overcooked. Service was slow first with taking my order and later with clearing the plates. I placed my menu aside and waited for someone to take my order and instead I watched the waitresses and other staff talking amongst themselves and not noticing that I was waiting for a few minutes. I actually finally had to call the waitress over to take my order. The ambience was pretty nice. Two dishes came to $54 with tax. With tip I spent $64. read more

My steak was overcooked and looked like it had been ran through a garbage disposal. The service was subpar. We waited for 12 minutes for our check. I informed the waitress that my steak was overcooked (it was grey) and I had requested a medium rare filet. She said "I'm sorry, we have a new chef, can I get you a free side?" My steak was $39..... I want it cooked to my liking and I don't want an excuse from the waitress "we have a new chef". She didn't even offer to have the new chef prepare me a new steak. For the price point of the meal, I would say that it is sooooooooooo not worth it. Save your money and cook yourself a nice steak and a few good sides. This place and service is so overrated. We have been going to MK Kitchen for quite a while and have always enjoyed the overall experience. This past Saturday the specials were recited and we ordered the duck special. When the check came, we were surprised at the $42 price of the duck, especially when the duck on the menu was $29. It's always an awkward time to ask the waitstaff the price of each special when it could be given when the specials are described. The waitperson did not disclose the price of the "special" duck at the time of reciting the specials, or again, when the question of the difference between the two duck entrees was asked. $42 for a duck breast gets into rarified air for a restaurant that is neither fine dining nor haute cuisine. This is a good, solid, neighborhood restaurant, neither Tour d'Argent nor Twelve. This soured an otherwise nice evening. Please disclose the prices of specials so that patrons can make informed decisions. read more

The food is absolutely incredible here. We vacation here yearly and make it a point to visit MK's Kitchen each time. Their lobster cones, mussels, onion tart are just a few tasty things to start the meal. Paella is a special run periodically that is the best I've ever had. Their haddock is outstanding and my wife loves the ravioli. MK's offers plenty of options for vegetarians. The menu simply offers so many things on their menu. I truly recommend this place! Service has always been great and simply a welcoming place. MK's is a 5 star restaurant located in the small town of Gorham. Its truly rare to find such a place. The food is very good. And the service was outstanding. But this is a pricey place to eat. Two bowls of pasta and one small appetizer (four stuffed dates) was 75.00 without the tip. No wine. Just water. A 100.00 dinner all-in for two people to eat a bowl of pasta at 5 o'clock in the afternoon is high- and I dine out frequently so I have realistic expectations. I came with three others, and we started with the blue cheese baked stuffed dates. Four came in an order, and we all enjoyed them. We all ordered something different for the main course- short ribs, chicken, vegan quinoa bowl, and rigatoni bolognese. We all cleaned our plates- delicious! We were so stuffed that we couldn't squeeze in dessert, but that didn't stop us from checking out the menu, which was very appealing. The service was great, too. FOOD SPECTACULAR, service outstanding went on NYE beet salad was excellent, it had goat cheese, two of us had that as an appetizer, two had seafood chowder, they loved it2nd course, i had lobster cones, friend had crab cake. it was good. two had fig and cheese, all excellent. two of us had scallops and lemon risotto for entree. the scallops were sweet and cooked perfectly. the risotto was good with the lemon and shaved radishes, hubby had short ribs and polenta. he loved it all and doesn't like polenta and last friend had beef tenderloin. she loved it. desserts, two of us had blueberry panne cotta and two had cad creams with caramel, like a flan. everything was top notch read more

The restaurant has ample staff to ensure no visit takes longer than it should. The cheese fondue and the scallops are to die for, and I wish I could come here more often than I do. I brought my friend here to celebrate her birthday. I have ZERO complaints! Everything was great start to finish. All of the staff members were warm and friendly. Our server Julia was very attentive, and personable. We enjoyed many different dishes on your menu, they were all delicious!! It was an unexpected pleasant surprise when my friend received a hand written birthday card from MK kitchen. We both loved that. And she was also given a complimentary sorbet birthday dessert. This place is good. Never fails on getting me a meal, like many restaurants I hope. And I like the food.

We had reservations for 4:30pm and we came 10min early. The doors were locked, but the hostess instantly came to the door to let us in and out of the cold. Thought that was really nice since the opening hours were also 4:30pm. I've been to some places where they make you wait exactly on the dot to let anyone in to unlock it. The fondue was extremely stringy and could have had it as a drink it was sooooo good. My duck leg instantly fell right off the bone and cooked very well. The Brussel Sprouts were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just how I like them. I'm not a huge fan of lentil and don't really like that as a pairing for this dish. I wish the spinach was off to the side instead of buried under the lentil. Or even just spinich by itself for this dish would have been great. I wish it also had more of the blueberry sauce so I could dip the meat in it more too. The gnocchi was delicious and easily would get that again. Creme Brulee tasted good, but it wasn't hard on the top to crack it. The menu has so many great options and combos to pick from. It was hard for me to only pick 1. Hence why I got one to go home to eat another time. Inside is beautiful dark dim lighting and aesthetic. Our waitress was very personable and friendly too. OMG! What a wonderful restaurant! I've lived in Europe for 30 years and MK rates right there with the best restaurants in Italy, France, Hungary, UK!!!!! Tonight, I joined 5 friends for my 1st time at MK in Gorham, ME. We had lobster cones and duck liver pate' for starters. I followed this with an incredible seafood paella, which I would rate right with paella that I have eaten in Spain & Portugal. For dessert, I had a delicious flourless chocolate torte, served with gelato, merange, nuts & dried bananas! OMG!!!!!! Also, do yourself a BIG favor and have the BEST Rye Old Fashioned which you will EVER have! Their wine list is incredible, as well! The chef/owner & his wife, as well as all of the staff, are so professional. The wait staff was always present but very unobtrusive! Such wonderful people. I truly can not rate MK highly enough! All 5 stars because I've been here multiple times throughout the last 3 years and have had stellar food and service each time. Tonight's visit was my favorite for total overall experience. You cannot possibly go wrong with any of the following - fondue, cheese board, fries brussel sprouts, or wedge salad. I highly recommend trying the soup special of the night also. I've done this a few times and each one has been delicious. Ambiance is perfection-low lighting but I don't need my flashlight app to see the menu. The restaurant noise level somehow remains low despite a full house (love love love this). Seating is comfortable and far enough away from other diners. Well it's been a long time coming! Can't tell you how many times I have driven by and thought to myself "I really need to try that place". I cannot believe I waited this long! The food was absolutely amazing. There wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy. There were 5 of us. We started with the onion tart and fondue. Now the onion tart was not what I expected. It was way better! Delightful, delicious, decadent, mmmmm! The fondue I will admit was like all fondues I have ever had. Melted cheese, fruit, bread. Tasty but not special. I ordered a pork tenderloin special they had with bacon mac and cheese and roasted brussel sprouts and the pork was so tender it melted in your mouth. Salivating just thinking about it. Two of our family members ordered the chicken under a brick, they were a little disappointed about no actual brick, since there had been lots of jokes about preferring their bricks medium with just a little pink but they were not disappointed in the chicken! Others ordered the bolognese and short ribs. I'm going to admit I stuck my fork in everyones plate. Tried everything and I would eat it all again. In fact we went back 4 days later for dinner with another group of friends. The only con: in the dining area to the right. When it is full it is extremely difficult to hear and have a conversation. Dined twice at MK Kitchen and they are truly lovely there. Accommodating, professional and high attention to detail. My younger son wanted to join us out for a special birthday dinner for my older son, but he has serious anaphylaxis food allergies. We called beforehand and asked questions to see if his attendance was even possible and wow! They were so thoughtful, understanding and handled the situation with great care. They even thought of things that I didn't think of. He was able have a safe dinner in a NICE restaurant for the first time ever, and we are very grateful that it went off without a hitch.
