He was apparently (I wasn't there, this is hearsay) very nice and when asked how much we owed him for the service stop he said we didn't owe him anything. So, my recommendation is that you call this guy and have him service your chimney and you will know that if he's doing the work, you really need it. We did give him a bottle of soda that we'd been keeping for a special occasion, so maybe have a bottle of soda handy if your chimney turns out to be just fine.

Better Air NW's proposal was not only the least expensive by a fair margin, but also offered the highest quality machines and best warranties. Normally, I'd be pretty skeptical at that combination, but all of the positive reviews on Yelp convinced me to accept their offer. A few days later, as I write this I'm basking in the warmth of my new heater. The installation was smooth, painless, and well done. Despite some unexpected challenges in the home's design to figure out and overcome, they charged exactly their estimate; there were none of the kind of headaches or scams that one often expects dealing with contractors. All in all, great experience, these folks deserve their lofty reputation.

Better Air NW was the only one who didn't give us pricing or a plan and the only one we had a negative experience with. During our in-person consultation, Jered focused on our HOA almost the entire time. Our HOA does have requirements in this area that we don't think are enforceable anymore, and in any case, that's our issue to sort out once a proposal is in place. We reassured Jered we would handle the HOA ourselves and wanted him to treat it like any other job: propose whatever setup his experience would call for and walk us through a plan and pricing. He kept coming back to the HOA anyway, and we struggled to get him to focus on the plan instead. He even told us one of the rooms was "impossible," and when we asked why, the answer was the HOA. It really felt like we were grasping at straws here. By the end of the consultation, our time had been wasted and we still didn't have any pricing or a plan. Later, he texted us that they couldn't do the job, without giving a reason. Since we never got one, we were left to guess: to us, the constant focus on the HOA came across as an easy way to pass on a job they didn't want to take on. No other contractor had trouble coming up with a proposal and pricing. Either way, our suggestion to Better Air NW is to be upfront.

Excellent! In March we scheduled an appointment on a Saturday and they were able to come and clean the chimney within 48 hrs. It was nice that they were open on a Saturday! The tech was wonderful, showed up on time and thoroughly cleaned the chimney, even patched some cracks in the fire box and painted it black since the cement was white and it didn't look good when the rest was black! Throughout the job he was constantly and patiently explaining what he was doing and why also showing me the dirt he was vacuuming. This was the most thorough cleaning and the best customer service along with the price. We weren't charged extra for patching the cracks like the previous company did 2 years earlier. That's why we did not use that company again. MK home service has been amazing and we're so impressed with them. Even offered a discount if we were going to post a review.
