I eat at MJ's almost daily. I have always found the staff to be helpful, friendly, and efficient. The food is delicious and the menu is varied, though I always find myself gravitating toward the same items. This review used to be a good one - however, due to SEVERAL screw ups on the establishment's behalf, I'm compelled to change my review to one that's not so favorable. Their food is still good - but do NOT trust the online ordering system. I had to order last minute salads for an executive lunch - simple - 2 chicken Caesar salads, dressing on the side. They brought one salad, with 2 extra dressings. Not exactly what I ordered OR paid for. They were happy to bring over the missing salad, which barely had any chicken. I usually order a particular sandwich for myself, always adding avocado - this is something they choose to overlook consistently. Today was the last straw when in the "comments" section of my order I requested the chipotle dressing of my sandwich to be on the side and to please not forget the avocado (which costs more). Not only did I not get the avocado, but they doubled up on the chipotle on the sandwich. Several of my co-workers have received incomplete orders as well, which is why we will no longer be ordering from MJ's. read more

I've been going to MJ's for the last 4 years and can't say enough about their customer service and quality of food. Their pricing is affordable and their portion size never leaves you wanting more. I love this peanut butter protein smoothie I make at home, and when I asked if they could make it for me (even though not on the menu) they did with no problem! The staff is always cheerful and more than accommodating when it comes to tailoring orders to your liking. I love their salads, but always add or subtract ingredients, and it's never an issue. I go to Mjs often and it's hit or miss on the food. Ingredients are always fresh and the staff is awesome. My chicken salad had the worst chewy chicken yesterday and I mentioned it today to the clerk. She was so sweet and apologetic and offered tipsy for my lunch today. I thought it was such a nice gesture. Well because it was not rung through the register my salad was overlooked and not made. I had to ask About it 15 minutes later. Because he was hurried he put the 2 things I specifically asked be omitted- garbanzo beans and green onions... It's tough picking those items out of my lunch. Their "large" to go containers are now about half the size, so charging over $6 for a pile of lettuce is completely ridiculous. Also the half salads are seriously overpriced. 80 cents off for half (or less) of the food?? And no discount for taking the chicken, cheese and chips off my salad. I work in the complex across the street, and never knew about this place. Someone mentioned it in my building, I went over and now I eat there like once a week. They have decent online ordering, but you can't modify the order, or give clear directions which stinks but never had an issue so far. Their food is over priced and over processed. At MJ's you get food that is delicious tasting, simple and great. I never really liked MJ's. The food isn't that great. The latte's are just flavored syrup. The chicken for the salad seems boiled. Whenever I came out of there my clothes and hair smelled like a greasy spoon kitchen. I have only gone once (out of desperation) since they remodeled. I never see customers in there now. The prices have gone up considerably. For what they charge now and the quality of the food, you would be better off paying the same (or less) for excellent food at the other food places in the same business park. read more

I come in here everyday and Carl is there every morning with a smile on his face. This place is warm, welcoming and comfortable. The staff is always very friendly and the food is what you would expect from an above average cafe. Most days I get a coffee and breakfast and other days I get lunch. The comfort combo was great- yummy grilled cheese and tomato soup. HOWEVER... I was just in the Irvine location for lunch and could not believe the unprofessionalism of the man who seemed to be the manager. There was a woman working the register who was clearly new and not only be he verbally berate her in front of me, he then started talking negatively about her when she walked outside for a break. Every question she asked seemed to just exhaust him. I couldn't believe how unhelpful he was for a new employee just learning the ropes. After she walked out, he was talking about her loudly in front of me and a few other customers in the cafe. Then he included all of the other employees in his banter. If that woman didn't walk right out the door and quit, which she very well might have, I would be shocked. He completely humiliated her in a room full of people. Today was my first time in MJ's and I cannot get over what a horrible first impression I got. I was so uncomfortable just sitting in the restaurant listening to him, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. If I weren't so uncomfortable I would have said something right then and there to him- I'm pretty ashamed for just standing by and saying nothing. read more

When they first opened up they were AWESOME!! The food was great and the customer service was great as well. But I guess that was just to open. Now they only have a few people working there and they SUCK!! The quality of the food isn't even as good. I just got their chili which used to be EXCELLENT! today it's like soup with barely anything other than broth in it. It's so thin my cheese fell to the bottom of the cup!! My coworker and I come here every morning for coffee and sometimes breakfast. All of the employees know our order and usually have it ready to go by the time we get up to the counter (or very shortly thereafter). The breakfast food is great! The sunrise express or newport panini are my personal favorites. The coffee is cheaper than at Specialtys and the employees don't constantly try to upsell you. All in all, a great place! read more

However I will say this, if your getting a specialty coffee drink there is only one person in there that makes it right! That's Carl! Carl is the absolute best!! I work in the building and I visit MJs about 2-3 times per week. The staff, particularly Carl and Noe, are always welcoming and helpful. The food is good and the menu provides a nice variety for lunch. The drinks, particularly their blended mocha, are delicious. On the rare occasion that there is a problem, they fix it.
