Possibly the best sushi of my life! My husband and I approached 20 minutes before open because the sign was on and the owner unlocked the door to let us in! She served us herself and was very attentive. She showed genuine concern for us as we had hours before we were supposed to attend a concert and it was raining offering to let us stay. I could not have asked for a better experience! We unfortunately did not get pictures of the fantastic mochi and fried cheesecake we got after our meal as we were too excited to eat it.

Only open for dinner but was nice and spacious inside, the people working were all friendly and the food was good. Drink selection looked nice too but didn't get one. Give it a try if you're downtown and need dinner!

Very small serving of vegetable fried rice

This place is on Washington Street where there is street parking. When we entered we were not welcomed, but given a hand gesture of "two" along with a man saying "two". A little rude. We chose to sit at the bar and after about five minutes the owner a nice lady said she would be with us shortly. After that, unbeknownst to the man, he came over and abruptly asked if we were ready to order without greeting us. We said no and ordered when the lady came back. We got vegetable fried rice, spring rolls, sushi, and free edamame thanks to the Yelp app. ;) Now the food. The wait was very long. About 30 minutes.. for sushi. The edamame, spring rolls and rice came out first. The rice was skeptical upon presentation. First was the small portion that was literally just spread around the plate to make it look full. We pushed it to the side and it was half the plate. We decided to give the rice a try and that was not the best idea. It was salty, hard and had more vegetables than rice! It was more rice fried veg than veg fried rice. We let the man know and they took it off the bill. The spring rolls were just ok, they had a gooey consistency under the crust I didn't care for. They may have been frozen and not freshly made. The edamame was nice but was WAY too salty. They also had the audacity to serve it with soy sauce.. the sushi on the other hand was the best. The actual seaweed had a crispy yet chewy sweetness to it I've never had before. Though the sushi took longer than everything else to come out, it was some of the best sushi I've had. I would go back for the sushi but nothing else. Overall 3/5 experience due to not being greeted properly, the small portions and the wait. When you enter the restaurant there's a sign that 18% gratuity is added on all orders 2ppl or more. Maybe that's why we were rudely greeted... when we were paying, the lads let us know she was understaffed that day and pointed to small sign behind us that there would be a longer wait.. that sign would have been helpful on the door too but could possibly deter more potential guests. I'd say give this place a try for the sushi but I'm not so sure about everything else.

Service was amazing. Sake was great. Rolls were so good and came out so quickly that I forgot to take a photo. We will definitely be back.

Wow! What a great place for great sushi! We moved in close to here and couldn't wait to try it out! They had amazing sushi at a really fair price. I tried the Raspberry Mizu Saketini and was blown away. It's a must try here!

I want to point out that the water here is impeccable. Many restaurants have poor water. This water tastes purified. So fresh. I imagine The fountain of youth tastes just like this. Like.. I be looking for that taste in every restaurant. If the water is good, you know the food is gonna BUSSSS. Everything is good about this place. I've had the ramen everytime I've went and it's so spicy and good! Great flavor. I've had the chicken and the beef. The chicken is my favorite tho. That broth was just impeccable. I didn't like that I read that the ramen noodles were like the thin noodles you get in a .20 cent pack at the grocery and that's false. These are thicker than those. Thick enough. They're not the thicker ramen noodles I've had at other places BUT are they better? ABSOLUTELY. I get extremely full before I finish my bowl so that's all that matters. When food makes you happy and hopeful all of a sudden after eating you know it's good. This place definitely brings bliss and they have amazing prices!! I had the rainbow roll too. Delicious. Fresh. I added eel sauce. I was SO full.

Fresh sushi. Great variety of flavors in the Poke Bowl. Service was prompt and polite. Always enjoy our dinners here.

    Shumai and seaweed salad

I meant to write a review yesterday, but I got so busy and lost track of time! Anyways, I walked in after I got settled at a nearby hotel. It was happy hour so I ordered the shumai, and even though it wasn't a happy hour appetizer, the seaweed salad. Both were good. For my main course, I ordered the Tyson roll and the Cardinal roll. Both were good. I washed it all down with water and a raspberry cocktail. Yum!

When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

Appalling, especially since I wasn't offered water, a seat while I waited, nor was I greeted with a hello, a smile or thanked for coming in. Maybe the automatic gratuity is the very reason for the lack of hospitality here. The lack of hostility is the very reason I will never return. P.S. the sushi was decent. I think…read morethere may not be enough seating for its customer demand... that's a sign of a popular place. Happy hour prices + the food quality are what had my friend invite me here. Some rolls are half off and so are a few beverages, like hot sake. I had never had hot sake. I've only had any sake once. I liked it fine, but I didn't want a second order after I finished the first. I was disappointed that Robata was out of plum wine. Instead I ordered what was described as a white sangria, but it tasted more like a brandy. I had a few sips and gave it to my friend. I had 4 vegetarian sushi rolls. Only the asparagus was included with happy hour. My 3 other rolls were takuan, pickle plum and BB. As much as I like plum (keep reading), and takuan was a pleasant surprise, and the asparagus was good, the BB, which has tempura asparagus, cream cheese, and sweet soy, was my favorite item of the evening. I was happy to see umeboshi onigiri on the lengthy menu. These were of a good size, but I think it perhaps would have benefitted from a higher pickled plum to rice ratio. (The only time I've had it has been from a food truck and I don't know how representative it is of onigiri.) Each order of food took a while to come out. My friend had trouble getting the server's attention when she wanted to put in more orders. Robata is not a place for a quick happy hour bite. It's going to take a while, especially if you're ordering in multiple rounds like we did. When the kitchen got too busy, my order another roll was denied. That happened well before dinner service ended and it was disappointing. I would have waited a bit longer. But it was probably good to get cut off from sushi at some point. We were a little confused by the bills. My friend may have overpaid (not gotten happy hour price) for some of her items, and there was some question about whether mine had been billed correctly, but in the end we decided that mine was probably correct. Hers, though... we aren't sure. I think I'll return to Robata for the BB roll, plum wine, and maybe something new, but I will be sure to have plenty of time, order a bunch all at once, and check the bill.

I came with a friend for happy hour. We got the half off sushi (which included the mackerel nigiri, which is my FAVORITE (Tho, theirs isn't as good as Sushi Hanna in Alton)) and house hot sake, which was perfect for this freezing week. The heat was out? Which the waitress apologized for. They had a space heater out, so we sat right by that. I also ordered a few of the onigiri to go. They aren't the best I've had, but I'll probably be back semi-regularly to get my fix of the flavor, which is just so unique. Same for half off mackerel Maybe one day I'll even try their non-sushi offerings...

The shrimp come tail on, which is fine, but one of them had sand in it, I'm not sure from what, but they definitely were not thoroughly cleaned. The flavor was flat and yet the Pad Thai was overly saucy. I saw people saying this restaurant it is authentic, speaking highly of the food, but they must be comparing it to other Thai-American spots because I just don't see it at least from the Pad Thai. Pad Thai should ideally have subtle cooked down flavors of tamarind and fish sauce, some complex sweetness from palm sugar, and subtle dried shrimp flavor as well. But here the flavor just was bland and uninteresting. Some redeeming qualities are that they had some dried shrimp on top, which is very rare in the US even in larger cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle; the rice noodles themselves were cooked well (not over or undercooked); the bean sprouts looked fresh and clean; and the peanuts, chili powder, and lime coming separately was appreciated. I am do not believe in basing ratings on service and generally don't comment on service, but it wasn't great. Was told to sit wherever and then had to go up to place my order and it seemed like I was forgotten. Then asked for some chopsticks when my food came and the server said ok, then immediately went to the kitchen and then completely forgot and never ended up giving me any chopsticks.
