Matcha

I saw a lot of people outside this shop so decided to give it a try. Seems pretty standard in terms of matcha stores, but the difference here is you can choose the strength of matcha you want. I didn't order the ice cream, but was decently pleased with my drink and the quality of the matcha. Would come back to try out some of their ice cream.

Finally got around to trying out this spot. Inside, it's pretty small and not really ideal spend time in there. We ordered from the kiosk and didn't realize we could sample the levels before ordering. I got a 3 scoop gelato and a parfait and the total was pretty pricey for just 2 items. The matcha levels really did surprise me. The level 5 was super strong and bitter. Very grassy tasting. And even the level 3 was also really matcha forward as a warning to those who aren't used to matcha bitterness. Parfait was good and generous with the matcha soft serve. Overall a great addition to the area!

I didn't necessarily have high expectations for this place, but I was really let down. Walking into the matcha spot, it's very bright and clean. There's a kiosk that you can order at but because it's my first time, I wanted to try their gelato before buying. For one scoop and a cone, it was nearly $10. The gelato scoop was also tiny and couldn't even be seen under the cone (see photo). They didn't notify me that a cone was also an additional charge. The gelato itself was a good flavor but was very very thick--not quite like real gelato. Overall, I was disappointed and wouldn't recommend this spot for their gelato. (Maybe their drinks are better?)

Black sesame, Taro, Matcha Level 3

Really strong flavors which I loved. Had ice cream and tried some levels of matcha. It seems like the general consensus is that level 3 is a perfect subtle sweetness and level 4 is good if you like a bit more bitterness. Black sesame also is good, and taro was flavorful but a bit too sweet in comparison. Would definitely come again! Kinda pricey since it's on Newbury though.

Brand new matcha spot on Newbury Street! I came here with my girlfriend over the weekend to try it out and it was very busy. There was a line going outside and inside was super packed. It took us a while to get inside but once we did, we used the tablet to put our order in. Some people were ordering at the counter so that helped get people in and out. It took about 5 minutes to get our orders since there were several people in front of us. I got a matcha latte with strawberry and it tasted great! Though I wish it was mixed better but I guess that's something I could have done once I got the drink. I'll definitely come back to try their blended drinks and their ice cream. My only problem with this place is how busy it was. Of course that comes with being so new but I feel like they could have removed the seating area to make this more of an in and out type of place. There were just way too many people here at the time but hopefully that slows down in the next couple of months. Regardless, I highly recommend trying Mizu Matcha out! It's worth the wait!

Double Gelato (Matcha level 3 and Black Sesame)

I saw Mizu Matcha go viral on social media (specifically TikTok) so I decided to check it out before meeting a friend for dinner. It was slammed Monday afternoon so staff members were advising customers to use the self-serve kiosk ordering machine (mind you there's only one machine) and they were missing some menu options despite not having been sold out of the swirl matcha soft serve which was what I came for but settled for the double gelato scooping and honestly it was super disappointing, a little under $10 for skimpy scoops. Save your money, I'll be sticking to Kyo Matcha in Brookline.

My partner and I got a matcha chocolate latte and double gelato (hojicha and level 3 matcha) - TASTE: 4/5 - we tried the level 2 (sweeter) and level 3 (hit the spot) before committing. Didn't taste the chocolate in my drink, but the matcha was still on point, along w the hojicha ice cream PRICE: 3/5 - total came to $18, uf! SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied us for a sweet treat, but heads up that the ice cream scoops are small SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 2pm on a Sunday, and it was busy as expected. Skipped the self-service kiosk line, ordered at the register, and it was ready in 10min ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - tight space, w maybe 5 seats, and minimal decor PARKING: 4/5 - got a metered street spot on Columbus Ave and walked over

A new matcha gelateria on Newbury Street that's bustling with people. I came here with a friend on a weekday afternoon and the place was full of people eating delicious treats. We didn't have to wait long to order and we got double scoops of taro & black sesame and hojicha & matcha level 3. I'm not super into matcha, so my favorites were the hojicha and black sesame. Each scoop is carefully weighted out so you know you're getting exactly what you paid for. There's 5 levels of matcha from bitter to sweeter. My friend liked the level 3 matcha but after eating the other flavors it was more bitter than the first bite. They have soft serve and drinks as well which I will definitely have to come back to try. Overall, a nice spot to check out while shopping on Newbury Street.

Matcha hojicha soft serve, matcha gelato (level 3)

The line for Mizu Matcha went out the door, even in January when it was pretty chilly outside. Though you could order with a kiosk, we ordered with the cashier, who seemed to be pretty busy fielding questions about orders and scooping samples for people who wanted to prove that they could handle the strongest level of matcha gelato lol! We got a single scoop of the Level 3 matcha gelato, which was a great level of not-too-sweet, not-too-grassy or chalky. The gelato itself was smooth and creamy, though the scoop was pretty small for the price (but it is also Newbury Street, so expected). We also ordered a soft serve swirl of the hojicha and matcha flavors. I would stick with the gelato next time because the soft serve was not too sweet and quite creamy, but the tea flavor was just not as present as I wanted it to be.

Stopped by Mizu Matcha after walking around Newbury. They offer 5 levels of matcha gelato, and the highest level had an appealing deep green color so I had to get it. I expected it to be bitter, but it honestly wasn't. It had a rich, earthy depth and was extremely creamy with a subtle sweetness. I balanced it out with a scoop of hojicha gelato, which was definitely on the sweeter side but still had that roasted flavor. The combination was perfect, but $9 for 2 small scoops is a little steep.

I heard about how this place had matcha ice cream with different levels of intensity, so I gave it a try. They offer free samples upon request, so we tried a couple including their other flavors. The ice cream was not too sweet, and very flavorful. I liked the hojicha flavor more than any of the matcha's, so I got that one. Service was alright. No one said hi or welcomed us when we walked in. The space was bright and clean. I would give this place a 3.8/5 if I could.

I was lucky enough to visit amish Matcha twice within a week, so you know this place is good! I visited both times in the evening and the store was very busy both times, with all seats taken. They have a counter and a touchscreen to order and each order takes a couple minutes - the service is super efficient here! I tried their matcha soft serve and strawberry matcha latte, both which are absolutely delicious. I really appreciate the quality of ingredients here, as it doesn't feel like the typical sweetened matcha that you get at other coffee shops. The ice cream in particular was the perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness to me. My one gripe with this place (and frankly most other similar places in the area) is the price. You really can't find anything for under $6 here, which is a bit excessive, but everything is tasty and portions are relatively large at least.

Wow the best new matcha ice cream spot! Truly living up to the hype this place was incredible. The staff were so kind and friendly and offered to let us try all the ice cream which was so sweet. Their matcha was intense! I've been to a leveled matcha place in Japan and the strength of the flavors here was stronger. Would definitely start with trying a more mild matcha flavor and see what you like! We honestly liked every level of matcha ice cream. We didn't end up trying the ube or black sesame but they looked yummy!

Call it a tourist trap if you want, but I loved Mike's Pastry! I visited on a Friday afternoon, and…read morewas surprised it wasn't super full. There was a line, but it moved quickly - we waited about 10 minutes total. We tried several things: pistachio, limoncello, pecan caramel cannoli and the pecan caramel cheesecake. I didn't even think I liked cannoli at all based on a previous experience, but WOW - these changed my perspective. They were sweet without being overwhelming. The cheesecake was delicious as well. Heads up, as other reviews have mentioned, it's cash only. Luckily, my mom is old school and always carries cash with her. I wish I lived in Boston - I'd love to come back to try their other offerings.

I guess I lucked out because when I went (Wednesday, around 3 PM), there was virtually no line. I heard it can get super busy, so beware. This place is cash only, and the service is really straight-to-the-point. I guess they just want people in and out quickly. There's not really anywhere you can sit, so definitely just get what you want and go. The bakery itself is kept very simple and minimal. Sweets are displayed behind the glass, and there are plenty of signs along the wall that display what they have to offer. There were a lot of different goodies, but I noticed that people really only ordered the cannolis. I got a singular chocolate chip cannoli, and I think it really threw the person helping me off that I only got one to try. Pastries are packaged in a nice blue box and securely tied with a long string. The cannoli itself tasted pretty nice, but I wish there were more chocolate chips other than the ones that coated the areas of visible filling. I liked that the shell was crunchy and flaky. I can't say much because this was my first time having a cannoli, so I have no point of comparison. Not sure if I can eat a lot of it in one sitting.

My friend and I were on the hunt for a good ice cream spot that gave the "farm fresh ice cream"…read morevibe and we came across Dairy Freeze during our search. The ice cream itself was sooo good. I got my usual: soft serve twist with rainbow sprinkles in a waffle cone. The cone was so fresh and flavorful, the rainbow sprinkles also tested fresh (I love when the sprinkles have their own distinct taste. That's how you know they're fresh), and the soft serve was cold and creamy. The dream. My friend got the cookie dough hard ice cream in a waffle cone and she really liked it too. The ordering/waiting lines were wild. Idk if it was an off-night when we went, but there were at least 15 people standing around waiting for their ice cream while we were in line ordering. Then it came our time to wait and it took 12 minutes just to get these 2 cones out. The kitchen was closed by the time we were there too, so no one was waiting on food. We were all waiting on an ice cream cone. I feel for them - it was a hectic summer night and everyone wants good ice cream - but I honestly hadn't seen anything quite like this before!
