The 1 star review is to get this information posted. I was last here in July, 2023 and the place was closed (and looked like it hadn't been open for a while). Now it is the end on June, 2024 and I am back in Yakima. I saw the Yelp review had been updated three months ago with new hours. As today is Friday and they were to be open from 11:00 AM, I went by to check it out. Nope, still *CLOSED* up. But the back door was open, so I stuck my head in and hollered "Hello?". To my surprise the effervescent (if you have listened to her voice mail greeting you will know what I mean) Miz Dee hollered back! Turns out , that after 31 years, she has turned the business over to the kids. Hence the new name "All About BBQ & More (Miz. Dee's Next Generation)". She told me the kids decided to focus on catering and events rather than retail sales and that is why there isn't much going on at the sticks and bricks. She apparently does come in once in a while to cook, But it isn't often. She did tell me to call a few days before I am in town and she would cook something for me. A generous offer indeed. P.S. As somebody who has become a lover of all things food over the past five or six years, there are plenty of places that I had tried in the past but I'm now starting to rediscover. One such place is Miz Dee's BBQ. This is a place that I remember from growing up, and remember really liking the food, and recently was re-introduced to it. We had a get together at our office where Miz Dee and her crew of barbecue rock stars came and made lunch for a large group of us. It's the first time in memory that I was wowed by a place that I had been before, and didn't remember the food being as good as it was! These folks absolutely know how to do barbecue, and it's legit, not thatMustard and vinegar-based sauce that's down in North Carolina, but rather real Deep flavors barbecue that make you sit there and lick your fingers in hopes that you're able to get just a little taste of something that might've been left behind. They do ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken All of which I have had twice in the last week (We decided to have her cater another event three days later!) And all of which are absolutely brilliant. In the same way that I'm sure it was beautiful watching Michelangelo craft something out of marble, Ms. Dee's medium is hunks of delicious meat! After I took a bite of the brisket, I literally turned around and went back to get more of the meat and sauce. Not only was the meat perfectly done, but I think the sauce was the best I've ever tasted. They do predominately catering, however they are open Thursday through Saturday if they're not catering somewhere. Definitely best to check it out before you go, and if they are you should definitely be there. The service, the food and just the overall vibe of everything these folks do is top-notch! This place is a hidden gem! We were on our way from cherry picking in the area and decided to grab quick lunch at Miz Dee's BBQ. We ordered pulled pork with potato salad and coleslaw and pork ribs with baked beans. The food was amazing! Ribs were incredibly tender with meat falling off the bones (that's when you know it's good) and pulled pork had that perfect smoked taste. The portions were very generous as well. Where to begin... what an amazing experience here. The personality, love and charisma are worth the trip alone. The best bbq I've (we four) have ever had is a bonus. We called and it was closed. Miz Dee said we could come down and she would cook something up for us on a limited menu. We showed up and were welcomed as if we were long time friends. Lots of love here. Hanging with her husband Don, got him to break his guitar out. What an authentic organically driven moment we experienced. The ribs fall off bone dripping with a unique flavor and a texture that keeps your mouth craving more. Miz Dee knows her stuff with apple and cherrywood cooking. Stumbled upon Miz Dee's restaurant and I'm so glad that I did. I don't know if I've ever felt so welcomed at a restaurant in my life. She's only open on Thursday thru Saturday but we took a chance and called her on Monday for lunch on Tuesday while we were in town. She was kind enough to make us Jambalaya , collard greens , brisket and cornbread. We have never had such a wonderful meal. Would definitely give Miz Dee 5+ stars for the hospitality and yummy BBQ ribs and chicken. When we arrived on Saturday morning, it was closed for a catering service. The owner, she didn't turn us away. She asked us to leave the address and food order so that her granddaughter can deliver it next day since we live in the same town. So we waited a day and half and finally got it in the Sunday night. When the food was delivered, it was still warm. We didn't wait and try the meats once we got back home. The food is really good. There has been a few other local BBQ places in town over the years. None of them has been able to last as long as Miz Dee's. Unfortunately I'm not sure how long she's going to be there. She's been busy training the next generation of family to take it over. What is nice about this place it's actually cheaper than the corporate places and there is actually meat on the bone. Most people get it for take out. If covid wasn't around there's a few tables outside and a few inside. However the place isn't really designed for dine-in. But the smell of BBQ is overwhelming. I've tired to stop by but this place has never been open. I first heard about Miz Dee's last year. My dad told me there is some good BBQ in Yakima. I think he saw her on the tv or somewhere. I go to Yakima for work often but every time I stop by it's closed. I think she mainly does catering or cooks for events only. Lunchtime came around I thought why not call Miz Dee's. I called and she answered. She told me they were closed today she was prepping food for a party of 700 on Saturday. I kept her on the phone explained to her how I've been wanting to try her cooking for some time now. She asked me if I could come on down for a plate. I told her sure I could be there in an hour. She was so nice on the phone I couldn't say no. You could smell the smoke from the BBQ as your making your way down the block to her shop. She was happy to see me. I had never met her before but she called me by my name. She told me she had ribs, beans and potato salad or macaroni salad ready for me. I took 2 plates one hot and one regulars. I thanked for food and was on my way. The smell in the truck on the way back to work was just beautiful. You never forget that BBQ smell. It's just amazing. From the smell alone I knew that I was about to have some great BBQ. I really like the hot sauce on the ribs. The dry rub just everything went so well. Open Thu, Fri, and Sat (unless they are catering), so you have to get a little lucky and plan ahead, but it's worth it. We were in Yakima this week for a convention and we were looking for BBQ. We initially tried to go to Miz Dee's on a Wednesday only to find it closed. It's still possible to smell the smokey meats when the place is closed. On our way out of town on Friday, we tried again and had sweet success. Received a big hug from Miz. Dee when we walked in. I'm not sure I've experienced that at a restaurant before, but it was awesome. The pulled pork, pork ribs, baked beans, and mac n' cheese were great. About halfway through the meal, Miz Dee came and sat down with a bottle of sauce, and then added a bit to the side of my plate. It was a little too spicy for my taste, so she brought out some original. Then she brought out some wet hand towels. Then she brought out a taste of the peach cobbler, just because she wanted us to try it. This is easily the best barbecue in the Yakima area probably in the whole state maybe even three or four states these folks flat out make some great barbecue. You will stuff yourself even though you're full it just tastes so good you just got to keep eating. Don't miss this place it would be in the state you're really missing out on something if you do. Miz Dee is a sweetheart, that's for sure. I was flying into Yakima to take care of some business on a Saturday in January. Reviews said that she can be catering and may not be open, so call ahead. I did call ahead. Miz Dee told me that she was planning on cooking ribs and chicken on Saturday, but I should call that morning to make sure. How warm it was outside would impact her work. I called on Saturday and she told me what was on the menu, and I confirmed coming in that afternoon. When I arrived, I got a hug. I also got to hang out in the door to the kitchen while she did her work. She had me choose the chicken off the BBQ that I wanted, and from there she cut up the chicken and ribs, doused them in sauce, and wrapped everything up for me for my trip home. I also got some peach cobbler, which she had me try before packing it up. I also got to sample some of the chicken and her hot sauce. What an experience. Not only was the company good, but the food is terrific. Terrific chicken, and terrific ribs. My only regret is that she could not do brisket that day, and she had no beans nor potato salad (it sounds like she eases up in the winter and gears up as spring approaches). I was lucky enough to find Miz Dee's BBQ while in Yakima on business. It was easily the finest bbq I've had since moving to the Northwest. As a southern transplant, i know good bbq when I taste it, and Miz Dee could hold her own on any street corner in Memphis or Birmingham. I had the bbq ribs, which were so tender they almost melted in my mouth. The meat is smoked on site, and the sauce Miz Dee uses is an old family recipe. Miz Dee has not moved far from her southern culinary roots. I live nearly four hours away, but cannot wait until I have an excuse to return to Yakima. If you are in Yakima or the surrounding area,, Miz Dee's is a must try. You do need to get there early, as she seems to open around 11 and sells out quick. read more
