It's a good place if you're craving sushi nearby, and they have a pretty big menu with a mix of rolls and other Asian dishes, so there's something for everyone. The space is nice and comfortable, with both indoor seating and a patio option, which is great in the warmer months. That said, the sushi itself is good but not anything super standout or memorable. I had low expectations for a delivery order of sushi. I was thrilled to have a sushi and sashimi dinner that was incredible! It was diverse and delicious! Solid sushi spot in the suburbs! My friends and I were nearby for another event and were craving sushi so decided to give this spot a try. Interior was pretty and blue and our server was super friendly. We started with the wonton soup, served in individual bowls and it was okay. Nothing stellar but hit the spot during the cold. While often overshadowed by another Excelsior sushi spot, I'd honestly recommend Miyabi to those unsure of which to pick! Plenty of parking in a shared lot with local Lunds! Service was wonderful...as noted by the frequent visits to refill my always half empty water :) The ambiance is classy, yet casual and perfect for a date night or just a sushi night out with friends. Food is always great! I do have to say that they have the BEST crab Rangoon...so definitely munch on those before your rolls arrive! Presentation is always fun and the rolls are quality! We were looking to grab some Asian bistro in Excelsior and Miyabi popped up as a place to go. The Good: The spicy tuna roll is everything that you would expect. I would order several of these rolls. The chicken lettuce wraps do not look appealing but they have a smoky braised chicken flavor. I like the P.F. Chang's lettuce wraps a little better. The best meal was a coconut noodle soup, which I would give a five out of five unfortunately, it was not my meal. Everytime I've visited, i've always loved this place. It's super cute, love the environment, and they have indoor and outside seating. The food has always been hot, fresh, AND fast! The wait staff is always so kind and polite and very attentive when you need anything, they don't leave you hanging ever. I think it's awesome for a date night or even a girls night with it not being super tiny. Kinda shocked that whenever i've stopped in it's never too busy seeing i've never had a poor experience here. We love the food at Miyabi, and decided to order for pickup and eat at home. We had the avocado salad with ginger dressing, and the yaki udon noodle dish with chicken and veggies. The salad was so fresh and crisp, and the noodle dish was the best we've had at similar restaurants. Downtown Excelsior has a sushi war going on right now. Miyabi is located at the west end of Lake Street while just two blocks to East is Yumi. Right now, my money is on Miyabi. The interior has a nice open feel with an exposed ceiling. Plenty of booths, my personal fav, and even two giant family sized booths. My wife and I always get at least two rolls to share. We usually go with the "Lotus" and the "Cancun". This evening we mixed in the featured roll called "Fairy Tale". All are excellent. I come back to Miyabi for the kani salad (pictured). I have yet to find anything comparable elsewhere, and I highly recommend ordering it! I have also had a variety of their rolls, and recommend the cap'n crunch roll! There is a parking lot for the restaurant, so there is no added hassle of parking. I have only ever been in winter, but I am sure the location in Excelsior is an added plus in the summer! The service has always been prompt and efficient for me, but the food is what keeps me coming back. Again, I can't recommend the kani salad enough. Worst experience ever. After an amazing first visit, my husband and I decided to go back and try the ramen the very next day. He lived in Japan for many years, and the sushi was SO good the night before, we both could not wait. Over an hour and a half wait, and the ramen was no better than the dollar store cups. Literally no veggies, no tofu, no sprouts, just noodles and broth, with a few dried seaweed chips thrown in. Soooo bad. My husband is vegetarian, but I got the pork version, and the meat was so fatty and gross it was literally inedible. The best thing was the boiled egg, but everything else was beyond bad. We also had to remind our waitress of our order after 45 minutes. She totally forgot us. I was a former waitress myself, so it's very hard to post a bad review, but still,...so incredibly disappointing!!! And expensive! I can't believe I still paid the $88 dollar bill and did not complain. I really should have. Absolute worst meal I have had out in literally decades. So bad!! Even the people next to us noticed and had sympathy, as even they saw how terrible our food and service was. NEVER get the ramen here, ONLY the sushi rolls. So awful. Worst dining experience ever. We visited to celebrate a birthday during lunch hours. When we walked in we saw the specials board with a picture of Dory announcing the "Finding Dory Roll". It is kind of like naming an animal, showing you a picture and then serving it to you on a plate. We started with the Soft Shell Crab appetizer and it was okay. A very small crab. Of course, we ordered Dory and it was good. We just kept picturing Dory. The Ironman Roll was excellent but the highlight was the Yoshi Roll. The flavor was incredible. They have a nice selection of sushi rolls with unique combinations. The cost is a little higher for the location and the quality fish. There is a complimentary birthday chocolate cake too. read more

My wife and I had lunch there for our first meal together after having our third child. We ordered the lunch specials (3 sushi rolls), and the waitress informed us that we couldn't order the specials. Usually, we wouldn't care, but she could've at least told us that when she handed us the menus...at noon on a Friday. We ordered two rolls each, and they were brought out in a reasonable time. Unfortunately, the rolls were about as average as they come. I'm not exaggerating when I say the sushi rolls from Cub Foods are just as good as these. When the check came, it was less than what I was expecting. I thought they came to their senses and charged us for what lunch should cost--how naive. The waitress came back about two minutes later and said she forgot to charge us for our drinks (one beer each). She took my credit card again and ran it for the beers. I absolutely love this place. It's modern and maintains a classic clean feel. The colors and lighting creates a relaxing ambiance which almost subconsciously makes me feel relaxed. I love the design of their restrooms as well... the loud and good quality music gets me dancing in there. The food is amazing, the sushi and the sashimi is fresh and the quality is excellent. Each Sashimi slice I've ordered are chunky and generous esp compared to slender slices I've seen at other places around the Twin Cities (ie: Osaka Sushi, or the Kyoto all-you-can-eat). I appreciate how the plates come designed in such a pleasing manner visually. Food taste is important, but the presentation makes a HUGE difference. Food that's prepared more visually beautiful actually it tastes better, because care was put into it, I think you savor each bite more. I am the type to appreciate it. The staff is great... every time I come here they are friendly, they SMILE (some places don't give you smiles and that bothers me - genuine smiles ADD to my dining experience), and they are very attentive. Pricing is good, it's less expensive than Origami in Uptown MPLS... and I do love Origami too but this place is not as pricey so that makes me feel good when I come here. This is what I received when ordering through Doordash. I paid $4 extra for each meal for fried rice that came in the smallest container I've ever seen. At least half the size of what most Asian places use. It's a little bigger than a playdough container. The entree size is extremely small as well and looks like it's smaller than a standard bowl of cereal. Miyabi is one of my top 3 sushi spots in MN. Do yourself a favor and go here. They have a lot of things going for them: generous portions, fresh fish, creative & delicious recipes, friendly staff, fun location, and a beautiful interior. I love all their rolls (yes, tried them all). Pro tip: order the roll on the board! It's always changing to fit the holiday/season/occasion. It's highly innovative and just as mouthwatering. The best ones make it to "the secret menu" that feature classic favorites like the 007. They also make killer entrees and apps. My top favorites are the Szechuan Peppercorn, Coconut Curry (entree and soup), and to snack on- spicy garlic edamame. So friggin' good. Currently drooling as I write this.
