We were hoping by going with a local store we would get great service and a superior product to the big box shade companies but unfortunately, we paid top dollar and the shades were mismeasured; we received shades (that are beautiful material btw!) But were too small to cover the windows completely. They were measured for inside mount when we had specified outside mount. At first, the owner agreed to redo the order BUT wanted to charge us additional costs rather than acknowledging the mistake made and providing the correct shades we had paid for. Disappointed by the end result and the customer service we received and that we couldn't find a solution to correct this mistake in the end. read more

This the place that has now moved to the top of the list in Montclair for unusual, charming house decorations. They did start off as window blinds primarily but I have been there for tastefully crafted vases, bowls, bags, spectacle cases etc. And then their wonderful gluggy water jugs. There are a lot of places in town to buy greeting cards, but when I want something humorous I go to them. I got off to a bad start with my project, to get a motorized shade for my skylight, but in the end I was completely satisfied. The first shade was defective, and then the replacement shade was a bit too short. The third shade also had some problems, which the installer was able to fix. It is now working perfectly. This experience was of course frustrating for Pat, the owner, and her excellent installer. Mix is a fantastic shop in the heart of Oakland's Montclair district. They have interesting jewelry, fun gifts, gorgeous scarves and an outstanding selection of stylish purses. A girl needs a new purse every now and then. The window sported several stylish Issey Miyaki Bao Bao looking bags. Turns out they were inspired by the original which was great for my wallet. I purchased a metallic blue tote. I consider it a homage to the original. I also found a beautiful scarf and eye catching cocktail ring. By the way, it is technically a window covering store which I did not realize until I was almost out the door. I don not need new shades but I will be back to visit Mix. I loved it and look forward to their changing selection. Worth a detour to check it out. read more

Warning! Don't shop here! They sell faulty/defected products and refuse to refund money. I purchased a purse, that lasted one hour and then the strap broke. Owner refuses to accommodate anything other than an exchange. Why would I want another faulty item?!?! I was going to buy my window shades here, thank god I'm only out 50 bucks for the bag. I moved into the neighborhood and wanted to remove the plastic white mini blinds in my house. My friend, Sally told me how important it is to shop in Montclair and support the shops. She suggested to talk to Pat at the shade shop in Montclair village. Their salesperson was very confident and fairly patient with helping us pick out our window treatment. Also, they have a pretty wide selection. However, we placed our order around April 1st and were told it would arrive in around four weeks (at the latest). We followed up in early May and were told "Apparently the fabric was not in stock when we placed your order, but it is in production now." Although they placed a rush on the order, this led us to believe that they either initially forgot to place our order or were not clearly communicating with us about changes in the production timeline. Above and beyond. I can't say enough about the customer service at Mix. I purchased a couch (which is amazing) recently and have quite the story to tell. The process of selecting the couch and upholstery was fantastic. For no additional fee, Pat comes to your house with her swatches and helps you find the right configuration and upholstery for your space. Today was delivery day, and the delivery folks (people Mix and Pat have ZERO control of) were already an hour past their four hour delivery window. I called Pat on a panic because I had a commitment I had to leave for. Without missing a beat, she offered to rush to my house and wait for the couch to arrive. Who does that anymore?!
