Very frustrating experience with The Shade Store, and especially disappointing given I've worked with them multiple times before. It took five weeks just to schedule installation, only for them to cancel 30 minutes before the end of a 5-7 PM window because the installer was running late. No real notice and no way to quickly get in touch. No priority when rescheduling. I was pushed through the standard install process like nothing happened. I followed up four times with both my sales rep and support. Weeks later I got a response saying they'd follow up, and then nothing. What's most frustrating is there was zero effort to make this right. No accommodation, no urgency, not even a basic discount for the inconvenience. Poor communication, wasted time, and no accountability. I would not recommend. read more

It has been an ongoing terrible experience with getting shades and curtains for my brand new space. The product took five weeks to arrive. The installer botched the job, damaging my brand new walls by drilling unnecessary holes, smudging dirt on my new paint, leaving debris all over the floor, scratching the wall, and failing to remove unused materials. Additionally, none of the curtains worked as they should have, either from damaged/defective parts shipped or due to poor installation. Brandon, the project manager took a week to file "a report" and went completely silent. He provided no updates, no check-ins, and no follow-ups; he went completely silent after a site visit to confirm the damage/defective work despite saying he would be in touch. I had to chase him down. In fact, despite shelling out a lot of money for the curtains and treatments, there were no phone calls or emails updating me on the status of the damage from anyone; I had no idea if and when it would be corrected, or that the correction was even in the works. Since my designer recommended this place to me, she was vigilant about reporting this up the chain, but even that did nothing other than words of sympathy. No one reached out, no one called, no one responded to any specific issues, or provided any update on the status or timeline for the repair. If this was an online chop shop, I would say "you get what you pay for." But given how this store bills itself, how much they charge for the product, the treatment of their customers is absolutely abysmal. I envy those who had a good experience with Brandon or the Shade Store; I wish I could say the same. In addition to damaging my walls, the lack of communication, complete silence cost me thousands of dollars and countless hours of time chasing down anyone for an answer when the responsible thing would be to simply check in on your customer who was wronged and reassure them about the correction. read more

Our curtain order for one window took nearly 5 months to complete. There were 4 different attempts at install, all due to the Shade Store's poor scheduling, inability to deliver an undamaged product or manufacture tracks to specification. I had to make countless calls and emails because the Shade Store's point of sale offered minimal customer support to remedy the supply chain failure. At one point told by Lafayette store employee "you'll get better support if you call customer support yourself than if I try and call"--what? That's your job.. For such a big company, and high price point, the store itself should do more for troubleshooting. Wish I had gone custom with a local East Bay company, instead. read more

We had a great experience at the Shade Store from start to finish with Angelique. She helped us choose shades for 6 bedroom windows and we are thrilled with our choice and the quality of the shades. Yes, they are pricey, but they fit the windows perfectly, work so smoothly, are completely blackout, and feel like they will last a long, long time. I had been meaning to put shades in my upstairs bedroom and bath for years but was always intimidated by installing them on my own and making sure the measurements and the style was correct. I popped into our local store and found plenty of design ideas and helpful assistance. Working within my budget, the sales team was able to help me complete all the rooms on my list. Just had them installed today by a competent and friendly installer. He even took down my old curtains and hardware (neatly folded!) and took away all the boxes and debris. 7 large windows in under an hour. Thrilled and worth the price! From start to finish, it was a good experience with the Shade Store. I came in knowing what I wanted and spoke with Brandon (he was at the Walnut Creek location at first). He showed me the different fabric options and showed me which one he liked for the "handle" or the way it would look when mounted. He gave me an initial quote and I did not feel pressure to do anything until I was ready. Once ready, I contacted him and we transacted online mostly (which was very convenient for me). I had some questions about the new quote and called Brandon and he was available to speak and helped me with my questions. The delivery of the items came in different shipments (drapes and rings). Then the installation was scheduled online. I had email and phone reminders of when my installation will be. The installers (4 of them) came on time, were professional (pleasant, wore booties inside the house), and worked very well together to install the bar and drapes. They had good synergy. The first time around, the drapes were falling into the floor by at least 1". So they went back and reworked it so the drapes has clearance between the floor and they look great. The Shade Store is pricey but I like to think that I am supporting our local businesses and American-made products. I feel that the customers of the Shade Store would benefit if they have a colorist or a professional designer who would come out and give some recommendations on design, fabric & color. I would work with the Shade Store again for future needs. read more

I'm giving a 3 star review primarily based on customer service. I would give the shipping, delivery, and installation a 5. The product is good too though too expensive for what it is. The customer service rep was not helpful and borderline condescending. We went around and around on the quote to confirm the details of the product and her tone was rude and not at all what I would expect from someone in the service industry. I wasn't having luck with any shade specialists that I inquired with. Either they didn't seem to hear my thoughts and pushed a particular product or didn't seem to know their products well. I also tried The Shade Store in Berkeley, but didn't get timely responses to questions I had. Then I was fortunate to meet Palm, who was filling in at this store. She easily understood what I was looking for and was extremely helpful with decisions regarding the many details. She was always very responsive, and delivery/installation went according to the dates she promised. The process was very smooth. Jakari Anderson, the technician who handled the installation was very professional and paid attention to details, so much so that he made minor adjustments until he was satisfied that it was perfect. Take this review for what it's worth, more about their customer service. We were in desperate need of blinds and did everything we could to expedite the process. Preemptively went in to pick out shades even before the folks came out to measure our place. Our salesperson didn't really listen or care about our needs. It was very transactional. I had pointed out a blind feature that I said out loud that I wanted, but it was never offered or explained to me. This store was just about getting your order in and installed. At one point, I asked if we could get the blinds any earlier. Our sales rep said that we could pay for overnight shipping, which was NEVER offered to us at any point during our conversations. After that, they called to ask for my credit card number, before even guaranteeing an installation date. Perhaps a 1000 sq ft. condo is just beneath this place to do, and that sentiment was made very clear towards the customer. Content wise, our blinds are beautiful and great, installation was a breeze. Be ready to advocate for what you want and be ready to wait at least 3-4 weeks from start to finish for blinds. read more

I spent 2 years with a sheet over my window after an expensive shade broke and I couldn't get it repaired. I decided to start over with a whole new company and came across The Shade Store in Lafayette. Brandon helped me pick out the perfect color and design. That was a huge relief for me as I get overwhelmed by the decisions. A rep from the store came to my house and quickly measured and within a short period of time I had new blinds at my house installed by this really nice guy who was efficient and professional. My new blind looks great and I am super happy with the quality and the professionals from the Shade Store. It was a great and easy experience for me. read more

I needed drapes for ONE oversized slider in a newly built home. My first appointment was cancelled through email at 6AM, so I drove the 30 minutes to my 10AM appointment and called when they didn't arrive. I was RUDELY told the appointment had been cancelled and they would reschedule, but it would be a 10 days before they had another appointment available. Once the measurements were taken it took several phone calls (by me) to get the estimate. This added a couple more weeks and when I got the price it was $10K. IF all had gone smoothly from the beginning I may have gone forward, but there was NO way with all that had gone wrong that I would have felt comfortable trusting them.... BTW, to get my estimate the New York location got the Berkeley location to take over without explanation of why. I found the Lafayette staff uninterested in helping me and very incompetent. I went on to get my drapes made by Plum Design in Walnut Creek for less than half of what was quoted by The Shade Store with excellent customer service. I liked them so much that I also purchased all of my window treatments for the rest of the house without incident. So sadly disappointed by the experience with TSS. read more

I love this place. Ruben Diaz helped me out and found me the perfect shade for my kitchen. The sun blasts through the kitchen window for four months out of the year and it literally blinds me. Ruben set me up with the perfect shade, when it's open you can't even see it, it blends into the framework and when it comes down it completely cuts the sunlight out..Simply the best! read more
