I had our family room drape lining replaced. The. Lining disintegrated after having it dry cleaned because of over 10 years sun exposure. Castro Valley dry cleaner person recommended calling Victor from California drapes. They were busy during the holidays but I called again this month and they able to do the work. It took about 2 weeks to have it done. Victor even placed hooks so it was easy for me to hang it. I called other drapery stores and California drapes was the only shop to relive my curtains. My 2013 is all about doing some upgrading to the mi Casa. I need drapes BADLY! I have the same ugly drapes from when I bought the house years ago. I called and spoke to a nice lady that set up the in home appt. with Victor. He came out promptly the next day. I let him know what I needed and picked out a couple fabric options while he took the measurements. A couple of days later he sent me the quote. I must be in the wrong line of work or I have some expensive taste. The quote was well over $2K almost $3K for 1 large window and a smaller window in the living room. I responded back with my budget hoping we could work something out. He revised the quote but left off the valances. I let him know what I wanted and mentioned the sales tax amount on the quote was higher than it should be (I checked a couple different places to make sure before telling him so I didn't look like an idiot). It has been 4 business days now and no response back. I guess they don't need my business after all. read more

I bought amazing 60's remnant fabric for my 13-year-old daughters room at Saul Beressi Fabrics for about $200. I then set out to get curtains made. I called all the well-known recommended options who wanted an INSANE amount of money - not to mention a healthy dose of "I don't care if these are for your kid's room, we need to make a profit and we are very busy." As the Brits say, "Bollocks to that!" Then, my partner in crime (i.e.: girlfriend) who works in the San Francisco Design Center did some real digging and came up with California Drapes. Since I live in San Francisco, San Leandro isn't exactly around the corner. That said, when I called Maria she was super nice and quoted me a price that was very fair and told me that "her prices were nowhere near what the places in the city charge." She even agreed to stay a bit later than their closing hour on a Saturday since it was hard for me to get there during the week. I arrived, they checked out the fabric, asked a few simple questiona about the pleats and I was having lunch at Saul's Deli in Berkeley in no time. The curtains were ready much earlier than promised. They look great. Maria said they have been at it for 40 years - and I hope they are for another 40. I now know they do a lot more than just make curtains and any chance I get I will give them more business. That is why I took the time to write this review. Bonus: Blanco their dog! read more

We stopped by their new location on Catalina in early January of this year and set up an appointment. Victor came out with samples, suggestions..and measured our stairwell windows. Our stairwell windows measure just short of 11 feet high and we wanted a linen back drape and sheers. After picking the fabric I asked to see a bigger piece just to be sure so they ordered one n/c. We placed the order after seeing the larger fabric piece. We thought the price was very reasonable and the drapes are beautiful. When Victor hung them the sheers were longer than the new linen drape, and dragged on the floor. He readily took them back to the shop to re-hem and return. We will definitely use them again and feel happy with the results and their customer service. read more

We just purchased custom drapes from this business. We were told this job would take 2-3 weeks. This was definitely not the case. The mediocre product was delivered 3 months later! My wife went to the shop to meet the owner and manager; they presented her with two volumes of sample fabric, stating these would work with our windows. The owner said it would take 2 weeks, and the manager, Victor Yalliko, said 2-3 weeks. Victor came to our house and took the measurements. The initial installation was done more than a month after receiving our deposit with no communication regarding the work status until my wife called. Upon initial installation, it was very noticeable the lengths of the drapes were too short and uneven. The workmanship was poor, and measured incorrectly. He took them back to have them fixed. The duration to fix this was supposed to take a week. It was almost 3 weeks later. Victor came back to re-install the fixed drapes. Wrong! The lengths were still uneven, the pleats were not crisp. He had to return them back to the shop for another round of remediation. Two plus weeks later, we received a call the drapes were fixed. (We are now in month 3). Victor is back to install our drapes for the third time. Professional work should not take this long. Well, the installation was inferior; I had to instruct him where the drapes were hanging too high and where it was hanging too low. The drapes opened with more resistance than our previous drapes (they were longer and had double layer lining; our new ones were single layer lining). The communications were extremely poor and he was arguing with my wife that it was normal for the fabric to behave this way. Our new drapes also had an oil stain! Naturally, that meant returning a fourth time to remedy the stain. I made the mistake of paying the balance before everything was corrected. I do not recommend California Drapes for poor quality and customer service. We will never use them again. read more

I am an interior designer and I have hired California Drapes for many years to fabricate draperies, roman shades, valences, pillows, etc. for my clients' homes. I have always been very happy with them! Maria is an amazing seamstress, with so much experience, who also has an impeccable design sense. She clearly loves what she does, and she has found a few hard-working sewing assistants who are detail-oriented and very skilled as well. Victor is great at measuring and installing window coverings, and he does beautiful work as the pillow expert! They aim to please, always, and they are so polite with clients and really just delightful to work with. This review is long overdue. California Drapes did a masterful, reasonably priced job taking vintage mid-century barkcloth fabric I found on ebay and transforming it into beautiful, quality Roman shades for our guest bedroom and bathroom. Victor was very professional and creative in working out the best solution for the type and amount of fabric we had and making it work. While we had originally only envisioned the shades in our bedroom, he helped stretch the goods to work in the bathroom and even created some matching pillows. The technical aspects, including measurement and installation, were handled flawlessly. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in hiring these fine, friendly folks again! read more

My girlfriend and I were in desperate need of replacing drapes from a rental house we were moving out of. Our dog ended up tearing them down one night and we needing to replace them before an upcoming open house. I searched online for hours and wasn't able to find anything close enough to the original.
