I'm really happy with my 20 "like new" cleaned and fixed pleated shades. Some are pretty old, all were filthy and many barely usable. But not anymore! Ernie and his team came in, took them down, cleaned and re-corded them, came back and re-installed them. Now they look great and work like new. The cost was well below buying all new shades and I got to keep my color scheme which is no longer available to buy new. There was one shade which was so old that parts no longer exist to fix it. Wow, I was hoping for a miracle and Ernie and his crew performed that. We have 2 8' cellular shades that, due to the temp difference between the outdoors and indoors, had accumulated some mold at the bottom, and generally were in need of a good cleaning otherwise. I drove 30-minutes to his store because of all the good reviews. We got our shades back looking almost brand new! No more mold. And very very clean. And their prices are incredibly competitive! I wish his system could clean automatic cellular shades as we have two other similarly long shades that need a good cleaning (no mold, just really dusty). Bubble Magic was reasonably priced for our needs. Consulted with Ernie about cleaning and repairing my old Duette Honeycomb Shades. He assured me that cleaning the old shades would be worth trying, since replacing them is a whole lot more expensive. He even supplied me with some missing brackets for free, and did not charge me for cleaning a shade that was beyond repair. I have several fabric shades and they all match. To change one would mean changing them all. One blind is used every day... up and down... sometimes more than once a day. Bubble Magic re-strung this one blind because the strings had started to fray and come apart. I chose not to have them ultrasonically cleaned and there was no pressure from the owner to do so. The strings were expertly changed (Four strings) and the shade was returned to me within a couple of days - right on time and at a reasonable price. This place was the only reasonable cleaning/repair place I could find near Oakland. They only charge $13 to clean your blinds, and once finished your blinds are like new. I was quite impressed. If you need repairs, it's only $15 per string for restringing, or $15 for the small broken mechanisms inside. It's a mom and pop place, not fancy, but gets things done to standard. I'll be going here from now on instead of Costco and those overrated blind stores which are all fluff and no substance. I noticed they sell window treatments, too, but haven't tried those. One drawback is they're not open on weekends, but the owner is pretty good about returning calls. read more

Called several times and each time, Ernie tells me to call him when he's in the office; he's out and about. When I call at the designated time, he tells me the same. But, I persist and he agrees to come take a look at my non-functioning blinds to assess repairability. Date/time set. He calls the next day and asks me to remind him the date/time. Wish I'd done this ages ago! We were delighted with the results, the service,and the reasonable cost! It was proving impossible to really clean our minibliinds, especially the areas adjacent to the vertical cords, even with a specialized little microfiber-covered cleaning gadget from the hardware store. I finally called Alameda Shade Shop, where we'd bought them, and they recommended Bubble Magic. Ernie came out in the morning, took them all down, carefully numbering them, and took them back to his shop. As agreed, he returned around 4 p.m. with blinds so clean they looked brand-new! I'm torn! On one hand, the cleaned my Hunter Douglas Duette Shades beautifully for a very reasonable price. So I'm pleased. On the other hand, they quoted me one price on the phone, then tried to charge me more when I dropped off my blinds. I called the phone number again (because the phone-guy seemed to be off-site) and he confirmed the lower price. But then when I picked up my blinds, they tried to charge the higher price again. I called the phone-guy again and got the lower price once more. Kind of a hassle! But the blinds, they are very clean, and who else was going to make that happen? Four stars! Incomparable Ernie! He's sweet, funny,loves to joke...but wow, does he get the work done as promised! My pleated fabric shades had not been cleaned in over twenty--yup, embarrassing but true!--years. OH!!The dust, the grime, the dog odor, the incense smoke aroma, etc etc. Ernie and his colleague Nestor came up to the house, collected all eight sets of shades, and returned them sparkling clean (so they were white?? not grey??!!) and fresh-smelling!!! The prices?? Well, I'd previously contacted a fellow whose charge is $4.25 per square foot to clean the shades in your home. I have apartments that i manage and had five blinds that are about 15 years old. They were dirty and one of the ladders, the part that keeps the horizontal slats apart was broken.
