The owner is a genuine. Good old fashion style of business with all the modern/updated window treatments, like the days when people were honest and had good pricing. No pressure. I love my motor shades, serious luxury for windows out of reach. Why didn't I do it sooner is the only thing I keep asking!! read more

Had a remodel done and all the wooden blinds wands were broken . Couldn't find anyone that could do the repair or was referred to the manufacturer. Found City Shading from Yelp and its owner Kevin was able to quote me a fair price to repair those wands if I could drop off at his shop. He completed the repair in a timely manner and it looked great ! There aren't any blind businesses that would even consider my repair, but Kevin did ! Thank you Kevin ! read more

Kevin and Bobby at City Shading were absolutely wonderful to work with! From start to finish, they were kind, professional, and truly attentive to my specific needs. The blinds look beautiful. The delivery and installation was seamless and right on schedule. It's rare to find this level of care and craftsmanship these days--highly recommend! read more

Efficient and effective. Fixed a lingering issue with our blinds. A pleasure to work with.

Started great, but then they stopped responding to me. I hope they are OK. I sent a few messages and didn't hear back, so I assumed they didn't want the project and went with another vendor. read more

City Shading and Kevin are amazing. He installed multiple shades (light filtering and room darkening) on different types of windows. Kevin is so knowledgeable and reliable, offering wise advice on shade types and installation. He's focused on quality, he's efficient and cost competitive, but also very personable. We wholeheartedly recommend City Shading and Kevin. read more

Kevin, the owner of City Shading, was at my home to help with our wonky roller shades within 24 hours of my speaking with him! (It was my first time working with him, so my situation may be an anomaly, but it was certainly very impressive!) Kevin was quick and professional, fixed our one wonky shade and helped the 2 matching shades sit and roll better as well. He also gave helpful advice on what we might consider as window treatments for our tiny casement windows. Kevin is the exact opposite of a hard sell, but I have every confidence that he'd provide a beautiful window treatment should we opt to have them made. read more

Kevin is polite and reliable. But I wound up paying only for him to take down and then return my roman shades, because his workroom gave me a price bid that was 3x what I expected to pay (based on previous similar repairs) for the restringing of the shades. I am now paying my previous contractor what I expected, $1K instead of $3K, for the work. I would like to think that this is an anomaly, not a typical overpricing, as City Shading seems like a nice company. read more

Quick response and our issue with the motorized shades was fixed in the one visit. He was running a little late and communicated that with me. I would definitely go back for any issues with our shades or to install new ones. Thank you Kevin! read more

Kevin is very knowledgebale and reliable. If he's running late due to typical Bay Area traffic, he'll let you know. I've used him several times. read more

Wow, Kevin is fantastic! He came out to fix our very stubborn exterior shades. He was referred to us by Somfy and reached out to me right away. Even texted me with ETA on his arrival and fixes our motorized shades within 30 min. Fast, efficient, amazing customer service! The most surprising thing was somfy told us we might need to be prepared to replace everything Kevin told us that he could fix it and it wouldn't be necessary. Honest and humble man, thanks so much Kevin! You are the BEST!!! read more

Kevin is highly professional and loves what he is doing. My skylight shade was completely worn out after 30+ yrs. I called a few places and no one wiling to do the job once they learned the skylight window is really high, Kevin came and recommended me the best option to install a new marla roller shades without huge cost. It's hard to get the material, but he got it and installed it by himself perfectly. I highly recommend him to anyone!I read more

City Shading gave us a perfect experience! We have a few SW facing windows that are too sunny in the afternoon, and were looking for light-filtering shades. Kevin and Bobby are service oriented. They are a locally owned business. When my bottom up shade gave out, they were able to repair it, rather than try to get me to buy a new one. I put the shade back up and when it wasn't quite right, they actually came to my home to fix it. I highly recommend them for their knowledge and expertise, as well as their service. read more

Amazing experience with Kevin. I called him about my broken shades. He explained the shades' inner workings and why they're difficult to fix without the propriety tools that exist at the factory. He then called the company himself and relayed back to me their advice. All free of charge! So appreciative of his generosity - would go to him for any future window covering needs in a heartbeat. read more

I can only echo what most people here have said, namely, that Kevin is fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and obliging. He installed blinds in 3 rooms and we could not be happier with them. Another shade company installed a roller shade that covers our washer/dryer when not in use. The chain that pulls the blind up and down broke and we called Kevin. Even though he hadn't installed it, he didn't hesitate and came over and fixed it. read more

Kevin has been a great experience in applying his expertise to my Hunter Douglas blinds. What started with a simple straightening of some continuous loop blinds quickly turned into a replacement and renewal of both sets of blinds in my house. (I did have a third party fronting the bill, however.) Aside from my unique situation, however Kevin is: Extremely timely Very knowledgeable Offers follow up service on his work (at least he did for me, several times over) And has a great attitude all at the same time! read more

Kevin installed my automatic blind in 2016, came back to fix it in 2017 (we used it less than 3 times in that whole time), then the blind is stuck again in 2018 after less than 5 usages. Today I text him, willing to pay him to fix something that repeatedly broken from his work, he said he had to charge me travel and gave me the new rate/hour, which I didn't argue too much. Then I checked how much he charged me a year ago, realized that he simply doubled his rate and wanted to charge all the travel time as well! Checked his invoice, it did not say anything about a warranty. Is that how Kevin gets repeated business? Be aware! read more

I had a faulty pull string curtain which I was unable to figure out what the problem was. A quick search for shade companies lucky recommended Oakland Shading Company. The repair didn't take long, but long enough for me to see that Kevin really knows his business and has a high standard of professionalism. Kevin installed a beautiful electrically-powered shade in our new condo, and just walked me through how to recharge the share motor. In the initial consult over shade selection, he was meticulous yet efficient in showing us the available options -- no sell job, just great info expertly described. Once the shade came in to his shop, he quickly fit us into his busy schedule, completed the job efficiently, gave us pointers, and also helped (no charge) with other shades that were already here. Pricing was reasonable and follow up was immediate and, again, effective. When the motor battery ran down (just now), he was immediately available to help by phone and video, with successful results in 5 minutes. Thank you Kevin! We're so glad we selected you to do this work. And thanks to our great real estate agent (Janette Licata) for the referral! read more

While Kevin is certainly friendly, there were a few red flags that buyers should be aware of. We requested an estimate for cellular shades for our new ADU, and he brought a book of samples from Hunter-Douglas for us to browse through. He mentioned that he hadn't purchased anything from them for at least 10 years - he thought they were too expensive - and usually ordered from Graber (can't figure out why he didn't bring the Graber samples with him). On one set of windows there are some angles that would have been difficult to work with - Kevin said that the shades couldn't be installed unless the trim was popped out, and a bigger piece was installed. I said I would check with the contractor. He called later to let me know that the Hunter-Douglas shades would be $10,000-$11,000 (I declined), so he said he would stop by again with the Graber samples. We chose the fabric we liked, and 2 days later, he gave an estimate of $6500. I found out that it would be too expensive to replace the trim, and asked if it was possible to install the shades another way...he never got back to me. Contacted VIU Window and Home, and the owner orders exclusively from Hunter-Douglas. Immediately after taking the exact measurements that Kevin did, Gladys gave me an estimate of $5100. She also said that they would be able to install shades on the window with the tricky angles. If you get an estimate from City Shading, be sure to get a second one. read more

We had a great experience with Kevin. One of our sunshade roller broke and we wanted to repair rather than replace it, to match the other shades that we had. It was an old roller so Kevin had to source the broken part. He kept in close contact with us to keep us apprised of the status. When he found the part, he came over to make sure that it was properly installed. Very pleasant and professional in his demeanor. I would highly recommend him for your sunshade needs. read more

Kevin was punctual, reliable, and had great advice. He was a pleasure to work with! Part of what attracted us to our first home was all the natural light, but that meant MANY windows to provide coverings for.
