Overall experience with this business is five stars. My first interaction over the phone with the owner Ed was very professional and efficient. At the time we received a quote from two other local providers that frankly were a few dollars cheaper. After I visited his business and he took the time to demonstrate the features of the Hunter Douglas brand, we actually ended up spending more than I was anticipating. It was worth it though! Power blinds using a remote control or your phone is the way to go. The quality of Hunter Douglas of course needs no mention as we already have that brand in our home. It ordered the product and said our expectation for The amount of time necessary to build those custom shades for our home. Product installation was very efficient as well. Its been a few weeks since I've had my 1st custom shade installed and all I can do is rave about it. Ed was sensitive to my lighting needs and recommended a dual filter/dark shade up/down thingy that's just awesome! You see, I have a flat screen tv that is mounted on the opposite side of a window and during certain times of the day, the sun reflects on the tv, making it a less than optimal setting, but it was the best place for the tv - no choice. Ed showed me a shade that has both a soft light filter and when I need, I can pull the blackout/decorative side down creating a theatre like setting - AWESOME! Not only that, but I have a railing along the sides that don't allow the light to "leak" and keeps it in line with the window. The installer was on time, courteous, and knew what he was doing. He was clean, and left nothing for me to take care of - fabulous. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the price - but you DO get excellent service and the quality of the shade is top notch. That was my only dual shade needed, so I know I'll be able to get the others at a better price. SO...wait a minute, I WILL give them 5 stars :-) read more

Ordered shades in May, installed in August. You can build a house in that time. Charged my CC before finishing installation. Installer left dirt and chipped paint on the ground from the window frame of the installation. Really unprofessional, even contractors clean up their dirt. Took 3 weeks to get a simple bracket that somehow was missing from the order. Never called back when they said they would. read more

Marsh Interiors is seriously rocking my world. I was a little bent at first that they wouldn't come out to do an in-home estimate before having me come in and take a look around their showroom, but they could not have been more right about their suggestion. From the moment I walked in, Doreen took it in stride that although I knew I wanted a clean-looking cellular shade system, this was really my first time researching my window treatment options. She immediately sat me down and started asking me questions in order to assess my needs. I don't know a cordlock lift system from a literise from an easyrise from a power-rise...and it was great to have Doreen there to go over these options with me and give me her professional suggestions, like how a literise (cordless) lift system would make more sense in the nursery, because it would be safer, easier to manage while baby-wrangling, and Baby X will be able to control his own window shade when he's a bit older. Doreen also discussed the possibility of energy credit rebates when purchasing from the upgraded tier of Duette shades that I liked for the nursery, as well as the fact that Hunter Douglas would be offering a $25 customer credit for Duette orders placed after February 1st. She inquired about what colors we'd decided on for Baby X's room, and volunteered to provide us with swatches of the shade itself to help with color-matching, if we were going to paint before the window treatments arrived. She spoke with me at length to make sure I was comfortable with the process, made me feel like my business was valued, and provided me with a detailed printed estimate, as well as e-mailing me copies with her notes added for reference and clarification. An additional pleasant surprise was the fact that the estimate from Marsh Interiors was far less expensive than the other vendors I had researched, although I would have paid a bit extra for the kind of service I received. Unfortunately, they suffered a bit of water damage last week due to a sprinkler flood in one of the apartments located over their showroom, but Doreen promptly returned my calls from out of the office about setting up a time for her to come in and take final measurements, confirm design choices and color palates, AND gave me...wait for it...her home number and her personal cell phone number, in case I needed to reach her before my appointment. I have full confidence that the ordering and installation process will be just as easy as making our initial choices. All I can say is, "wow"! And not in a good way. Marsh Interiors provided the most unprofessional, unreliable, sluggish quote I've ever received from a professional company. Literally. I wish I could blame it on one bad employee, but unfortunately I dealt with the owner himself, Ed. His response time was incredibly bad. I finally got them out here for a site measure, it took over a week to provide. Once I got the quote, it was not one consolidated quote, but several confused overlapping prices that I could not add together to create one final quote. When I asked the owner to consolidate the quotes, he called me and said he'd have to pass on the project. Huh? This is after waiting over a week for a quote which all other companies provide in one or two days at the latest. Companies who really want your business tend to provide them at the time of the measure. It appeared very clear that Ed was not interested in my business for whatever reason. I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment on Lake Merritt however, I wanted to outfit the entire space in drapes and blinds, which would have been several thousand dollars to Marsh Interiors, nothing to scoff at. Not to mention all the business and I would have provided via my clientele should I have had a good experience. I am an interior designer with a thriving business and have never had such a poor experience, and I deal with contractors in a positive way every day. I love working with contractors! I'm still not sure what his problem was as he was not transparent about, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth I didn't bother to ask. Ed did not know what fabrics I was referring to when I referenced very popular textiles. I was fine with that the moment since I know what I want, but it would not be good for anyone that needs guidance. The whole experience is extremely outdated, from design to customer service. Especially not being friendly to your clientele, and not being transparent about how you work. I personally have crafted my business around honesty, integrity, and transparency, which is why I develop great relationships and why my clients keep coming back. If I were to give advice to any company, it would be to respect your clientele. You will not get that experience and Marsh Interiors. You will also not get up to date knowledge nor a respectful experience. Don't need my business, Ed? I guess I'll take it elsewhere. I actually have great drape and blinds people in San Francisco, but I wanted to work with someone locally; guess I'm headed back to the city. Sad face. read more

Hello fellow yelpers. Sorry to write another one-star review but i'm just giving an account of my experience here. Excellent service and craftsmanship is the exception nowadays. Bought window shutters for my 1928 house. Good: price is 300$ cheaper than a place in Walnut Creek. Good: supporting local businesses, in Emeryville. ----------- Bad: Installation was haphazard. Crooked to the window frame by a few inches in all four corners. Their excuse was that the frames were out of whack in old homes. Walnut Creek install windows on same wall and it was perfectly aligned. Bad: Called up the owner and they offered refund. I asked not to jump to conclusions and please have installer come back and realign it. Bad: Installer comes back, enters my house and brings a bad attitude and ill spirits into my house. He refused to look at the Walnut Creek installation to help him align the frames. So he overshot and installed shutters too high. Bad: He basically came back with a frown and my windows are still misaligned. I gave up and decided to live with it. Who knows, maybe in another 100 years, my frames will naturally align with his shutters installation. Buy at your own risk. read more

When I bought my shades for my house, I sources them from 2 separate places: Marsh interiors and Home Depot. Having heard that Home Depot sells the same brand of shades, I was lured by their big-box prices. My two experiences could not have been more different. The customer service was phenomenal at Marsh interiors. They were patient, helpful, friendly, and flexible. They have a decent showroom where you can operate and feel the products they offer. When we finally chose the material, I compared them with Costco dealers and Marsh came in LOWER. The installers had them up and when I had an issue, they came back and made sure we were satisfied. I constantly compare the quality of the Marsh shades to the Home Depot shades and even though they are from the same brand, they definitely NOT the same quality. The Marsh shades feel like quality fabric. The HD shades feel like laminated paper. I've had my shades for over a year now. The Marsh shades are still operating evenly and look brand new. The Home Depot ones are never able to roll up straight and I'm noticing fraying on the edges already. (Side note: After complaining about the shades, Home Depot sent out the installers 3 times trying to make them roll up straight. Eventually, they just said "It's the shades. They're cheaper for a reason." ) Lessen learned. I'll go straight to Marsh the next time. read more

Ed Marsh and his installer Bud did an AWESOME, awesome job. Ed stopped by with samples right after we purchased our house. This house was in a state of disarray, but Ed was great. He made excellent recommendations for what kinds of window treatments would look best and what color would work best for our rooms. We discussed, I made a decision, Ed took measurements of all of the windows that needed blinds and shades (which was pretty much all of them), and I got a written quote the following day. I got a call from Bud the installer about 2 weeks after I placed the order informing me that my blinds were in. He came by on time and did a fantastic job installing all of the blinds. Some of the rooms were trickier than others, but Bud did a great job. Bud noticed that we were missing valance returns on one of the blinds and said I should get in touch with Ed. I emailed him and he said he would take care of it, no problem. He re-ordered the valance with the returns, came by himself after the parts came in, and installed it in about a minute flat. They owners and the staff are very nice, but the just did not get my needs. I had to comply with some specific HOA CC&R requirements, but they kept suggesting and quoting me on items that did not match my CC&R requirements. Because of this I chose another company. They have a very big selection at the store, the staff is super friendly and the owner, Ed Marsh has a very calm and friendly demeanor. I had taken measurements and pictures of the area with me so they were able to recommend options that would work for the area. They helped me navigate the process of a wide selection to a few contenders and helped me make my decision. They gave me quotes for the different options on the spot as I had the measurements. I called back to confirm and place the order over the phone. A few weeks later the installer called to schedule time to install the coverings. My experience with this business was great. I needed repairs on my Hunter Shutters and was referred to Marsh Interiors when my previous salesperson retired. Although I didn't purchase the shutters from Marsh Interiors, they were especially nice in researching the models and the parts I needed. I was a little worried that such a small job would mean a long time before the repairs would be done. we found marsh interiors through yelp (of course) -- we were looking for someone to help make custom curtains for our formal living room. we had the fabric and since we're not crafty seamstresses, we needed the experts to help since one of our windows is 12 ft tall and has an arch! i really appreciated the fact that they didn't try to upsell and provided very reasonable pricing. i'm sure our job was a very small one but they were always flexible, detailed oriented and very professional. each time ed and his team showed up -- they were courteous and thorough. in fact, when they came to install the finished product, they did a few things to make sure everything was just perfect: 1) they properly re-installed the curtain hooks 2) at install, we realized that the side window panels needed more fabric. once i ordered the extra fabric from piedmont fabric (oakland), there turnaround time to produce two sets of perfect panels within the same day. i will be calling them for any future window covering projects -- we still have a few windows to do ;) read more

I had a bear visit my mountain home and he was not kind on my Hunter Douglas blind covering the slider door he came in through. The local dealer really gave me the push off that he could not take the time to help me. I guess too many other bear attacks on blinds up there or there was a mad rush on window blinds in that rural wonderland. we're in need for skylight shades in our bedroom. i searched the hunter douglas website and found this place. so today husband and i ventured out in our search. when we got there, bob, was assisting some other guests so we had to wait for a while until our turn. we walked around and looked at the different shades and curtains and other home textiles they had on their sales floor. when bob was done with his customers he asked us what he could help us with. so we told him we needed to get some shades for our skylights.... he was very helpful, friendly, and informative of all our options and you could tell that he's been in the business for years. when we went to other places, they made it seem like we were very limited on our choices, but according to bob, it seemed like the sky was the limit. he walked back and forth showing us examples of all sorts of things and was even able to give us quotes from their computers right away since we had the measurements. the other places we had been to and hearing from our neighbors, had not been able to give immediate quotes on pricing. and talking about pricing, it was considerably lower than the quote we had gotten from draperies by susan. bob offered us samples to take home and see what we liked, but we pretty much made up our mind on what we wanted on the spot based on all the information. he only asked us to go home and measure the skylight again just to make sure. he even offered to come over after shop closed and measure for us - at no cost. we also need some window coverings for a very oversized window here in our home office. and just like with the skylight, bob had all sorts of information and options for us. he's really knowledgeable in all types of window coverings and the companies that manufacture these things. from being in the business for so long, they had even found their own solutions in dealing with certain design obsticles when it came to oddly built window constructions etc... we were really happy with everything and must have spent at least an hour there... so finally we're getting some window treatments!! and even the time all this will take was way shorter than the other places so we're pretty excited we're probably going to have all this completed before my parents and brother visits us for the upcoming winter holidays :) read more

Needed to replace my old drapes in my livingroom and bedroom. Met with Chase , their designer, who showed me the various Hunter Douglas products to meet my needs. Chase provided me reasonable estimates for each product. I chose Hunter Douglas sliding window panels for both rooms. Chase then met me at my home to accurately measure my windows and provided me color samples to match my decor. After I ordered the product, Chase notified me when the product was ready to be installed. Bud their installer then showed up to install the panels and noticed that the factory did not provide the correct sequence of panel colors and did not provide the correct hardware for the valances. Bud was able to correct color sequence and did an excellent job in installing the panels. Overall the panels were very chic and a perfect compliment to the decor of my home. Despite issues with the factory order, Marsh Interiors made the entire process seamless. Highly recommend! read more

Price was very competitive beating most of the other estimates I received. One of the shades we chose did not provide enough privacy. We recently did a complete remodel of our home, and dealt with so many challenging contractors, vendors and suppliers that it was such a surprise and delight to find Marsh Interiors. Ed Marsh, who is very warm and friendly, provided great design guidance and expertise. We're very finicky and always shoot for perfection, so it was great working with someone who understood what we needed, had great patience, gave good advice and made sure we were completely satisfied. At one point, we had shades installed in our dining room, and after they were installed, Ed said "not sure the color is right." He was right, and at no additional cost to us, but much more work for Ed and team, we replaced them because he just didn't think we would be happy. When Ed was gone, Chase was there to help us, which showed great team work and a focus on making sure we were taken care of. We couldn't be happier with the service, the focus on customer satisfaction and the final coutcome.
